Shed Type, Roof Size
We’ve reviewed lots of garages, and the ones made by Arrow of the United States always deliver on quality and price. This one didn’t disappoint and whilst it is the smallest garage in their range, there’s still more than enough room to fit a family saloon car. We found this visually striking at first sight, with its white vinyl cladding and dark detailing, so you won’t need to worry about having a building that looks metallic on your property.
At the top of the garage sits an apex roof, and as well as carrying rainwater harmlessly away before it can pond on the surface it also adds a lot of height. The ridge height is 2.62m and the eaves height is 1.85m, so there’s enough space to move around in when you get out of the car. When finding a place to situate the garage, keep in mind the overall width of 3.71m and the overall depth of 2.97m.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
We were very impressed by the cladding used on this building because it has two distinct layers; first comes the tough steel itself, and then on top of that comes the weatherproof vinyl coating. The finished results is therefore resistant to rain and won’t rot, rust, or warp. We also liked the heavy duty frame upon which it sits, as it creates a very strong and stable building. There is no floor, of course, so you’ll need a level area of concrete to fix the garage onto. This is where we were a little disappointed with Arrow, as there is no base kit provided meaning that it’s down to the customer to source the screws that will be needed for this job.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
Vinyl and steel is not only a winning combination when it comes to strength and durability, as it also means that there are no treatment requirements to be carried out by the customer. We were also pleased to see that a 15 year warranty is provided against perforations, but although this will bring peace of mind to the customer we feel that it could have been even longer given the high quality cladding and the rain repelling nature of the apex roof.
Doors and Windows
We were pleased to find the main door so generously proportioned, as it removes any worries about catching the sides when driving in. The width is 2.41m, or nearly eight foot, and it operates on an up and over roll up basis that is associated with garage doors. That means it both looks and feels sturdy. Once out of the car, the driver can use the personnel door which is at the rear and which can be placed on either the left or right side. There are no windows, which is standard for a garage, but if you want to use this building as a workshop then you will have to add an artificial source of light.
The lack of windows can itself act as an aid to security, but a building that houses a car is going to need more than that. That’s why we were disappointed to see that whilst both the main door and side door are lockable, no padlock is included. They needn’t be expensive to buy, but we feel that including them with the garage would have added value and been more customer friendly.
With car thefts and garage break ins at a high level, the acquisition of a high quality padlock, as mentioned above, is a must with this shed. We would also recommend adding to even that level of security by using a visible intruder alarm as well because the more visible a security system is the more effective a deterrent it becomes. Unfortunately neither a lock or alarm can be bought directly with the garage so they will have to be sourced elsewhere. The same is true of an anchor kit, which once again we feel should have been included as a standard item.
We found high quality components used throughout this garage, as the attractive vinyl coating on top of the tough steel cladding shows.
Longevity of Materials 9.5/10
The garage itself should be strong and durable, and we feel it should last longer than its 15 year warranty without any problems.
Whilst we have reviewed much larger garages this is still adequately sized for a single car, and the wide doors make driving in and out easy.
Ease of Installation 8.5/10
You’ll need at least two people to assemble this garage, but the more hands the better. Allow at least eight hours for the task.
For a well sized, durable, and attractive garage, we feel this represents very good value for money.
Final Thoughts: If you think that adding a high quality garage to your property will cost several thousand pounds, then think again. This metal building is ideal for one standard sized car, and it’s very tough and durable too. We liked the white colour scheme, and feel it will make an attractive addition to any garden environment, and one other feature that we especially liked is the side personnel door. It means that it’s easy to get in and out, even while a car is parked inside. This also means, of course, that a good security system will need to be added and whilst it’s a pity that it wasn’t included as standard it doesn’t have to be an expensive purchase to be effective.
