This 8 X 8 Lavenham Summerhouse with its very British, corrugated roof and sawn board cladding offers you a unique and very classic type of place to enjoy your free time. Made with some nice and strong, Scandinavian Redwood, you have here a summerhouse that will be a prominent feature of your garden for many, many years. This summerhouse looks good, is strong and would make any garden instantly better by being inside it.

The apex corrugated roof as well as being a stand out feature of the summerhouse also means that all your belongings are well protected against the rain. And thanks to the mortice lock on the large double doors your belongings are also protected from thieves. The fantastic, sawn board cladding will make sure that the bad weather is kept at bay. Six high quality windows give you a lot of natural light and with two of them opening, you can get a very nice cross breeze to keep you cool on a nice summers day.

Shed Type and Roof Size

The Lavenham Summerhouse - Dome OchreThe Lavenham Summerhouse is made with the finest, Scandinavian Redwood which is some of the strongest wood you can get. Offering a very spacious, 7 feet 9 inches in both width and length we feel that there is a fantastic amount of space to plan out your dream summerhouse where you can spend many a fun or relaxing evening, sipping a glass of wine as you watch the world go by. Crane have made sure that at the ridge of the summerhouse, you have more than enough headroom, just about the seven foot mark to be exact even at the eave, you have right around six feet of headroom so that you will not have to crawl around inside. This headroom is ideal because as well as being practical it also falls under the eight feet mark which would result in planning permission being needed.

With it’s corrugated, apex style roof, The Lavenham Summerhouse really does resemble a classic, British style of summerhouse. The apex roof with its slight overhang makes sure that when our fantastic British weather is not behaving itself the rain will just run right off. 19 x 125 mm tongue and groove boarding is what Crane are using to hold up the corrugated roof and being made with Scandinavian Redwood it is more than strong enough to handle this. One extra thing that is added to the summerhouse is something that we really love and that is the ceiling. That is right there is an actual ceiling inside here which is made with this lovely pine effect and it just finishes the inside of very nicely.

Cladding, Frame and Floor

The Lavenham Summerhouse - Earls GreyCrane have gone with some old school, sawn board cladding here and it really does give the summerhouse that unique classic style that they were going for. The cladding is made with that strong, Scandinavian Redwood and is 12 x 150 mm thick. To give it that extra little bit of pop and really make it stand out there is a nice topping of 16 x 38 mm. This type of cladding with its uniform style does do a fantastic job of keeping the elements at bay and we also think that it does it with some very nice style as well which will make it not just a great place to sit and relax, but also a standout feature of your garden.

The Lavenham Summerhouse will be a place that you can enjoy relaxing in for many good years and a huge part of this is down to the frame. At 19 x 50 mm and like the rest of the summerhouse, made with Scandinavian Redwood this is a frame that has been designed and built to last for a very long time! We are more than confident that this frame will not lose its strength and become flimsy which cheaper made frames do tend to do after just a few years. We see the frame of a summerhouse as its bones and this certainly does have some very strong bones!

A summerhouse should be somewhere you want to sit down relax and really make your own special, fun and personal space. In order to do this we need a nice strong floor and once again thanks to that Scandinavian Redwood, strong is what we have! The flooring is 19 x 125 mm tongue and groove boarding, the same as the roof. This is very good flooring and will be more than able to handle some chairs, tables or whatever else you may have in mind when it comes to decorating your summerhouse. To give the floor a helping hand, Crane have used some 38 x 50 mm floor joists.

Treatment Requirements and Warranty

The Lavenham Summerhouse - Painters GreyYour summerhouse will be painted, but it is up to you to take care of it with some proper treatment in order to make sure it stays strong and looks great for many years. This is something we always recommend that you do right away as showing your summerhouse a little TLC will make sure it stays a nice feature in your garden for a long time.

Crane do offer you a two year warranty which covers you against any general wear and tear. This warranty though will not be valid if you insist that the summerhouse is placed in a section of your garden that Crane have recommended against.

Doors and Windows

The Lavenham Summerhouse - Terrace GreenWith some very large double doors, The Lavenham Summerhouse is inviting you to come inside the moment you see it. These doors have a lot of space for you to get things in and out with ease. The actual size of the doors when opened is 1100 mm high and 1830 mm wide, you could actually get a sofa in here and not have any trouble doing so! In line with Cranes attention to detail the “door furniture” is very nice and just gives the door a very high class look to it. They have used black, Fleur- de- Leys hinges which look lovely, but are also strong so that the doors will stay in place. In addition to the hinges we have a black door handle and lock as well to really bring the front of the summerhouse to life.

Thanks to the large six windows, you will get a lot of natural light in here. Each of the windows is made with actual glass and not just average glass, but 4 mm thick, toughened glass which does offer protection against the kids and their footballs! The windows have a very nice lead cross in them to give the summerhouse just that little bit more style and we really do think it helps make the summerhouse stand out just that little bit more. Two of the windows are located on the doors and these ones are just a little bit smaller than the rest. The other four are all the same size and the two on the sides of the summerhouse actually open and they do so with the same style of high quality hinges that the doors do.

Security and Privacy

The Lavenham Summerhouse - Wades LanternNormally a summerhouse or shed would come with a very basic style of lock, but Crane know this is a place where you will be having some very nice things so as standard, The Lavenham Summerhouse does come with a very secure, mortice lock and key.

With six large windows, people peeking in may be something that some of you are concerned with, but a set of blinds would counter this and also offer a little bit of shade if the sun is really bearing down on you.

Customisation Options and Extras

When it comes to making The Lavenham Summerhouse your own, Crane offer you the choice of six different colours of paint. Wades Lantern, Dome Ochre, Earls Grey, Painters Grey, Disraeli Green and Terrace Green. We think it is a good idea to think long and hard about what colour you want the summerhouse in so that it fits in perfectly with the rest of your garden.

Scandinavian Redwood is incredibly long lasting add to this the way the frame is designed, the sawn board cladding and of course that apex corrugated roof and you have a summerhouse that is going to be standing strong for many years.
Storage Size 7.5/10

8 x 8 is a very nice size it gives you a good box shape which makes planning out your summerhouse rather easy. Our only criticism of the storage size is that the price is rather high for a summerhouse of this size, but still we imagine this amount of space would be more than enough for most people.
Ease Of Installation 10/10

You do not get much more easier than Crane coming to your house with a couple of their expert builders and putting the whole thing together for you! So back away from the hammer, grab a drink and relax while they do it for you.
Value For Money 7.5/10

This is a very well made, high quality and unique in its style type of summerhouse……. But for this high quality you do have to pay a high price.
Overall Score
Final Thoughts: We are very impressed by the incredibly high quality that just runs all through the Lavenham Summerhouse. The apex corrugated roof and the sawn board cladding really do make it look like a summerhouse you would see in an old timey, East Anglian garden or allotment. Of course we do have to say that this is a very expensive summerhouse, but with the near five grand price tag, you are getting a summerhouse that is made from the very best of the best when it comes to materials and it will be built by Crane themselves so it really is a case of “you get what you pay for” here. If you want to really go all out and make sure you have a summerhouse of the highest quality and a summerhouse that is going to last you for a very long time then hitting the buy button on this would be a very good idea!
