Shed Type And Roof Size
What we have here is legitimately one of the best, low cost, but well made mid sized sheds that we have seen in some time. The Hartwood 7′ x 5′ FSC Pressure Treated Overlap Pent Shed really is very well done. To start with the look is just fantastic as it has something of an old school type of look to it which we really do like. This is a shed that actually does offer you a decent amount of space with the width being a very impressive 6 feet 10 inches. The depth is 5 feet 3 inches which is not too bad either. The headroom that this shed offers is just straight up awesome. They have made it so at the front of the shed there is an incredible 6 feet 11 inches of headroom, we are pretty sure that even someone as tall as Darth Vader could easily get inside here, well as long as he is not being pursued by Luke Skywalker of course.
Sand felt is used for this roof and that is something we really like. Sand felt always lasts a very long time and it is easy to install as well. Under this is some solid sheet boarding and that is far more strong than most people realise and it also helps keep the costs of the shed down. They have really done a great job with this pent roof and the rain is always going to run off the back and not sit on the top or flow off the front.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
Part of what makes this shed so special is that the rough and rugged 8 mm thick overlap cladding has undergone a rather intense pressure treatment process. Actually all of the wood has so you know that this is one very strong shed. Anyway back to the cladding, the way that this cladding is joined together makes it water tight so unless there is some kind of flood of biblical proportions, your shed is going to stay water free.
The frame that is connected to that fantastic cladding is a 28 mm x 28 mm frame, which we know does not sound all that exciting, but trust us when we tell you that this is one incredible frame that is so well made that even 20 or more years from the day you install it. This shed will still be standing strong and with pride.
The floor is very durable and able to take the weight of lots of items, even if many of them are heavy. This is because that floor is made with some strong, oriented strand boarding which we really like. It is not just the floor that impressed us. You see under the floor there are these very well made and cleverly arranged floor joists that help by keeping the shed from sitting directly on the ground.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
The shed will be delivered to you with all of the wood having been pressure treated. This is great in two ways. First of all it means that the shed is going to last for many years and not have any major battles with rot. Also it means that there is no need for you to treat the shed each year which gives you more time to do, well whatever it is you like to do. As much as we love how the shed is pressure treated if you did want to give it a coating of treatment that would not be a bad thing so if you want to then go ahead.
The Hartwood 7′ x 5′ FSC Pressure Treated Overlap Pent Shed comes to you with a generous 15 year anti rot guarantee.
Doors And Windows
The door is a single sized door which on a shed of this size is exactly what we would have expected. Still the door is a good height and width so we do not see you having any problems getting things that are large in and out of here. Strong braces are on the back of the shed door so that it is very robust and not flimsy. The hinges used not only will prevent the door from sagging, but they also have a great look to them.
The front of the shed has two anti shatter styrene windows that are 1.25 mm thick. These are quite large windows for a shed of this size and while we do think they are fantastic. We must say that we are a little disappointed that they cannot be opened.
Security And Privacy
Making sure that the door is not blowing open in the wind and inviting in all the local wildlife, is a hasp and staple. This does keep the door closed, but it does not lock it. Still one of the best things about a hasp and staple is just how easy it is to add a padlock.
If you do have some particularly awesome tools, gardening equipment or some kind of epic collectables then you do not want them to be on show to potential thieves, then you may want to add something to cover those windows like a set of curtains or even some blinds, this will keep, people’s peepers from being able to peep inside.
Customisation Options And Extras
If you did want to add a little bit of personality to this shed then perhaps some hanging basket along the side would do this? Or perhaps you could even give it a rather bright or even dark and gloomy coating of paint.
Two extras are available with this shed and to be honest with you neither of them are essential, but we will tell you about them in case you are interested. First of all is a plastic shed base which can be handy if the surface you will be installing the shed on is concerning you a little bit. This though does cost £119.99, which is a little under half the price of the actual shed. They also have a hasp and padlock set which is £19.99 – the reason for this being the price it is, is because it is a Yale branded hasp and padlock.
With the wood being pressure treated the whole shed has had its overall quality kicked up a few notches.
Longevity of Materials 8.5/10
You are going to be able to use this shed for many years to come. Not just because the wood has been pressure treated, but also because of how well selected and made the materials are.
For a mid sized shed, you are getting quite a bit of storage space here. If you really make use of all the space it offers you. Then you will find that you can really store a lot of items inside here.
Ease of Installation 8.5/10
As long as the person who is helping you is at least half decent at DIY, you should not have any major headaches putting this together. Detailed instructions will be included so just do what they say and we are sure you will be fine.
We feel that this is a shed that really is great value for money. It offers a decent amount of space and the pressure treated wood is going to ensure you certainly get your money’s worth out of the shed.
Final Thoughts: The Hartwood 7' x 5' FSC Pressure Treated Overlap Pent Shed really is one solid and long lasting shed that impressed us in many ways. The pressure treated wood has a really great look to it and of course it is also going to last a long time. While the shed is well made and of course very strong it also has a look that we just love. They have gone for a real, we hate to say it, but manly rough and ready type of look that works very well. We really like this shed and if you want something that has a bit of an edgy look to it then we highly recommend you seriously think about this.
