Review By:

With a very smart design, the Wickes Buckingham Summerhouse 7 X 7 is one very attractive looking small summer house that would be just ideal for a smaller garden or those with a stricter budget. This is a very modern looking summerhouse with its apex roof that has an overhang, large double doors with windows and extra window on the side. The summerhouse is certainly going to be a major feature of your garden. The rather compact size means that while it does not take up a lot of space in the garden, if you plan it just right, you can make this space go a very long way.

Even though this has a rather low price, Wickes have still used some impressive materials with this summerhouse. The wall cladding is tongue and groove shiplap cladding which as you can see, looks fantastic. This is backed up by a very thick frame that will make this small summer house very strong and long lasting. Tongue and groove boarding is used for the floor which will be able to handle a lot of weight and it also goes very well with the design of the summerhouse. In all, Wickes have done a very good job in using good quality materials all the while keeping the price down.

Let's Take a Closer Look...

Summerhouse Type And Roof Size

Wickes Buckingham Summerhouse 7 X 7 Summerhouse Type And Roof SizeThe Wickes Buckingham Summerhouse 7 X 7 is a great looking small summer house that also has a very reasonable price. This is what we would class as a budget priced summerhouse and to be honest with you, even though the price is low this is still a very well made structure for the price. To start with this is a decent size for those who do not have a huge garden. Inside the summerhouse you have 6 feet 4 inches of depth and 6 feet 7 inches of width, with the actual structure taking up about 7 feet of floor space in both the width and depth. This does make it a little snug inside, but with some clever planning you can make this space go a very long way. The height of the summerhouse is 6 feet 8 inches which is not too shabby at all.

Wickes have gone for an apex roof and we really like this. The rain is going to run off at the sides and the overhang will give the front of the summerhouse a little bit of protection. The boarding inside the summerhouse has been covered by some roofing felt which is a little on the thin side. So while it will protect the boards from rain, just be careful when you are installing it so you do not rip it.

Cladding, Frame And Floor

This is one very nice looking small summer house and one of the things that we feel catches your eye first is the cladding. The Wickes Buckingham Summerhouse 7 X 7 uses some quite thick tongue and groove shiplap cladding. This type of cladding is very good at not allowing rain inside as it interlocks together so there is no little spaces for water to get inside.

Just behind the cladding stands the framing which keeps it all together. The frame that Wickes have used is 34 mm x 34 mm and that is a very solid frame for a summerhouse of this size. We thought that they may have cut corners here and had a smaller frame, but the fact they went all out with a frame as thick as this is very impressive. The frame will really help make this a robust structure.

You may need to look really hard, but if you do you can see in the pictures that the floor is made with tongue and groove boarding. This is great as it makes for a very strong floor that can take quite a lot of weight. The floor will feel solid under your feet and from an aesthetic point of view, this kind of boarding goes great with the walls and the overall design of the summerhouse.

Treatment Requirement And Warranty

As you can see this is one lovely looking small summer house and if you look after the wood right it will stay good looking for many, many years. The wood will only be dip treated so you will want to give it a coating of wood treatment shortly after you have installed it. Then on an annual basis, you should give it another coating. You do this and you will never have a problem with rot and decay.

The Wickes Buckingham Summerhouse 7 X 7 does not actually tell you what kind of warranty it comes with. But most of the other sheds, summerhouses and other garden buildings that Wickes offer come with a one year manufacturers guarantee so we would think this one would be the same. Still you may want to inquire about this before you order.

Doors And Windows

On the front of the structure there is a set of large double doors. We love the design of these doors and feel that the cladding along with the large windows really does make this an inviting looking structure. As you can see in the picture with both doors open, you will have plenty of space to get inside the summerhouse.

Even though this is what we would class as a small summer house, there are still a decent amount of windows on here. There are three styrene windows if you include the two on the doors. There is also a window on one of the sides which is a very good size. These windows will let in plenty of natural light, but we do wish that the one on the side could be opened. Still at this price though, we can understand why they went with a fixed window.

Security And Privacy

The Wickes Buckingham Summerhouse 7 X 7 has a really smart looking mortice lock. We really love how old timey this looks and it is certainly going to keep those large double doors closed. However we feel that if you are going to put expensive things in here, then you may want to consider adding a padlock or pad bolt.

While the windows are fairly large, this does actually offer you a fair bit of privacy. The framing on the windows gives a little bit more privacy than if they were just full on styrene. Plus as only one of the sides has a window you could always position the summerhouse so the windows are not facing the street or the neighbours.

Customisation Options And Extras

Wickes are not offering any customisation options with this summerhouse. But if you wanted to give it a bit more life or just a touch of your own personality, then consider using a wood treatment that is coloured. Also that overhang would look great with some kind of decoration like wind chimes or a dreamcatcher, for example.

Wickes sell pretty much everything, so we were actually pretty surprised to see that they are offering no extras with the Wickes Buckingham Summerhouse 7 X 7. To be fair there is not really anything that we think you would want to add to this small summer house. At the most a padlock, but they can be picked up from your local pound shop.

So, How Does It All Stack Up?

You have to keep in mind that this is a budget priced summerhouse, but still overall we are impressed with the quality. As is the case with all summerhouse of this price range, we wish a few things were different, but for the most part, we feel they have done a good job here.

This is one strong and well made structure, but to keep it free from rot, you will need to take care of the wood with an annual coating of treatment.
Storage Size 7/10

You do not have the largest summerhouse on your hands here, but this is made for smaller gardens and actually you can still fit in a table, chairs and some other pieces of furniture as well inside here.
Ease Of Installation 8.5/10

You will need to persuade a buddy to help you install this, but you are looking at around 6 hours at the most. This is not all that hard to install and as long as you can tell the difference between a hammer and a screwdriver you will be fine.
Value For Money 8/10

The price we feel is fantastic, but they did take a couple of shortcuts to keep the price down. We are not knocking them for this though as we still feel this is very good value for money.
8.1
Overall Score
Final Thoughts: The Wickes Buckingham Summerhouse 7 X 7 is one very cool looking small summer house. Its compact size can actually go quite far if you plan things out just right. Wickes have done a great job with this and for the price we feel that it is very well made. There are of course a couple of things that may not be of the highest quality here, but overall as far as budget priced summerhouses go, we are happy with what they have done here. This is a summerhouse that would be ideal for those of you who do not have a large garden or who have a limited budget.
