Shed Type and Roof Size
This is a large Waltons metal garage, constructed with an apex roof. The building has been designed with maximum space in mind. For example, it features extra wide doors, as well as extra height provided by the apex roof. Most outdoor buildings, whether wooden or metal, tend to feature this roof design due to its excellent weather-resistant qualities. It stops water from collecting on top of the garage, ensuring it runs directly off the roof, minimising its contact with the sides of the building. This is partly why the company offers such a long-term guarantee.
The height of the roof measures 2.06m, giving you a lot of space to store tall vehicles or tools. As mentioned, the doors have been created with an extra-wide design, measuring 2.30m wide and 1.78m tall. The depth of the garage is also fantastic, measuring 6.02m, while the width measures slightly less than average at 3m.
Cladding Frame and Floor
The main frame and structure of this garage is constructed with lightweight aluminium and Bluescope steel. The latter is ultra-tough and is another reason why the manufacturer offers such a long-life warranty. So ultimately you have a building that is light enough to put together, whilst providing an incredibly durable frame that will not corrode or rust over time. To top it off, the metal is coated with a Pale Eucalyptus Titanium colourbond finish. The vinyl cladding not only supplies an exceptional barrier against rust and water damage, but it the Eucalyptus colour also looks really stylish. This is one of the best looking metal garages we have reviewed.
So that you can store heavy equipment and vehicles, Waltons has not included a floor with the construction of this building. Therefore you will need to assemble the garage on top of paved slabs or concrete. It should never be placed on top of a lawn.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
How does zero maintenance sound? Too good to be true? It actually isn’t as this garage doesn’t need to be treated with preservatives, treatments or paints. It already comes with an attractive painted design and the weather and rust proof coatings give excellent protection all year round. The materials used to create this garage have been selected for their durable qualities. So you won’t need to spend additional time or effort maintaining it.
As for the 30 year written warranty, we are extremely impressed with this. Not many outdoor buildings give you such a long guarantee so it ensures the money you are spending on the garage is well spent.
Doors and Windows
This garage comes with some brilliant features and the extra wide, double doors are one of them. Opening out to give you an exceptional amount of access, you can easily drive a vehicle in and out of the garage without worrying about scraping the sides. The doors are also reinforced, giving them a heavy, strong design that stops them unexpectedly closing on you. They are also fitted with a high quality pad bolt so you can keep them securely closed when not in use.
One thing we do advise you to be aware of is that the garage doesn’t come with windows. On the one hand this is great for privacy, but on the other it limits how much light can enter the building. If using as a garage this isn’t much of a problem. However, if you plan on using it as a workshop or a general storage facility, it might be a good idea to buy and install an electrical pack. Obviously you are looking at spending more money if you do need an electrical pack but thanks to the overall life-span and security of the building you are still getting great value for money.
Security and Privacy
Never worry about security thanks to the superbly strong metal construction. Bluescope steel is known as one of the toughest materials and offers a high level of security. The panels do feel a little flimsy when you’re putting the building together, but don’t let this fool you; it is exceptionally hard to break through this material. The pad-bolt included on the doors is also a good security feature, as is the windowless benefit. Without windows, everything you store will be kept out of the public eye. You are also given privacy to work if you do decide to use it as a workshop.
Customisation Options and Extras
As stated by the manufacturer, you will need the Absco anchor kit to secure the garage down. We’re disappointed this isn’t actually included with the price of the building; especially seem as though the company makes such bold claims about how wind proof the building is. If it really was able to withstand 147 mph winds, you wouldn’t need the anchor kit to ensure it stays grounded. However, it does boost your peace of mind and the kit isn’t actually expensive. Consisting of bolts, steel angles, nuts and dynabolts, the kit should ideally be used on concrete.
You will be impressed by the garage’s overall quality. We don’t see how any improvements could be made to the materials used. An extraordinary amount of care has been placed on the design of the building, both on the parts you can see and on the parts that you can’t.
Longevity Of Materials 8/10
You should expect this building to last 30 years which is pretty good going for an outdoor building. It has been pre-treated and painted to ensure it is protected against rodents, rust and water.
The garage provides a great amount of depth and height which is capable of holding a large vehicle or a lot of tools and equipment. Obviously you have to take its size into account as it won’t be suitable for small gardens.
Ease Of Installation 7.5/10
There are some things we like about the installation and some things we don’t. For example, we like that the manual provided is easy to follow and once slotted into place, the panels fit really well together. However, we don’t like the fact that this is more of a 3 person job and it will take a substantial level of time to put together. On the whole though, provided you have enough people working on it and you leave at least a couple of days to assemble the garage, you should find it pretty straightforward.
This is an expensive garage, but you do get what you pay for. Thanks to its durability, security and zero maintenance, you are getting excellent value for money.
Final Thoughts: Overall we do recommend this garage as one of the most secure and durable buildings on the market. However, we advise you to be aware of the cons before you buy so you aren’t disappointed with your purchase. Having to spend extra money on an anchor kit isn’t ideal but it will give you added peace of mind. With no windows and an incredibly secure structure, this is a great building for both storing vehicles or for using as a workshop.
