This is a tower platform playhouse, offering a spacious indoor children’s play area. Its compact measurements mean it should snugly fit into any garden. Compared to competitor models, the door is taller than average; though it is slightly shorter in width. Obviously this is built specifically for children so if you’re looking for a playhouse you can use with your child, this wouldn’t be the best model to opt for.
Roof and Floor
An apex style roof gives the playhouse great height, making it suitable for even taller than average children to use. This style of roof also protects the playhouse against rot. The water runs off the roof, straight onto the ground below. You’ll also notice there is a fairly large overhang at the front of the building which provides a little cover during wet conditions.
The interior of the playhouse is built from solid sheet. This is commonly found in budget sheds and it’s not the sturdiest of materials. However, it is reliable and capable of easily withstanding your child’s weight. We would suggest strengthening the floor for your own peace of mind, but it does meet safety guidelines so this isn’t essential.
Cladding, Frame and Treatment Requirements
A number of cladding types are used on outdoor wooden buildings, but Shiplap tongue and groove is the best quality. Usually manufacturers use Shiplap purely for its durability and style benefits. However, with this playhouse safety has also been factored in. Shiplap is planed and rounded so that it offers a smooth finish. This means your child isn’t at risk of getting splinters or cuts if they touch the walls.
Another massive benefit of Shiplap is that it stands up to even harsh weather conditions. It provides a water tight interlocking seal and is guaranteed to last a lot longer than cheaper overlap materials. The framing used is exactly the same as the ones found in the majority of garden sheds. Standard 28mm x 28mm framing provides stability and the corners of the playhouse have also been double framed for maximum strength. The playhouse itself is held up by strong, very thick support beams.
A water based treatment has been applied to the timber before it is shipped to you. You will need to top up this treatment, ideally with a spirit based variation, as soon as you have assembled it. These treatments will then continually need to be re-applied each year. If you do this you will benefit from a 10 year anti rot warranty.
Doors and Windows
A single door is attached to the front of the playhouse, offering spacious access for even taller children. It benefits from a stylish door knob rather than a handle; ideal for small hands to gain easy access into the playhouse. It has a solid design and is built to withstand daily use.
The small windows included are made from styrene glazing. This is used due to its unique shatterproof safety benefits. Not only will it not shatter if broken, but it is also much more difficult to break than glass.
This playhouse comes with an EN-71 safety rating. So what does this mean? Basically it meets the European standard safety requirements that all toys need to meet when sold in Europe. It has been rigorously tested before being added to the market.
Waltons have included a safety balcony, shatterproof windows and a strong stable construction. So you can have total reassurance that your kids will be safe whilst playing in this building.
Customisation Options and Extras
There isn’t an overwhelming amount of customisation options and extras available with this playhouse, but it doesn’t really require many upgrades. Out of this additional options, the one we’d most recommend is the installation service.
The number one thing you look for in a playhouse is safety. As this model is raised off the ground, it is vital it is built correctly. The installation service guarantees a stable, safe and reliable construction. You will need to have a firm base ready for when the installation team arrives. Apart from that however they will do all of the hard work for you – even clearing away afterwards! It may seem like an expensive extra, but you can’t put a price on safety when it comes to your kids.
Superior duty felt is something else we’d recommend. It comes in two different coloured variations and allows you to not only customise the look of the playhouse, but it also provides a longer lasting weatherproof barrier. It is created from tough fibreglass which means it doesn’t break down when exposed to the elements.
As you’ll see, various treatments make up the bulk of the extras offered. You can choose from top brands Cuprinol or Barretine. Between them there are a lot of different colour variations available which makes it easy to customise the playhouse and completely change its appearance.
This playhouse has been designed to a high standard. Its construction is faultless and we especially like the fact the timber has been planed and rounded for additional safety.
Longevity Of materials 9/10
As high quality materials are used in the construction of the playhouse, it does benefit from great natural longevity. However, as with all wooden buildings, it will require annual treatments to keep it protected against harsh weather conditions.
This is a fairly simplistic tower playhouse, but its raised design does add to its adventure quality. It has the same appeal as a treehouse, yet it’s a lot safer for kids to use. The safety balcony and small shaded area caused by the overhang are also good features.
Ease of installation 5/10
If you choose to self-assemble this playhouse it isn’t going to be easy. Obviously safety is one of the main things you’ll be concerned with so if you really want to guarantee maximum safety, we recommend using the installation service.
We’re impressed by the great value of this playhouse. It’s going to last many years and provide a lot of enjoyment for your kids.
Final Thoughts: The strong and sturdy Honeypot Rose Wooden Tower Playhouse guarantees hours of fun for your little ones. Encouraging your kids to get out of the house and actively play, this compact building will fit in any garden. Backed by an EN-71 safety certificate, the playhouse benefits from shatterproof windows, round and planed timber and a safety balcony. The only thing to be aware of is that it comes unpainted so it will not have the same colour as the one shown in the picture. Coloured treatments are available as an extra however so you can easily recreate the same look if you want to.
