Shed Type And Roof Size
The 13′ 8″ x 6′ 6″ Honeysuckle Playhouse with Tower & Slide is a dream playhouse for a child of any age. As this is a tower style playhouse, before the kids even get inside they can have a little run rolling around underneath or pretending they are in some kind of cave. Inside the playhouse there is a very generous amount of room. There is 5 feet seven inches of width and the depth is 3 feet 7 inches. This may not sound like a lot of space to an adult, but to a kid this is a whole lot of room. We feel that the headroom is ideal as even at its low point it is close to 4 feet high, so even as the kids grow they will be able to play inside here.
We already talked about how the kids can play under the playhouse, but there is more to this than just that. In case you were wondering where the 13′ 8″ and the 6′ 6″ comes from in the name of this playhouse, well let us tell you. The reason this is so large is because of all the extras it has. To start with we have a child safe ladder that has good sized rungs to make climbing easy. Once they scale the ladder they will be on the decking area that has a lovely railing to stop them not just falling off, but also pretending to be Superman by jumping off. Then we have the main event of this playhouse and that is the awesome slide. This is a wavy slide and it is fairly big so the kids are going to love going down this.
Solid sheet boards are what make up the apex room and these are covered with sand felt. We are very pleased with this roof as it is strong and the apex design always makes rain run off instead of sitting on top. One other thing we love about this roof is how it has a veranda that sticks out over the decking.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
When we get the chance to review a Waltons playhouse there is one thing for sure we know, most of the time it will have smooth and fantastic looking tongue and groove shiplap cladding. This cladding is very well made and you will have no worries at all about the rain finding a way inside. With the cladding being 12 mm thick, you will also find that it is very robust and can take a bit of abuse from the kids.
One thing we recommend you do when you have built this is give it a little shove and we are sure you will be very impressed with how sturdy it feels. The reason for this is the double framed corners that are on the 28 mm x 28 mm frame. This frame is something, Waltons love to use and with good reason. It is strong, reliable and it makes certain the playhouse will last many years.
No matter if your kids are into dancing like they are in a girl band or body slamming each other like they are pro wrestlers, the floor inside this playhouse has been made to take it. They have used slightly thicker solid sheet boarding than they have from the roof and we feel that this was a very smart decision. The decking area interestingly is made with different flooring, here Waltons have used tongue and groove boards and we must say they really do look amazing.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
Waltons will send this your way unpainted, but they are giving you a free five litre tub of wood treatment. This is golden brown in colour and will really make that smooth planed wood look extra nice. Treating the playhouse should be done shortly after construction, leaving it for another day will run the risk of rot appearing. To keep the playhouse rot free for its whole life, a fresh coating once a year is required.
Now the 13′ 8″ x 6′ 6″ Honeysuckle Playhouse with Tower & Slide does come with a ten year guarantee, but we must stress that this is only valid once you have treated the playhouse.
Doors And Windows
The first thing we need to tell you about the door is how Waltons have put a small gap around it. This is done so that the children will not trap their fingers in the door. High quality hinges have been used so that the door will not sag and cause that safety gap to disappear. At 3 feet 6 inches high and 2 feet wide, Waltons have made sure that even if they are carrying 8 of their favourite stuffed friends, they will still easily fit through the door. The actual style of the door is something we also really like as it has this flower decoration on it that has a small, round window right in the middle.
There are two Georgian style windows on the front on the playhouse which go very well with the small one on the door. All three of these windows are made from the same high quality and child safe material, shatterproof styrene.
Security And Privacy
We feel that as this is a tower playhouse it is a little bit more secure than one that just sits on the ground. The lack of a lock is not something that we are concerned with, just be sure to get the kids in the habit of closing the door once they are done playing.
As all of the windows are located on the front of the playhouse this one does have a little more privacy than those that are covered with windows. We would not worry about it anyway as the kids will probably want people to look at their playhouse and see all the fun things it can do.
Customisation Options And Extras
You could decorate the decking area with a little chair, plant or something else and there is of course the option for you to paint this in a brighter colour, but that is all there really is as far as customising the playhouse goes. Really though when it looks so good anyway, you really will not want to be tinkering with the design anyway.
While we like the sand felt that is used for the roof, you can upgrade this to a 10 mm superior duty felt. This will cost an extra, £34.99 and is available in either olive green or charcoal. Waltons do offer an installation service for a cost of, £199.99 which is a little pricy for us, but if you do not want to build it yourself then at least this option is there.
We really like how this playhouse has turned out. Not only have Waltons made sure that it is a very fun playhouse, they have also ensured that it is very high quality as well.
Longevity of Materials
High quality timber that has been smoothed and planed has been used throughout and with a generous coating of treatment it is going to stay rot free. This is very well made and your kids will be able to use it for a very long time.
You have the actual playhouse, the underneath section, decking, ladder and slide, so as you can see there is many different areas on here to keep the children busy.
Ease of Installation
While this may be large, installation as long as you follow the instructions should be rather straightforward. It may take 4-6 hours, but it should be a relatively stress free experience. Just be sure to have a friend to help you.
We feel that due to all the things this playhouse has and the quality of it, it is offering very good value for money.
Final Thoughts: Your kids or grandkids are really going to love the 13' 8" x 6' 6" Honeysuckle Playhouse with Tower & Slide. As well as having their own little house to call their own, they also can have a lot of fun, playing underneath it. Going up and down the ladders, sitting on the decking area and of course using that large slide. There is just so much for them to do here that getting them to come in when it is time for tea is going to be quite the struggle, but we mean that in the best possible way. We really like this playhouse and if a playhouse stacked with features is what you are after then this one here is well worth making your shortlist.
