Shed Type and Roof and Size
This is a workman’s hut and storage building that measures 294.7 cm in width. The building measures 251.8 cm in depth. Internally, that width goes down to 240 cm. The depth reduces down to 293 cm.
The roof on the building is a reverse apex roof, which means that you have a roof that allows windows and doors to be on the side of the building. This allows you some more flexibility as regards your positioning the building in the garden. More importantly from our point of view, the roof has been created using tongue and groove construction techniques. This gives you a much stronger roof, and also a roof that has watertight technology built in.
The excitement is dampened somewhat when you realise that mineral felt has been used on the roof. This is by no means a poor quality covering, but for this price we would have expected a different covering perhaps.
Cladding and frame and floor
The cladding on this building is uniformly excellent. Planks of wood are locked together using tongue and groove technology to create flawless and watertight planks for your cladding. This also builds a massive amount of strength into your building, so you not only get a watertight building, at least on the walls, but also a building that is stronger and tougher than other buildings of this size. It’s a good investment into the build quality, and the manufacturer ought to be applauded for it.
The manufacturer has given you a couple of options as regards flooring. You can either choose a solid sheet flooring option, which we think is nowhere near what this building demands, or you can opt for the tongue and groove. No prizes for guessing that we would like you to go for the tongue and groove, it just makes your building stronger and more robust. And it also insures that the floor will not bend or warp throughout the lifetime of the building.
Treatment requirement and warranty
Treatment has been applied at the factory, so you’re going to get a building that is ready to go as regards treatment and also gives you reassurance that you have a building that will last. You don’t have to get involved in the treatment straight away, and this cuts down on time and cost.
Doors and windows
This is a windowless security shed, so you have more security at the expense of windows. However, we think this is a good aspect of the building, and it adds to the overall value.
Security and privacy
We were pleased to see a padbolt locking system in place. This means that the manufacturer has thought about your wishes as a customer, and there is therefore more security built-in from the outset. The windowless aspect of the building adds to that security of course.
When it comes to customisation, you’re almost spoilt for choice. You can obviously choose the floor, as we mentioned earlier. But in addition to this, you also get to choose guttering for the building. We wholeheartedly recommend that you do choose guttering for the building, because it adds a massive amount of durability. Rainwater will be even less of an issue, and there will be less possibility of damp affecting the building. It’s an obvious choice, and a great investment that you should be investigating.
In addition to this, you can also choose shelving for your building. Considering that this is a storage unit, this makes perfect sense. We recommend that you do purchase some shelving, and use it to enhance the storage capacity of the unit. You can also colour the building in the colours that you wish, in the trim and on the walls. This is an excellent option, and the colours that the manufacturer supplies are vibrant and allow you to put your own individual spin on the building.
In addition to this, you can also purchase padlocks and protectors to make sure that your building is secure. There are plenty of customisation options here, and you should find it quite good fun to choose.
We were not that impressed with the roof to be honest, but the rest of the building matches up very well. Take the roof out of the equation and you have a very strong building here, and one that is also very secure as well. Its quality pretty much all the way.
Longevity Of Materials 8/10
The longevity is affected a little bit by the roof, but if you choose to buy the guttering as one of the customisation options, you should find that the building will last a lot longer. Opt also for tongue and groove flooring and you’re well away.
No problems here at all. There is ample space inside the building for the storage requirements of the average gardener. It’s not huge, but it will almost certainly do the job.
Ease Of Installation 8/10
If you can’t get a craftsman to do the job for you, get at least two people on the job. There are easy and simple to follow instructions.
Overall, we think this is good value for money. It's a little bit pricey to not have a decent roof on it, but we won’t grumble about that, because we think you should focus on buying some of the extras and adding even more value to the building. Overall, it's large and it is spacious.
Final Thoughts: This is very much an entry-level model, even at this price. You can add a lot as regards customisation and this makes a big difference. Plenty of options, and some good work on the cladding and other aspects, make this building a good value purchase.
