Shed Type And Roof Size
Right here we have a very awe inspiring type of summerhouse. The Orford Summerhouse is a very good sized building offering you 7 feet 9 inches in the length and then another 7 feet 9 inches again in the width. It gives you a good amount of floor space where with some clever planning on your part, you can have a fantastic summerhouse that you are just going to love spending time in. Made with Scandinavian Redwood the whole summerhouse just has such a high quality feel to it that, you really do feel from the moment you step inside you have made a fantastic purchase. There is a good amount of head room here at just a little over seven feet at its highest point. What is great is that even at the lowest point you still have six feet of headroom so there will be no need to hunch over when inside.
For the roof, Crane are using some very sleek, cool and certainly old school, corrugated roofing. We love the look of this as it really does bring you back to the way, British sheds and summerhouses used to be designed. This is a pent style roof so no rain will be sitting on here it will just run right off the back. 19 x 125 mm tongue and groove boards are used for the roofing inside and these are very good boards, being made with that Scandinavian Redwood. Rather than have you just looking up at the roof boards when you are relaxing in here, Crane have went that extra mile by including a pine tongue and groove ceiling which we feel just adds to the high class, high quality look and feel of the summerhouse.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
Instead of using the exact same cladding that all other summerhouses and sheds are using these days, Crane have opted for some flat sawn cladding. This 12 x 150 mm, Scandinavian Redwood comprised cladding not only adds to the classic look of the building, but it also is just so efficient at keeping out the rain. To make the cladding look that extra little bit more special there is a great looking 16 x 38 mm topping that gives the outside of the summerhouse a very nice effect.
From the outside The Orford Summerhouse does have a very strong and powerful look to it and when you touch it for the first time you will be impressed with just how sturdy it is. This is because the frame that ties it all together is again made from Scandinavian Redwood and at 19 x 50 mm it is a frame that is going to stay strong for a very long number of years. We are more than sure that even five, ten years down the road that this summerhouse will be just as firm and we have the well built frame to thank for that.
Nothing can spoil a good looking summerhouse like a cheap and bouncy floor can. Thankfully Crane made the right move by using those same 19 x 125 mm tongue and groove boarding that makes up the roof for the floor. This boarding can take a lot of weight so do not be scared to really fill this summerhouse up! To add a little bit more muscle and make the floor feel more sturdy the 38 x 50 mm floor joists that are under the floorboards have been spaced out expertly.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
Now the Orford Summerhouse is built to the highest standard and with some very top of the line materials, but to keep things good, you need to be sure to give the summerhouse a little bit of love and take care of it. This starts with giving it a generous coating of wood treatment when you first get it to make sure it stays strong and of course looking good.
Crane take a lot of pride in their work so they offer a two year warranty where they will fix or replace anything that breaks in the first two years. This is of course only as a result of natural causes and not things like you crashing your mower into it. They will place your summerhouse anywhere in your garden you ask, but if they tell you a certain place is not right for the summerhouse and you choose to ignore their advice then this can void your warranty.
Doors and Windows
When those large 1100 mm high and 1830 mm wide double doors are open, The Orford Summerhouse looks just so inviting. These doors make it so easy to get your furniture inside without any issues. Even getting something large like a couch would not be a hassle. There is a window on each door that has this really nice lead cross design in the glass. Each door is held on with two black cast iron, Fleur-de-Leys hinges that really stand out and they are so strong that even five years later the doors will still be held in place. A black door handle and lock go well with the hinges and help make the doors look that extra bit special.
Crane have gone above and beyond with the quality of the windows here. The two on the doors are joined with another four windows and they are all made from this incredibly tough, 4 mm thick glass so if you do have kids then it can take the odd hit from a ball. The lead cross decoration is in all six windows and we do think that it is a very cool design. With all six windows being on the front of the summerhouse, you can get a lot of light in here that is very pleasant in the summer. The two windows closest to the sides actually can open up to let in a bit more air.
Security and Privacy
The mortice lock that is included here is as good a lock as you need. This will make sure no one is getting in here who you do not want to so all your belongings are going to be safe. No need to slap on a padlock or anything like that as this lock offers more than enough security.
All the windows are located on the front of the summerhouse so depending on where in your garden you pace the Orford Summerhouse, you may have some concerns about people being able to look and see what you have going on inside. Well as all the windows are on the same side it makes adding some blinds or curtains easy.
Customisation Options And Extras
This is a fantastic looking summerhouse, but Crane do offer you the choice of six colours of paint to finish it off. Painters Grey, Dome Ochre, Earls Grey, Wades Lantern, Terrace Green and Disraeli Green are what you have to pick from and there is a good mix of laid back and more in your face colours.
The quality of materials that are used here are just first rate all the way and as a result, you have a summerhouse that just looks and feels high quality in every regard.
Longevity Of Materials
Crane have carefully picked materials such as Scandinavian Redwood and 4 mm toughened glass because they know these materials will last a long time. With the right amount of care on your part there is no reason you will ever need to buy another summerhouse.
We think that with the right amount of planning that 8 x 8 is a good size for a summerhouse. Part of the fun actually is figuring out how you are going to make everything fit just right.
Ease Of Installation
Just sign for it at the door and Crane do everything for you! The fact that their builders handle the installation make it even more likely the summerhouse is going to last a very long time.
While the price is clearly on the high side, you are getting a great deal for your money here. Not only that, but you are getting a summerhouse that is going to be in it for the long haul with you so no need to replace or fix parts of it each year.
Final Thoughts: Offering a very decent amount of space for you belongings, being made with high quality materials and also being great to look at make this an easy recommendation. The price when you consider just how well this is made and that it is going to last you just an incredible amount of years really does fall more in line. For people who want a summerhouse that is as much a feature in the garden as it is a place to relax, The Orford Summerhouse would be ideal.
