Playhouse Type And Roof Size
The Croft 5X5 Playhouse from Blooma is one of the better, low cost dual level playhouses that we have seen. Coming in at a little over £400 this is a playhouse that does not break the bank, but offers a decent amount of space, style and will give the kids many years of fun. We really love the design of this playhouse and with it being a dual level structure it certainly is going to stand out very well. Both the width and the depth are right around 5 feet which we feel is a good amount of space for most kids. They will easily be able to fit plenty of toys and a few friends in here with them. Plus there is also the upper level for them to make use of as well which can be reached with a child safe ladder and also has a railing so that they cannot jump off or fall down.
Blooma as we would have expected have gone for an apex roof. Let us tell you apex roofs are just great and this one here is made with some impressive boarding and covered with durable felt. The roof does have a little bit of an overhang over the front of the playhouse and we feel that it does give the playhouse a little bit more style.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
Even though this is a budget priced playhouse, Blooma have still used impressive cladding for the walls. 12 mm thick tongue and groove shiplap cladding has been used and we really like the way this looks and how it gives the playhouse an almost log cabin in the woods type of look. This cladding is joined together so well that there simply is no way for water to get inside the cabin.
The framing inside the playhouse is going to keep this structure solid for many years and be able to take a bit of a beating as the kids play inside because as we all know kids really do have a tendency to play a little wild, especially if they think mum and dad are not watching. If we are honest at this price range we felt that Blooma may have used a thinner frame so we were very happy to see such a robust frame inside the playhouse.
The flooring is one of the things that really did surprise us. The floor is made with lovely tongue and groove boarding and it is able to take a lot of weight. They have used the same type of boards for the lower and upper levels and once you have installed this we highly recommend you take a good look at the floor and see what a great job Blooma did. We say this because five minutes after the kids have been inside it will be covered in toys, chocolate pudding and probably mud as well.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
Now as the Croft 5X5 Playhouse is a budget priced playhouse the wood will be given a basecoat treatment only. Now this is going to look after the wood during transportation and while you install it, but you will have to coat the playhouse with wood treatment within a few weeks of building the playhouse. Doing this will keep that gorgeous whitewood pine timber rot free and a fresh coating on a yearly basis will make sure the wood stays looking great forever.
This playhouse comes with a one year manufacturers guarantee where they say if you are not satisfied, you can in fact get your money back.
Doors And Windows
The door is not only a good size so that it is very practical for use, it also has a fantastic look to it. We have seen more expensive playhouses that have just a plain and basic door so seeing the effort that went into the design of this one was something that really did impress us. The door handle is this fun, knocker style handle that is going to make opening the door very easy. They have even put a little diamond shape window on the door which will let the kids peak out and see who is coming round to play.
Along with that lovely little diamond window that is on the door there are another three windows on the playhouse. On the front of the playhouse there is two fixed windows. One is on the lower level and the other is on the upper level. On the side of the structure there is a window which can actually be opened so you can crack that window open and let in a little fresh air. All of the windows are made with child safe styrene which is shatterproof.
Security And Privacy
The door does not have any kind of locking mechanism so you may want to install some kind of pad bolt to ensure the door stays closed when it is windy or even just during the winter months when the playhouse is not getting as much use. In general though this is quite a secure structure and we are sure you are going to be very impressed with how strong and secure it is.
Even with the generous amount of windows this is a playhouse that we feel still offers some privacy. Kids we find do not really care about this kind of thing, but you will be happy to know that the nosey neighbours cannot sneak a look and see inside easily.
Customisation Options And Extras
As you need to coat the playhouse with treatment anyway, we suggest that you consider using a wood treatment that is coloured to give that cladding a bit more style. Of course if you do like the natural look of the wood then you could always use a clear treatment.
Blooma are not trying to get any extra money from you with this as everything you need is included with it. We always like this as it means there is more money to spend on buying fun things to go inside it The only extra that we would suggest you consider is a pad bolt to keep that door securely closed when it is really windy.
This is a low priced playhouse, but still we are very happy with the general quality of it and we are sure that you will be too.
Longevity of Materials 8.5/10
Blooma have made sure that this is a structure that is going to be able to take the abuse kids throw its way and last for many years. True you will need to give that wood a little bit of love in the form of wood treatment, but apart from this there really is not all that much upkeep involved.
The 5 x 5 floor space may not make this the largest playhouse we have seen, but that is still a decent amount of space. Plus the children have that upper level to make use of as well.
Ease of Installation 7.5/10
Now this is going to be quite the DIY project so be sure to have a friend there to help you, a tool box, a steady supply of snacks and drinks and just try to take your time. It may take 6 or more hours and require a little fiddling here and there, but once built the smiles on the children’s faces make the effort well worth it.
This is one of the best priced dual level playhouses we have seen and with the amount of fun the kids are going to have with it then we can assure you that you are getting a lot of value for your money.
Final Thoughts: The Croft 5X5 Playhouse with its lovely design and decent amount of playroom is one of the best priced playhouses that we have seen in quite some time. Blooma have managed to make this a multi level playhouse, have a window that can be opened and use high quality flooring and not raise the price. If you are looking to get as much as possible for your money then this is a playhouse that simply has to be on your shortlist. The installation process may take a little while, but that is a very small price to pay for the years of enjoyment this is going to give the kids.
