Shed Type and Roof Size
This is an extremely high quality, impressive wooden garage, with a front-open design. It benefits from a very smart, professional appearance and comes with a reverse apex roof. This means you benefit from a unique style, whilst still receiving the same great water-resistant benefits. The rain will run directly down off the front and rear of the building. The roof also has a slight overhang which means rainwater won’t touch the timber at the back or sides of the garage, helping to boost its rot resistance. The shingles that you see on the picture are not included with the cost and will need to be bought separately. More information on the shingle types and their benefits can be found further down this review under the ‘Customisation Options and Extras’ section. As standard, it comes with heavy duty sand felt.
This is a very large garage and it measures an incredible 6.02m in depth and 6m in width. So you will need a very large area to construct it. The height of the building is also really impressive at 3.70m tall.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
The garage is constructed with very high quality timber. You can tell just by looking at the building that it has an incredibly strong, solid build. It even features chalet joint connections which help to boost its strength, as well as adding a great aesthetic appeal. It benefits from tongue and groove cladding which is known for both its strength and practical benefits. Tongue and groove style cladding also leaves an expansion gap which accounts for any slight changes which may occur in the timber over the seasons. Without this gap, changes in the wood due to moisture or heat can potentially cause stability problems. The cladding is also strong enough to accommodate the weight of interior shelving. So you also have the potential to store your car cleaning essentials if needed.
The construction of the garage has helped to give it a solid, wind-proof design. Whilst the front of the building is completely open, the sides and back of the garage provide exceptional protection against the elements all year round. So you can rest assured that your cars will remain safe and dry whatever the weather.
Whilst the garage doesn’t have any doors, there is a large support beam in the centre of the building. This very thick beam helps to provide great strength to the overall construction and its frame is also created with thick high quality timber.
You should be aware that like many garages, this one doesn’t come with a floor. It absolutely needs to be built on top of a solid, concrete base. This may pose a problem for those who only have a large lawn to build it on. What you’ll need to do if you do only have grass, is to invest in paving slabs or concrete over the area. Obviously this will increase the cost so that is something you need to keep in mind.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
One thing Waltons advertise with this garage is the fact it requires very little maintenance. This is definitely a big advantage if you’re hoping to spend as little time as possible maintaining the building. It will require a high quality timber preservative to be applied after it’s been built. If you use a spirit based treatment however, you might not have to reapply the treatment every year. Some provide much longer protection than others so this is something you should look into before choosing the best treatment for the building.
Spirit based treatments are highly recommended. They penetrate into the timber, forming a deep internal barrier against rainwater. The company doesn’t provide any information on a warranty with this garage. However, due to the high quality build of the garage, this shouldn’t be much of a concern provided you treat it with a high quality preservative.
Doors and Windows
This impressive garage doesn’t come with any doors which we feel is a massive benefit. You can literally just drive into the building without worrying about getting out and opening the doors. This easy access is also great for getting out when you’re in a rush. Whilst there is a support beam in the centre of the garage, the spaces on either side are extremely wide, making it a comfortable fit for even the largest family vehicles.
The open design also means there are no windows. Plenty of light gets in through the front so you don’t even need to install an electrical pack to supply lighting. This saves you quite a lot of money not only on the purchase of a pack, but also on the long term running costs that would come with it.
Security and Privacy
Now obviously as the front is completely open, the security of the garage may be a concern. However, what you need to remember is that your vehicle will be a lot safer in this building than it would out on the street. A thief is much less likely to try and steal your car when it is stored in the garage, on your property.
Obviously there also isn’t any privacy from the front of the building. So everyone will be able to see what type of cars are being stored.
Customisation Options and Extras
Due to the high cost of the garage you’ll be pleased to know there is just one extra available. This comes in the form of shingles. Now these are expensive, but they will provide an extremely attractive design, not to mention the level of protection against rainwater they provide.
Shingles are basically a type of roof tile that provides a nice, textured design. They are exceptionally easy to install and come with self-adhesive benefits. Waltons give you the choice of either green or charcoal coloured shingles and they come with 14 packs which is just enough to cover this size building.
You won’t find a better quality garage with the same design as this one. Waltons have really outdone themselves with this stylish, elegant building. The high quality timber used will last for many years.
Longevity Of Materials 10/10
What we love about this garage is the fact that the timber is naturally long lasting. It requires very minimum maintenance which is unusual for an outdoor wooden building.
Another high scorer in our ratings, this building is huge. It is wider and deeper than most garages out there and provides an excellent amount of space for two large vehicles. The fact it doesn’t have doors also adds to its storage space.
Ease Of Installation 8/10
There are just two reasons why we couldn’t give this 10/10 for installation. Firstly, it is massive. The sheer size of the garage means you will spend a lot of time putting it together. We’d suggest giving yourself a time frame of up to 2 days. Secondly, the panels are very heavy. So there is a lot of hard labour involved. However, the lack of doors and windows make it very straight forward to assemble.
As much as we love this garage, we can’t ignore the fact that it comes at a really high cost. That’s the only thing that dropped the rating down. As it doesn’t require much maintenance you do save a lot of money there. Then there’s the fact that you save money on electricity as you won’t need to install an electrical pack. However, it is advised you purchase the shingles which aren’t cheap. So whilst it does provide great value for money in the long term, initially it is an expensive garage to invest in.
Final Thoughts: If you have the budget, this is a really attractive and unique garage that will help to keep your vehicles safe all year round. Created with high quality timber, the building is strong, wind-proof and with yearly treatments it will be fully protected against the elements. This is an expensive building but you are paying for exceptional quality and durability. The fact it has been designed to withstand even the harshest weathers is definitely an advantage. Though it will take the cost of the garage up a little, we do recommend you invest in the shingles to ensure your cars are 100% protected.
