Summerhouse Type And Roof Size
The front of the Hartwood Tetbury 7′ x 5′ FSC Overlap Apex Pressure Treated Summerhouse makes this one of the most attractive and charming compact sized summerhouses that we have ever seen. If this is in your garden and you can keep doing your yard work, resisting the temptation to just ditch it and then relax in here for an hour or two then you are a better person than us. The summerhouse is a rather decent 7 feet 3 inches in its width, but with the depth being, 5 feet 9 inches the summerhouse really does not take up all that much space. The height of the structure we feel makes it seem far larger than it actually is as it stands at a very impressive 7 feet 4 inches, of course this is the ridge height and along the eaves it is a little over a foot smaller, but in general the headroom provided by this summerhouse is something we are very happy with.
We just love the apex roof that they have used for this summerhouse. At first glance this does have the look of just a regular apex roof. But what makes this standout from a regular roof is that there is this lovely little overhang that you may miss at first glance, but once you notice it, we are sure you are going to love it. The design of the roof forces the rain to always run off at the sides and as it is comprised of solid sheet boarding and covered in felt, you have no worries about the roof getting weak as the years go by.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
Overlap cladding has been used here and as it has undergone a rather intense pressure treatment process it is extra strong and resistant to damage. One of the things that we really love about this kind of cladding is how it has such an old school and almost rustic kind of look to it. This certainly gives the summerhouse a great deal of personality.
We are very happy with the frame that they have used for this summerhouse. As you can see from the pictures, the frame is a good thickness, but not overly bulky so that it gets in the way. They have made sure the whole summerhouse is watertight and extra robust by making the cladding secure to the frame very tightly.
Like the roof, solid sheet boarding is what is used for the floor. This is easily the best kind of flooring that you can get at this price point. It is strong, long lasting and thanks to the floor joists underneath it is going to be able to take a vast amount of weight. A heavy chair, some shelving and even a mini fridge stocked with all your favourite alcoholic beverages will be no trouble for this floor.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
As all of the wood has been pressure treated, this is actually a very low maintenance summerhouse. The pressure treatment process makes the wood very strong, resistant to rot and also eliminates the need to treat the summerhouse on an annual basis. If you did decide you wanted to give it a coating of wood treatment then more power to you and it will not do any harm.
The Hartwood Tetbury 7′ x 5′ FSC Overlap Apex Pressure Treated Summerhouse does come with a 15 year anti rot guarantee, which we feel is one of the better guarantees that we have seen with a summerhouse.
Doors And Windows
Even though this is not one of the larger summerhouses we have seen, it does still have one very impressive set of large double doors. These things just have a real epic look to them and when they are open they really do make the structure look huge. The doors are made very well and with the strong hinges that they have used, you will have no problems with the doors sagging. The large size of these doors means that even larger furniture is going to be able to be brought into the summerhouse easily.
The front of the summerhouse is very open as those doors have large windows on them. Interestingly while most other summerhouses of this size would leave it at that, this one takes things a step further by having another two large windows next to the door. The windows are made from anti shatter styrene which will be very handy if you have kids. Normally we would like to see at least one window on the side of the building, but actually we feel all the windows on the front more than make up for this.
Security And Privacy
On the double doors there is a pad bolt that is going to stop those doors from swinging open in the wind. We really like this as it is much more secure than a simple turn button. Still if you did want to keep something more expensive inside here, like a little TV for example, then we would suggest you consider adding a padlock or something similar.
As most of the front of the summerhouse is made up of windows, you will not exactly have a whole lot of privacy if you have this facing your neighbour’s house, but as all of the windows are on the front, the privacy you get depends on where you place this in your garden. We do feel that a set of blinds on the windows would not just help give you some extra privacy, but also give the summerhouse a bit more charm as well.
Customisation Options And Extras
To be honest with you, there is not really a whole lot you can do to change the way the outside of the summerhouse looks, but that really does not matter as the fun with something like this is customising the inside so it is your dream place to come and relax for a few hours.
There is only one extra that is available for this summerhouse and that is a plastic base. This is actually a very well made base and would certainly help give you a more firm place to install the summerhouse if you are going to be placing it on grass, but it does cost £119.99, so does add a fair bit to the overall price. If you are installing this on concrete or decking, then it is not even worth thinking about.
We are very pleased with the quality of this summerhouse all throughout. They have made some very clever, cost effective and pretty cool design choices.
Longevity of Materials 8.5/10
With all of the timber going through a pressure treatment process this is a summerhouse that is going to be with you for a very long time.
While on the small size, this is a summerhouse that is clearly aimed at smaller gardens. Still you will have to be a little bit crafty with how you organise things so you get the most out of the space you have available.
Ease of Installation 8.5/10
With a friend or family member who you can tolerate for around 4-6 hours, installing this should be a fun experience. It is not overly testing - think of it as more fiddly than hard.
While the price may seem a little high considering the size, with the wood being pressure treated and the very classy design, we do feel that this is actually very good value for money.
Final Thoughts: The Hartwood Tetbury 7' x 5' FSC Overlap Apex Pressure Treated Summerhouse is one very elegant and smart looking summerhouse that has really impressed us. They have made this so that even smaller gardens are going to be able to enjoy it and with the price being what it is, we feel that even those on a more modest budget will be able to enjoy this. As far as compact sized summerhouse go this one right here is one of the more classy and better made ones that we have seen. If you are looking for that extra special place to sit and relax then we are sure you are going to be very pleased with this.
