Summerhouse Type And Roof Size
Here we have a very interesting summerhouse that has been designed for those of you who perhaps do not have a huge garden or even those of you who would like to add a little extra space to your homes, but do not want to spend a fortune in order to do so. The Lumley 7X5 Shiplap Timber Summerhouse may not be huge in its stature, but it makes up for this in its personality. Also while the dimensions may not be large, you can if you are a little bit crafty with how you organise your belongings, make this space go a very long way. Speaking of the dimensions the width of this summerhouse is 6 feet 7 with the width of just a hair over 5 feet. Height wise we are happy with what they are offering as along the ridge there is 6 feet 9 inches of headroom. So unless you are a person who stands toe to toe with Mr Tall from the Mr Men, you should not have to hunch over while you are in here.
They have gone for an apex roof that is comprised of solid sheet boarding which was what we expected to see in here. This kind of roofing is perfect for these, lower priced summerhouses as it keeps the cost down, but it also keeps the water out. There is a lovely veranda that sticks out fairly far which helps add to the charm. Covering this is roofing felt which while not the most exciting part of the summerhouse, actually has a very appealing look to it.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
The tongue and groove shiplap cladding used for the walls is something we really like. The cladding is just so smooth and seamless and we are frankly a little bit surprised that they were able to use it at this price point. The cladding we can assure you is going to keep the harsh weather out and look very stylish while doing it we might add.
34 mm x 34 mm framing is what is keeping all of this together and we really could not be any more happy with this. This is one very sturdy frame that really will do its job well and it is not so large that when you are walking around in here after a few glasses of wine, you will stub your toe on it and spill your drink.
Ok so call us jaded, but we totally expected to see regular, solid sheet boarding used for the floor inside this summerhouse. But we are always more than happy to admit when we are wrong and wrong we were in the best way as the flooring inside of here is tongue and groove flooring which has a nice smooth look to it and it is also able to take a lot of weight so do not be scared to put a very fancy table and chairs inside of here and a wine cooler filled with the good stuff.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
A basic coating of treatment is going to be applied to all of the timber and will look after this during the delivery and the installation. For long term protection though, you will have to get a tub of wood treatment and give it a generous coating yourself. This is something the majority of summerhouses require these days and like those other ones, annual treatment is required to keep the wood rot free.
A ten year anti rot guarantee comes with the summerhouse, but this only comes into play as long as you treat the wood.
Doors And Windows
Even though this is something of a more compact sized summerhouse, they have still made sure that the Lumley 7X5 Shiplap Timber Summerhouse comes with double doors. These are large double doors to make getting in and out very easy and they have a great look thanks to them having huge windows in them. Closing the doors is easy thanks to the very retro looking hasp and staple they have. Longevity wise, we are sure these doors will not sag over the years thanks to the hinges they have used.
The only windows that are on the summerhouse are the ones that are on the doors. To be fair we could slate the summerhouse for this, but this is a smaller sized structure so having large toughened glass windows on the door we feel was a smart way to get light into the summerhouse without raising the price. Still we really would have liked to have seen at least one window, even a small one be placed on the side of the summerhouse.
Security And Privacy
That classic looking hasp and staple to close the door is pretty awesome, but it is not going to stop someone coming in and taking your TV. It does close the door securely, but if you do want to ensure your belongings are kept safe then a nice big padlock should be added to the hasp and staple.
With the only windows being the two which are on the doors, this summerhouse is one that is going to offer you a lot of privacy. Blinds, curtains or even netting would make it very hard for a nosey neighbour to have a look inside.
Customisation Options And Extras
While some of the pictures may show this in a variety of colours this will be sent your way unpainted. Personally we feel that the look of the wood is just incredible and some clear wood treatment would be fine. However if you did want to change things up a little then you can always paint it something a little more extravagant like the one pictured which is in blue.
This is a low priced summerhouse and to be honest apart from the things you will be putting inside, a padlock is the only thing that you really need to consider adding as an extra. But just pop to your local pound store and get one there.
Even with the reasonable price, this summerhouse is still made with high quality materials and done in a way that makes it stand out in a very positive way.
Longevity of Materials 8.5/10
The compact design along with that solid, 34 mm x 34 mm frame makes this one very robust structure. You are going to be able to use this for many years and as long as you treat that wood it is going to stay rot free.
This is one of the smallest summerhouse on the market right now so you will either have to make a few sacrifices in what you put in here or be very smart with your layout.
Ease of Installation 10/10
An installation service is actually included with the price of this so do not worry about getting injured or putting a door on upside down when installing it as it will be done by people who know what they are doing.
Consider this comes with an installation service, we really do feel that this is being sold for a fantastic price.
Final Thoughts: The Lumley 7X5 Shiplap Timber Summerhouse really is a very stylish, fun and well made summerhouse that you are going to get many years of enjoyment out of. The size may be on the small side, but we feel this is actually something that it has over other summerhouses as those impressively huge summerhouse cannot fit in a small garden, but it is a safe bet this one can. We feel that the price they are asking for this is very fair indeed, especially as they are including their installation service. In all this is a summerhouse that has clearly been made to last, it has an attractive design and we are sure you will get a lot of fun out of it.
