Shed Type And Roof Size
We are sure a few parents and grandparents are going to look at the 7 x 7 Waltons Dorma Window Outdoor Playhouse and think that it looks better than their first actual house. This really is quite spectacular and honestly spectacular is the only word that does this playhouse justice. The actual size of the playhouse is very impressive and it will look amazing sitting in your garden, the depth is 6 feet 11 inches and the width, 7 feet 3 inches. Inside this has just so much room to make use of the kids at first are not going to know what to do. The majority of floor space is of course is on the ground level, but the upper level is also rather spacious and we are sure they will have a lot of fun spending time up here. The upper level is done in a very interesting shape and of course there is that dorma window they can look out of while they are up there.
One extra thing we have to talk about is the little decking or if you prefer, porch area that this playhouse has. We can just picture the kids sitting out there on a warm summer’s day with their ice cream. This has a very nice railing around it and is made with strong tongue and groove boards so it can take a real battering from the elements.
The roof thanks to the dorma window and the window right on the front is very eye catching. But despite its very attractive looks, this roof is also very strong. It is made with thick solid sheet boards that can take a lot of weight so even when we have a heavy snowfall they will be able to deal with it. Covering these boards, Waltons have used high quality sand felt to keep those boards nice and dry.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
Waltons love to talk about how all the timber they use is planed and smoothed, this is most noticeable in the cladding. The 12 mm thick tongue and groove cladding will keep the rain out, but wow does this look gorgeous. The process that Waltons put the timber through really does make it look extra smooth and sleek and this greatly enhances the look of the playhouse.
With so much going on with this playhouse it is very easy to forget about what is keeping it all together, the frame. Call us geeks or nerds, but we love to see an impressive frame in a playhouse or a shed. Any structure that is going to last many years needs a good frame and the 28 mm x 28 mm frame that is in here certainly is a good frame that will keep the playhouse solid for many years.
Solid sheet boarding is used for the flooring on both levels of the playhouse. These boards are strong, but they are also lightweight enough that when it comes to installing the ones on the upper levels, you do not need Superman like strength to do so. These are 10 mm thick and in general we are very pleased with them. While it would have been fantastic if they had used the same tongue and groove boarding that is outside, it would have seen the price shoot up quite a bit.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
This comes with a free tub of treatment which should be applied once installation is complete or within the first week at the very most. The free treatment you get is golden brown and it does make the wood look very nice. A fresh coat once a year or so will be enough to protect the playhouse from rot.
Once you give the playhouse a good coating of wood treatment it will them be covered by a ten year anti rot guarantee.
Doors And Windows
The 7 x 7 Waltons Dorma Window Outdoor Playhouse has a good sized single door that has finger gaps so there will be no tears as a result from them getting their fingers trapped in the door. We just really love the whole style of this door, it has a window on it and even a lovely little door knob as well. Even though this is a single door it is still the better part of 2 feet wide so getting in and out will not be a problem, even if they have their arms full of toys and teddies.
Windows are certainly not in short supply with this playhouse and the dorma window is one of its most impressive features. As well as this, the upper level also has a window right in the middle of the front of the playhouse so plenty of light can get in. Downstairs there are an impressive 5 windows, including the one on the door. The four on the actual playhouse are done in a Georgian style and we really like how it looks. All of the windows have been made with anti shatter styrene so you do not have any worries about broken glass.
Security And Privacy
This adorable playhouse may not come with any kind of locking mechanism, but it is still quite secure. Just make sure that the children know they are supposed to close the door when they are finished playing. Do not worry about the lack of lock as this is the case with practically all children’s playhouses these days.
Because of its eye catching design, this playhouse is always going to make people want to stop and look. Kids will love people wanting to see their playhouse and when you have guests over they will probably insist they come outside to look at it, so they really will not be bothered that there is not much privacy to be had.
Customisation Options And Extras
If you wanted to change the look of the outside a little bit then you could do this by using a different wood treatment than the one you get free. Wood treatment is in all kinds of colours, both bright and dark so that would be one way to customise the playhouse.
Waltons do have an installation service available, but at £298.99 it is nearly half the price of the playhouse. You can upgrade the roofing felt to a superior duty felt. Waltons offer this in two colours, olive green and charcoal and each one is priced at £34.95. A portabase can be added, if you want to make sure the ground you are installing this on is ideal then this is worth considering and at £89.95 it is priced rather fairly. They also have a kitchen playset, this costs, £49.99 and is made with high quality timber and has a whole host of fun features.
Waltons have really done quite an impressive job with this playhouse. We are honestly having a hard time of thinking of anything that we would have done differently.
Longevity of Materials
Just keep giving it a fresh coating of wood treatment once a year and this playhouse will last their whole childhood.
This really is quite a large playhouse and with the two storeys and the decking area there is just a whole lot of room for them to use.
Ease of Installation
We would certainly suggest that you get a friend or family member to help you with this, preferably one who is not to uptight about making coffee. We would think that 4-6 hours would be the average time it would take to build this. Just do what the instructions tell you and you will be fine.
This is one of the more expensive playhouses from Waltons, but just look at how incredible it looks. Not only this, they have designed this to last many years so despite the somewhat high price tag, we still feel that this is very good value for money.
Final Thoughts: We really do love the 7 x 7 Waltons Dorma Window Outdoor Playhouse and if they had it just about 20 feet bigger we may actually buy one and move into it ourselves. Seriously though this is just a gorgeous playhouse and will be something that the kids just love spending time in. With its little decking area and multiple levels they really will have a fantastic time in here. Not only that we are sure the time they spend in here will be one of their most prized childhood memories as they grow older and as cheesy as it sounds you really cannot put a price on that. But speaking of price, we know that £599.95 is not cheap, but we still think this is worth the money as it is so well made and has such a great look. If you can afford it or are willing to save for it then we highly recommend you pull the trigger on this.
Prices around: £599.95
