This is a medium size wooden tower platform playhouse with the addition of a fun wavy slide. Guaranteed to provide your children with hours of entertainment, the building comes with spacious measurements. The door width is impressive and wider than what you’ll find on many competitors. The height is measured from the ground to the top of the roof. Its interior gives your child plenty of space to play and would also be a great place to store outdoor toys.
Roof and Floor
The inside of the playhouse is built from solid sheet materials. This is common for this type of building as it is both strong enough to safely hold your children’s weight and it allows the manufacturer to offer the playhouse at a low cost. The roof has an apex design, helping to offer good rot resistance as well as increasing the height of the building. It is covered with a heavy duty sand felt and features a large overhang at the front. This overhang protects the front wall from rainwater and also provides a great little shaded area during hot summer days. As shown in the picture, it also allows you to hang your own decorations.
The roofs solid sheet material measures 8mm thick, whilst the floor’s material measures 10mm thick. This is actually the exact thickness you commonly find in wooden storage sheds. They are constructed to hold the weight of adults and light-medium storage. So with that in mind, you get a good idea of just how sturdy this floor is for children.
Cladding, Frame and Treatment Requirements
The manufacturer has made sure this playhouse is built to a very high standard. It has been constructed from tough 12mm Shiplap style tongue and groove cladding. This means not only is it very weather resistant, but it’s also durable enough to put up with daily wear and tear. Shiplap cladding also offers a smoother design, ensuring there is no risk of splinters. To ensure the playhouse is stable, 28mm x 28mm framing is used. This is commonly found on much larger garden sheds so on a building of this size you are guaranteed exceptional rigidity.
The picture of the playhouse is misleading in terms of its colour. You will actually receive a plain, wooden building. The picture shows what it could look like if you painted it. So keep this in mind before you buy.
Though naturally more resistant to the weather than overlap, you will need to treat the playhouse each year with a top quality preservative. This will ensure you get the full 10-year anti rot guarantee. We recommend using a spirit based treatment as this will provide the best protection and often means you can get away with simply treating the shed once every couple of years.
Doors and Windows
A fairly wide single door is added to the playhouse and a gap has been left around it to ensure your little one’s fingers don’t get trapped. This great safety feature isn’t found on all playhouses so it’s one benefit that really stands out with this model. It also features an easy to use door knob. This also adds a little more character to the building. We especially like the windows with their attractive panelled design. Filled with 2.5mm styrene, they are completely shatterproof so you needn’t worry about potential injury if your child manages to break them. Compared to glass they are also harder to break.
Safety and Features
We’re happy with the level of safety on this playhouse compared to some of its competitors. When you’re buying a tower playhouse you need to be 100% certain that it meets all safety regulations. There is a safety balcony around the playhouse, ensuring your children cannot fall down. The ladder also has a great grip, making it easy and safe for your children to use. Then there’s the gap left around the door to prevent trapped fingers and finally the safety styrene glazing. You’ll struggle to find a safer playhouse on the market than this model.
As for features, the playhouse comes with a wavy plastic slide. This can be attached to various parts of the veranda, ensuring it fits in with the design of your garden. Be aware that the decorations shown in the picture do not come with the playhouse. They are simply there to show you how you could make it look.
Customisation Options and Extras
There are a number of additional options available, though some are definitely more useful than others. The installation service is something we would recommend. Though it may seem expensive, you need to think of the safety aspects involved. Obviously you want it to be as safe as possible for your children and professional installation ensures it is built to the manufacturer standards. It also saves you time and effort too so if you do have the money, it makes sense to invest in this service.
We’d also recommend the wood treatments available. There are several colours to select from, helping you to customise the look of the playhouse. If you’re hoping to create a similar look to that of the playhouse shown in the picture, you’ll need a colour such as Evergreen. Of course, these treatments also add durability to the building so if you only invest in one extra, we’d advise you choose one of these treatments.
The only other option you might want to consider is the superior duty felt. The heavy duty roofing felt supplied is great quality, but being a mineral felt it can perish if it is exposed to harsh weather. The superior felt is available in green and charcoal colours and it is constructed with strong fibreglass. This will not deteriorate even if it is exposed to heavy downpours and harsh winds. So for very little extra cost, you can really enhance the life of the roof.
This is a great quality tower playhouse. Constructed from Shiplap tongue and groove, it is both stylish and durable.
Longevity of Materials 9/10
With annual treatments you can be sure this playhouse will last at least 10 years.
Safety and Features 10/10
Safety is guaranteed with this model and it even boasts a child-safe door – something not all playhouses come with. The wavy slide is also an excellent addition to the playhouse. Not only does it offer an additional fun element, but it also provides a safer way for your child to get down compared to the ladder.
Ease of Installation 7/10
Full instructions do come with the playhouse, though it will take some time to put together. We highly recommend you use the installation service if only to ensure it is constructed safely.
We feel this model comes at a very reasonable cost. Considering you are getting both a playhouse and a fun slide, it offers superb value for money.
