Summerhouse Type And Roof Size
As far as smaller summerhouse go, the Hartwood 7′ x 5′ FSC Pressure Treated Bloxidge Summerhouse is one of the most charming that we have had the pleasure to look at. No matter if you want a little space to relax after work or to enjoy a little quiet time from the kids or your significant other, this is a summerhouse that can offer you that and in general a place to have a lot of fun. It is on the small size at 7 feet 3 inches wide and 5 feet 8 inches deep, but this is made for those of you with a smaller garden and in that regard we feel that the size is just ideal. The height though is very impressive as the ridge height is 7 feet 4 inches and to be fair even the 5 feet 8 inches of height along the ridge is fine.
The roof looks great and one of the things we really like is the lovely cladding that is just above the doors. This along with the little diamond decoration really gives the summerhouse a ton of personality. Structurally the roof is made well as they have used solid sheet boarding and sand felt which is a great combination.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
The cladding has a very sleek look to it as they have used tongue and groove shiplap cladding. This has been made with pressure treated wood so it is going to retain its good looks for many, many years. At 12 mm thick and watertight the cladding is going to keep your items safe from even the most brutal of rainstorms.
We are pleased with the frame that is inside the summerhouse as it is not just impressive in its own right at 28 mm x 28 mm. But it is also very impressive in the way it is connected to the cladding to make for one very robust summerhouse. While the frame is a decent size, you do not have to worry about the frame taking up a lot of space inside the summerhouse.
Now structurally we have no issues with the flooring at all. Solid sheet boarding sitting on top of a set of well placed out and durable floor joists. This is strong flooring that will happily take the weight of a table, couple of chairs and whatever else you need in here to help you relax. So while the floor is very strong, we must say that we would have loved to have seen some nicer looking flooring used for this summerhouse. However if you look at the pictures you can see that they have covered the floor with a rug so this is something you could do if you wanted the floor to be a little easier on the eyes.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
Pressure treated wood has been used to make this summerhouse and this is just fantastic in many ways. First of all we have the fact that, you do not have to worry about treating the summerhouse with wood treatment once you have installed it. Also it makes the wood resistant to rot and decay so you are always going to have one smart looking summerhouse to relax in.
The Hartwood 7′ x 5′ FSC Pressure Treated Bloxidge Summerhouse comes with a 15 year anti rot guarantee which we must inform you is dependent on you actually looking after the summerhouse properly.
Doors And Windows
We always like to see double doors on a summerhouse, even ones that are a little on the small size like this. They just make the summerhouse feel so much more inviting and homely. The doors are very well made and are rather thick so they are just as durable as the rest of the summerhouse. With both doors open they are 4 feet 9 inches wide and 5 feet 5 inches high so they do let in plenty of fresh air when you have them open as well as making it easy for you to get things inside.
As is the case with most other summerhouse of this size, the only windows are the ones that are on the doors. We to be honest are fine with this as these windows are huge and made with 1.2 mm styrene so they are also quite strong as well. We feel that they do get away with not having a window on the side, due to the compact size of the summerhouse.
Security And Privacy
While this is a very solid summerhouse and it does come with a hasp and staple, keeping your belongings locked up at will require you to add a padlock. This is something that you should think about doing, especially if some of the things you are putting here are a little on the expensive side.
The windows on the door are huge, so privacy may be an issue for some people. But as these are the only windows that are on the summerhouse, you could always place it in an area of your garden that is a little bit more secluded. Of if this is not possible due to the layout of your garden just add some blinds or curtains and you will have the privacy you desire.
Customisation Options And Extras
As this is a summerhouse, we feel that the majority of customisation will be done on the inside, but you could always add something like a hanging basket from the cladding above the door or on one of the sides if you wanted to add something to the outside. Of course you could always give it a coating of paint if you want to brighten or darken it up a little bit.
Surprisingly they do not offer any kind of locking mechanism as an extra, but they do have a 7′ x 5′ Ecobase Plastic Shed Base which can be added for £119.99. This is not something that is really for everyone, especially those installing the summerhouse on concrete or decking. But for those of you having to install it on grass it may be worth having a little think about this.
Apart from the floor, we really cannot think of a single thing that we would change on this summerhouse.
Longevity of Materials
With the way this has been designed from the materials selected to the pressure treatment process it has been put through, you are going to be able to have many boxes, or if you are more classy than us, glasses of wine in here.
We know that this has been designed to fit into smaller gardens, but this is still one of the smaller summerhouses that is out there. This does mean that you will have to be very conscious of how you are laying things out.
Ease of Installation
The compact size of this means that you and the person you have talked or swindled into helping you out should not have any issues installing this as there is not a whole lot to it.
While we do really like this summerhouse and are impressed with the materials used in its construction, we must admit this is one of the more highly priced, small sized summerhouses.
Final Thoughts: We feel that the Hartwood 7' x 5' FSC Pressure Treated Bloxidge Summerhouse is one of those summerhouse that is impossible not to be impressed by. They have done such a wonderful job in giving this such a charming personality that we are sure many of you will be willing to overlook its rather small stature. Still while it is on the small size, this does make this the perfect for those of you who have gardens where space is limited, but still want a high quality summerhouse. While this is certainly not cheap, you must remember that to get a summerhouse that is high quality you have to pay a little more and in this case we do feel that you will be very happy paying that little bit extra to get a summerhouse that is as high quality and good looking as this.
