Shed Type and Roof Size
This is a very large, metal garage suitable for both vehicles and heavy, bulky machinery. Benefitting from a wide apex roof, the garage is constantly resistant to rainwater, allowing it to just run right off the building onto the floor. It requires no additional cover and there is no risk of water seeping in through the roof. The roof also gives you a lot more height within the garage, making it suitable for taller vehicles.
Another unique feature of this building includes two translucent panels within the roof which lets in natural lighting. It also comes with ridge covers which measure 150mm wide. These provide great ventilation, without allowing water into the garage.
In height the roof measures a fantastic 2.21m and the eaves are also higher than most outdoor residential buildings, measuring 1.80m. In order to accommodate large vehicles, the doors measure 2.57m in width and 1.80m in height. It comes with a width of 2.97m and an incredible depth of 5.22m.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
Waltons has used only the highest quality metal to construct this garage. The hot dipped galvanised steel is incredibly water-resistant and it boasts an extremely tough structure, both inside and out. It features horizontal style cladding, with no gaps for rainwater to enter the building. The frame is solid and reliable, providing excellent support for the garage.
As it doesn’t come with a built-in floor, it does need to be assembled on concrete or paving slabs. This may be a problem if you don’t have a paved section in your garden big enough for the building. However, overall we prefer this floorless design as it gives you the opportunity to store very heavy items, including large vehicles.
Treatment Requirement and Warranty
One of the best benefits of this garage is the fact that it doesn’t require any treatments. This includes both after it has initially been constructed and on an annual basis. The materials used are coated in zinc as well as being hot dipped, which means they provide an exceptionally high level of protection against both rust and rainwater. So after you’ve bought the shed, you won’t need to pay anything further on maintenance.
Waltons are so confident with the durability of the building that they provide a 10 year anti-rust warranty.
Doors and Windows
A lot of the Yardmaster outdoor buildings come with sliding doors. This one however has two wide double doors. If using as a garage, it does mean you have to get out of the vehicle to open and close the doors. There is also the risk that in high winds the doors could be blown closed. This is definitely something you need to consider. However, providing you aren’t bothered about not having an automatic or sliding door, they do provide excellent entry to the building. They are also lockable which is a definite benefit and a requirement if storing anything valuable.
Once inside the building, whatever you do decide to store will be kept totally private. This is thanks to the lack of windows. As mentioned earlier, the translucent panels on the roof provide light into the garage so you won’t need to install an expensive electrical pack.
Security and Privacy
The lockable doors and galvanised steel construction make give the building a very secure design. You can always choose to install an alarm system or invest in a better lock if you want to have total reassurance. However, even without additional protection it is still really secure. It is also very private which is what you need in a garage.
Customisation Options and Extras
This isn’t a building that offers various customisation options. What you see is literally what you get. An obvious advantage of this is the fact you don’t have to spend any extra money on the garage. What we often find with wooden sheds is the floor in particular needs to be upgraded to provide additional strength. As this building doesn’t have one, you can store virtually anything in it without having to worry about whether the floor can hold it.
While there are no customisation options available, there is one very useful extra. You won’t see it featured on the main product page for the simple reason that Waltons give you it for free with this garage. The free anchoring kit is used to attach the framework of the garage to the base. Giving you reassurance in regards to its stability, this anchoring kit is very simple to use and will make a massive difference to.
No need to worry about quality with this garage. It has been created to an especially high standard, offering a long lasting, sturdy design.
Longevity of Materials
The garage’s hot dipped galvanised steel construction gives the building an exceptionally long lasting design. It doesn’t even need yearly treatments to stay protected against the unpredictable weather.
Unlike the majority of Yardmaster metal buildings, this one features open-out double doors. This means it will take up more exterior space than other buildings. However, it is large enough to store small to medium size vehicles and the additional height provided by the apex roof enables you to keep taller vehicles in the garage too.
Ease of Installation
You may be surprised to learn that this building is easier to assemble than some of the smaller ones. While it will take a while to assemble, the panels and tools supplied make the installation incredibly simple.
When we think about the size of the building, what it can be used to store, how long it lasts and the features that come with it, we feel it offers ridiculously good value for money. This is especially true when you take into account the fact you don’t need to spend any money on expensive treatments.
Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for a secure, weather-resistant building that can safely store anything from workshop equipment to small vehicles, this is an ideal choice. The Yardmaster range is one of Walton’s most successful collections and it isn’t hard to see why. With translucent panels in the roof, you don’t even need to invest in an electrical pack. It offers value for money and superb durability.
