Shed Type and Roof Size
This is an exceptionally high quality workshop which focuses on privacy and space. It comes with a traditional style apex roof, helping to stop water collecting and causing rot. It also adds a great deal of internal space centrally throughout the building. This makes it an ideal selection if you’re taller than the average person. It measures 2.56m high and the eaves are 1.84m high.
It also helps to understand other measurements such as the depth (5.02m), width (3.05m) and the door measurements (1116 mm in height and 1770 mm in width).
Cladding, Frame and Floor
One of the major advantages of this workshop is the fact it is constructed with high quality Shiplap tongue and groove cladding. This is typically only seen on high-end garden buildings. It forms an incredibly strong water-proof barrier. The cladding measures 12mm thick which also means it is very hard to break into. So if you’re looking for a workshop that will withstand daily wear and tear for many years to come, this is a fantastic choice. Another thing worth mentioning is that it also has an expansion gap. This is useful as it prevents any changes in the timber throughout the year from damaging the structure.
The 45mm x 27mm extra thick, rounded framing supports the workshop really well. .Meanwhile, the tongue and groove floor is also a nice addition. It ensures you have a very solid base for the building, enabling you to store large heavy items without worrying about the floor collapsing.
Treatment Requirement and Warranty
As the workshop is made from Shiplap cladding, there are two different treatment options to consider. The first and the one we recommend, is the spirit based option. This is a much deeper treatment which penetrates right into the foundation of the timber. It protects not only the surface, but the inside of the wood too, preventing water from seeping in.
The second option is a water based treatment. This tends to be the most common because it is not only typically cheaper, but it also comes in a wide range of colours. As the workshop isn’t painted you may find you’d prefer a little colour added. There are a few colour based spirit treatments available, but the choices are limited. Just keep in mind that if you do choose a coloured water treatment, it will need re-applying once a year.
As for the warranty, like other Waltons buildings, this one is protected with a 10 year anti-rot guarantee. However, it isn’t made entirely clear that in order to be covered by this warranty you do need to treat the workshop. So if you don’t treat it in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and it does get rot within 10 years, you won’t be covered.
Doors and Windows
Large, solid double doors open out to a huge roomy interior. There is a Rim lock helping to keep the doors closed and secure. There are no windows which makes it a great choice for those seeking privacy. However, what you have to remember with this is that there will be no light inside the workshop. So if you plan on working late nights, an electrical pack is highly recommended. With that you need to factor in the additional cost of buying the pack and having it fitted.
Security and Privacy
This solid workshop is extremely private as well as secure. As well as the obvious security features such as the lock and lack of windows, the material is also a good thief deterrent. Shiplap cladding is extremely thick and solid, making it really hard to break down. So in terms of security and privacy, you’ll struggle to find a better quality workshop.
Customisation Options and Extras
There are more extras than there are customisation options. However, you can choose to customise the roof and the floor to add extra strength and stability. The workshop already comes with a free floor support kit which will boost the stability offered by the solid sheet board. If you want the floor to be ultra-strong then you also have the chance to upgrade to the Extra Strength floor support kit. We recommend this option if you plan on storing anything heavy.
It is also possible to customise the roof felt. As it stands, the roof comes with heavy duty sand felt. If you upgrade to superior felt you benefit from a fiberglass material that is extra-durable and you can choose from olive green or charcoal.
As well as these upgrade options, there are numerous extras available too. These include a wide range of treatments, though the workshop does come with a free Golden Brown 5L treatment. There are also Draper accessories and a weather-proof padlock with hasp and staple.
The workshop is designed to a very high quality which we are sure you will be pleased with. Mind you, you would expect that from such a high cost.
Longevity Of Materials 8.2/10
We are impressed by the longevity of this building. Even without treatment its materials are strong and durable. However, full benefits come after treatment when the timber becomes extremely protected against the elements.
Being one of the largest buildings in the Walton’s collection, you are guaranteed an exceptional amount of space. Of course, that means you will need a large amount of space in the garden.
Ease Of Installation 7.5/10
When you think about the sheer size of this building it’s no surprise to learn that it does come with a few challenges during installation. The panels slot perfectly together quickly and easily, but it’s the time it takes to assemble as well as the weight and size of the panels that make it more difficult to construct.
Now while this workshop is spacious and designed to a very high quality, it still comes at a very high cost. If the floor had been made up of tongue and groove cladding too, it would make our rating a little higher. As it stands however there is the likelihood that you will have to invest in the Extra Strength support pack which adds even more onto the total. Then there’s the cost of future treatments to consider too.
Final Thoughts: If you’re searching for a huge, spacious and secure building to work in, this is definitely a good choice. If you can get past the initial high cost of the workshop, it does provide a few great features which make it worthwhile. Just keep in mind that if you plan on storing heavy machinery, the extra strength floor support pack is highly recommended.
