Shed Type And Roof Size
We will be honest and say most of the time when we review a greenhouse it is more about its functionality than the way it looks as really there is only so much you can do with a greenhouse, or so we thought. The 6 x 6 Waltons Pressure Treated Wooden Greenhouse proves that you can have a greenhouse that is also gorgeous as well as very practical. This is made with lovely timber and it really does have a high quality, attractive design. Using this timber may have forced Waltons to raise the price a little bit, but we feel that as soon as you see how great this looks, you will feel it is well worth it. This is not the largest greenhouse on the market and at, 6 feet 5 inches wide and 6 feet 2 inches deep is something of a compact design. This is not a bad thing as it just means, you have to be a little more creative with how you organise your vegetables, fruit and plants. The height of this greenhouse makes it looks far larger than it actually is as the ridge height is over 8 feet tall and the eaves are even a very respectable, 5 feet 10 inches high
The roof due to being so high really does have an impressive look to it. Plenty of sunlight is going to get in through the shatterproof styrene glazing and due to the roof being so high, you will find that you can walk around inside here comfortably. Another benefit from the raised roof is that you will be able to grow some very nice and high vines inside here.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
Most greenhouses that we have seen have styrene, polycarbonate or even glass go from the top to the very bottom, but that is not the case with this beauty. Most of the greenhouse is made with this very strong and shatterproof styrene glazing at 2.5 mm thick this is some very strong stuff. Rather than have this go all the way down, Waltons have gone the extra mile and there is some 12 mm thick, vertical tongue and groove shiplap cladding all the way around the bottom of the greenhouse and it really does look amazing.
The shatterproof styrene is very strong, but Waltons have made sure this is one very robust greenhouse by using an impressive, 45 mm x 45 mm pine framing. Some greenhouses have a tendency to feel a little weak and flimsy, but will not be the case with this one thanks to the solid framing that supports the whole structure.
Along the bottom of the greenhouse is a strong, pine base rail, but there is not actually flooring included with this. We always feel that a solid concrete surface is best to install this, but honestly, we feel that you could pretty much make do with any kind of surface. You could always buy some flooring at a later date if you want, but if you do have a concrete area or even a decking area then we are sure this will be fine on there.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
This is a bit of a rarity in that you will have to actually treat this greenhouse as it is made with timber. Use a good quality wood treatment to keep that gorgeous wood rot free. Treatment is best applied within a week of installation and then once a year after this.
Incredibly once you treat the greenhouse, you will then be covered by Waltons 15 year anti rot guarantee. This is pretty amazing and the same kind of guarantee they give with their sheds.
Doors And Windows
The 6 x 6 Waltons Pressure Treated Wooden Greenhouse has a very interesting and high quality door in that it is made to be a standout feature of the greenhouse. It is made with the same wood and shatterproof styrene glazing as the rest of the greenhouse and it is kept in place with this amazing hinges that have a very old school almost antique look to them. The door handle is also done in a very classy way so that it complements the greenhouse very well. Also at 2 feet 8 inches high and 2 feet 5 inches wide, the door is the perfect size for getting things in the greenhouse and also for taking out those giant, prize winning tomatoes you will be growing.
While the smarty pants answer would be the whole greenhouse is a giant window, actually you can open a couple of the panels or as Waltons call them, vents on the roof so that you can have fresh air enter the greenhouse. We know that for the most part you will want to keep it nice and warm inside of here, but if it is a hot summer’s day and you are working inside of here then you will be very happy those panels can be opened.
Security And Privacy
This is one of the most secure greenhouses we have seen and the fact, Waltons have put an actual lock on the door is another example of them going the extra mile with this greenhouse. Locking the door will allow you to keep your giant veggies you plan on growing nice and safe.
As is the case with pretty much all of the greenhouses we have seen, privacy is not something you are going to be getting. The cladding along the bottom though would serve as a place to hide something’s out of view, but that is all there really is in terms of privacy.
Customisation Options And Extras
Waltons do not offer any customisation options with this greenhouse, but as you need to treat that lovely wood, you could always use a bright or even a darker wood treatment to change the look a little bit.
Some extras are offered with this greenhouse and to start with we have their installation service which costs £154.99. This may sound a little high, but to be fair we feel this is not totally out of line. An extra vent can be added to the roof so you can get even more fresh air in there, the cost of an extra vent is £24.99 which is a fair price. The last extra that they have is a little, 1.9 kw gas heater which costs £154.99 and is something to think about if you plan on trying to keep on growing things during the winter months.
This is one of the most high quality greenhouses we have seen and from the very peak of the roof to the pine base rail along the bottom it is first class all the way .
Longevity of Materials 8.5/10
You are going to get many years out of this greenhouse, just make sure you treat that wood to keep it free from rot.
We know an 8 may seem a little high for a 6 x 6 structure, but the extra height this gives you we feel does give you a little extra room to play with.
Ease of Installation 8/10
A good friend who is not shy to roll their sleeves up and get to work will be needed. Due to the height of the greenhouse this may be a little tricky in places, but as long as you follow the instructions, you should not have too many problems.
This may cost considerably more than many other greenhouses, but the design, quality of materials used, we feel makes it well worth it.
Final Thoughts: We really love the 6 x 6 Waltons Pressure Treated Wooden Greenhouse. This is one of the most attractive greenhouses we have seen and not only is this very pretty it is also very strong as well. You are going to be able to make use of this for a lot of years thanks to the clever way it has been designed and the high quality materials used. This is the kind of greenhouse that we feel would be perfect for those of you who want something that is going to look fantastic in your garden as well as offering you a great place to grow your food and take care of your plants. Yes the price may be high, but we certainly do not feel this is overpriced and we are sure you will be very happy with this.
