Review By:

This natural looking pent shed has a tall, rigid design. It doesn’t have a large amount of internal space, but it can comfortably hold essential gardening equipment and tools. With solid tongue and groove Shiplap walls, its exterior is very impressive.

There is a styrene fixed window on the front of the shed which gives the building more natural light than a side fitted window. The single door is situated next to the window and it comes with a super-strong braced design. This is a great feature to find on budget sheds as it stops the door sagging and ensures it is suitable for even heavy daily use.

A pent roof offers the same waterproof benefits as an apex roof, with the additional benefit of being easier to install in height restricted spaces. For example, it can be erected underneath low hanging tree branches.

The only thing you need to be aware of is the solid sheet floor provided with the building isn’t really ideal for heavy storage. The pressure treated floor joists do add more stability than a standard solid sheet floor, however it is still a little flimsy. For the price you pay for the shed however, this is to be expected.

Building Type and Measurements

  • Ridge height – 6’5”
  • Eaves height – 5’3”
  • Door height – 5’8”
  • Door width – 2’5”
  • External depth – 4’0”
  • External width – 6’0”

The Windsor Suffolk shed is built with light storage in mind. It is a mid-size storage shed and in the picture you’ll notice there’s a small workbench shown for example storage ideas only (the workbench doesn’t come with the shed). However, we’d recommend against using this as a small workshop due to the weakness of the solid sheet floor. Measurement wise it’s actually pretty standard, apart from the width of the door which is wider than average. This means you can transport wider, bulkier equipment easier than you could with some other similar buildings.

Roof and Floor

As the main thing focused on with this shed is value, the manufacturers have only used solid sheet materials for the floor and roof. Unlike some other budget sheds, the thickness of these materials is also the weakest you will find. The floor measures 10mm and the roof measures 8mm thick. So whilst the outside of the building is strong and secure, the inside could definitely use some improvements; particularly if you plan on storing anything heavy. However, if you only have light tools to store, this will be perfect for you.

There is one thing that is worth mentioning however and that’s the pressure treated floor joists. Shed Store pressure treat the majority of the floor joists they provide so when buying through them you do receive slightly more stability than you do from other manufacturers.

The pent roof is a great feature and though it is covered with a fairly sub-standard felt, it does offer fantastic weatherproof benefits. Compared to many other pent sheds, this one is also pretty tall which is great if you need to store anything like long rakes, brushes or even fishing poles.

Cladding, Frame and Treatment Requirements

The Shed Store are one of the few manufacturers to add tongue and groove clad buildings to their budget collection. The Shiplap cladding used on this pent shed gives it an exceptional strength and magnificent durability. It is best known for its weatherproof features, such as the great indented channel running centrally throughout each panel. It ensures rainwater is drained away from the walls, in turn preventing moisture related issues. You’ll also see it gives the shed a more streamlined, smooth finish.

We’re also interested to see that the manufacturers have added a 27mm x 32mm frame. This a unique design feature and it provides a much stronger level of support than most budget sheds.

Before being shipped out for delivery, the shed has been given a basecoat treatment. You also receive a completely free tub of treatment with the shed. Annual treatments are needed to maintain its great weatherproof benefits. However the fact you receive a free treatment provides even more value for money. It is also worth noting the shed comes with a 10 year anti rot warranty.

Doors and Windows

We always like to see a budget shed with a high quality door. The single door is both hinged and braced for the best stability. You won’t need to worry about sagging issues as it is designed to withstand daily use. It also has a nice, wide design making it simple to transport all of your tools and equipment inside and outside of the building. It is fitted with a pad bolt which is very effective at keeping the door closed. However, be aware that it doesn’t provide a theft proof lock.

The fixed window featured on the front of the shed has a basic, common design. However, as it is fitted on the front of the shed, rather than the side, it does offer more lighting. The window is glazed with shatterproof styrene which is pretty tough in comparison to glass.

Security and Privacy

The shatterproof window isn’t going to be easy for a thief to break, but it could compromise privacy. It’s a small window, but if your garden isn’t secure a potential thief could peer through to see if there’s anything worth stealing inside. The tongue and groove shiplap walls and shatterproof window offer a decent amount of protection against break-ins but the pad bolt on the doors isn’t going to stop a thief gaining access. So we definitely advise you to buy a padlock.

Customisation Options and Extras

There are five additional options you have with this building, though they aren’t all essential. The one we feel is most worthwhile is the Portabase DIY Timber Base Kit. Pressure treated for longevity, this solid base will give you reassurance that the shed will remain stable for many years. It is so important to make sure you erect wooden buildings on top of a sturdy, good quality base. Despite its exceptional quality, this particular base from a leading manufacturer is very affordable. You can also choose to have it professionally installed. If you want maximum peace of mind that the shed is going to be ultra-stable, this installation service is worth investing in. However, note that it only includes the installation of the base and not the actual shed.

There is a separate garden building installation service you can take advantage of if you don’t fancy erecting the shed by yourself. However, it is fairly expensive. So you need to think about whether the cost justifies the benefits you receive from having a team of professionals deal with the installation.

Two other extras that may be useful but aren’t necessarily required include a DIY Assembly Assistance Tool Kit and coloured treatments. The tool kit is very impressive and we like it because the tools included can be used to build any sheds or outdoor buildings you buy in the future. The treatments are also a good extra to invest in, though the shed does come with a free tub of treatment which will be sufficient for the first year.

You’re given great value for money with this model, especially when you take into account it is created with Shiplap tongue and groove cladding. It has an outstanding look and a great weatherproof design.
Overall Score
Final Thoughts: This is a superb value shed and it’s really impressive that its walls are constructed with Shiplap tongue and groove cladding. At this price, you’d expect the building to be constructed with overlap. So that does set this model apart. Whilst it isn’t great for heavier storage, it will perfectly hold the weight of light to medium weight tools. A front fixed styrene glazed window offers great lighting, whilst the wide single braced door gives you plenty of room to manoeuvre bulky items in and out of the shed. All in all if you are searching for a great quality budget shed then this is definitely the one for you.
