Shed Type, Roof and Size
This is a traditional, basic storage shed in that it is a decent size (10 x 6) and it has a number of features that make it a great place to store your items with privacy and security. The measurements are 202 cm in width and 297.4 cm in depth. This gives you a reasonably spacious interior to store a number of tools and some garden machinery.
The roof is apex in style, and it’s attractive and traditional-looking. Inside that roof there is solid sheet material. This gives you a good covering for the building, with a decent amount of weight and solidity. The sand felt that is used for a covering provides a dense barrier against rain.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
You get overlap cladding with this shed. This is basic cladding, and is not very expensive to create. The nature of the cladding means that it literally overlaps, with planks of timber wrapping over each other. This provides plenty of protection against rain, which cannot penetrate the dense folds of wood.
One key advantage here to overlap is that it looks great. If you’re looking for a rustic, traditional feel for the building, this cladding really adds value.
BillyOh has added extra framing to the panels, so you have a thicker and stronger building overall. We liked this aspect, and we were pleased to see it on a shed at this price. It just means you have a more robust building, with none of that slight sway or ‘wobble’ feeling you have with more basic sheds.
As with many BillyOh buildings, you have the opportunity to choose your own floor. If you are a DIY enthusiast and you’ve planned ahead, you can opt for no flooring. Otherwise, you can purchase solid sheet flooring, which looks great and is pretty strong underfoot. The issue here is usage. If you are looking at storing heavier items or having a lot of footfall, we would recommend the tongue and groove option instead. Tongue and groove flooring has that extra edge in that it is tougher and more robust. Timber panels lock together to provide a smooth, solid surface with no join. That makes for a better floor over time. And it doesn’t cost much more so it is well worth investigating.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
Unfortunately, no treatment is supplied at all. This means you have to treat it as soon as you take delivery. There are plenty of oil-based treatments available in stores or online, and as long as you get this treatment applied before you start putting the panels together, you should be fine. Then, simply treat the building annually.
There is a 10-year guarantee, but this will be directly affected if you don’t treat annually. Neglect this aspect and you can expect the guarantee to be void.
Doors and Windows
No windows are supplied, as this is a security shed. Having a windowless building is a plus for privacy, and it will also stop opportunist thieves.
The wide and heavy double doors open up to 166.5 cm. This a generous doorway and provides good access.
Security and Privacy
Windowless means more privacy, and it also goes a long way to ensuring that thieves literally don’t get a look in. But there is no lock provided or even a small turn button, and this is a little disappointing. To remedy this, purchase the lock and protector that BillyOh offers as an extra.
Customisation Options and Extras
As you may expect with such a low cost item, there are plenty of extras here to consider. One of the key options is guttering. It pays to fit guttering to a shed if you can, because you can collect the water. Some people collect it in water butts and use that water for their plants, for example. Or you can just collect it to be drained away. It adds to the shed’s defences against damp too.
You can also opt to have shelving in the building, and we like this idea because it gives you more possibilities for storage. It’s not a small shed by any means, but having shelving throughout just gives it that extra edge.
Another pleasing feature is the ability to have your building in the colours you want. You can have paint for the trim and the walls, and here there is a real opportunity to bring your personal style to the building.
The rustic overlap cladding gives some solidity, and the solid sheet roof and covering felt provide more protection against wet weather. This is a solid shed overall.
Longevity Of Materials
You will need to ensure that you set up a proper treatment schedule and that you treat it as soon as you take delivery. Overlap cladding is decent stuff, but without treatment it will simply wear away. Opt for the tongue and groove floor to enhance the longevity.
A good-sized shed that will be enhanced even further if you opt for shelving to be included as an optional extra. We think this will add that extra bit of storage that makes for a ‘10’ core.
Ease Of Installation
This building won’t take long to install if there are a couple of you working on it. The need for treatment will slow the process down though.
This is a good, standard shed. The security aspect with the windowless feature is good, and we like the size of the building. It really comes alive when you customise it though.
Final Thoughts: This sometimes feels like a ‘standard’ shed, and we think the customisation option is the way to make this building became a truly viable structure. However, some of the base features, such as the solid sheet roof and the rustic look of the overlap cladding, are attractive and useful.
There is also that windowless aspect, which means that you have a private building. If a lock had been supplied this would have been perfect. But you can buy one as an extra anyway.
The space is good, and we can easily see a large amount of tools and equipment being stored in here comfortably. For that reason, it is a good buy.
