Shed Type and Roof Size
This is a large metal garage that can also be used as a storage space or workshop. Easily capable of storing a car or van and a motorbike, it is a good sized building that will suit most family’s needs. It is constructed with an apex roof to boost water protection and provide a larger amount of headspace inside the garage. All rainwater is directed down and away from the building, greatly reducing the risk of rust. We also find this roof style provides a more attractive and stylish aspect, making it a great addition to the home.
The roof measures in at 2.06m and its depth is especially large at 6.2m. Width wise it is the same as most garages at 3m, while the doors offer a spacious entry, measuring 2.30m wide and 1.78m tall.
Cladding Frame and Floor
The metal cladding has been built using high-end Bluescope steel and each panel has further been coated with a white Titanium colourbond finish. This basically provides an exceptional level of rust protection, as well as a barrier against the weather. What makes this range of buildings so unique is the fact that they have also been wind tested. The garage can withstand winds reaching up to 147 mph. However, if you’re trying to assemble it in windy conditions this definitely isn’t the impression you get. What the company doesn’t make overly clear is that the building does need to be tied down to the base with an anchor kit. So if you want to benefit from the wind proof design, you will need to spend a little extra money.
The frame is made with aluminium which has the benefit of being lightweight whilst still managing to provide a very reliable and sturdy support for the rest of the building. This is also rust proof and poses no risk of corrosion over the years.
You will not receive a floor with this garage so it absolutely needs to be assembled on top of a solid and even surface. We recommend concrete, though paving slabs will work provided they are properly levelled. The advantage of not having a floor is that vehicles can be stored, along with heavy machinery without the risk of causing damage.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
No paints or treatments are needed to keep this garage protected. It is designed in such a way that it naturally has a high level of rust, corrosion, wind and weather resistance. This is excellent news for your wallet. It also makes this an ideal building for those who really don’t want to spend time and effort applying treatments every year.
To top it off, you are provided with an incredible 30 year written warranty that guarantees the building against corrosion and rust.
Doors and Windows
We especially like the design of the doors on this garage. As you would typically expect, it does come with double doors which provide generous space to move vehicles in and out of the building. However, the doors on this model have the added benefit of being reinforced and they have an extra-wide design. Unlike a lot of similar sized garages, the doors of this building almost take up the entire front of the garage. So you will never have to worry about having enough space to manoeuvre your vehicles in and out of the building.
Another very useful feature of this garage is that it doesn’t come with windows. The windowless models are exceptionally good for ensuring maximum privacy and helping to minimise the risk of theft. Your vehicle and any equipment you are storing isn’t on view so potential thieves won’t be as tempted to break in. Of course the downside to this windowless design is that it doesn’t provide natural lighting. This isn’t a problem during daylight hours when the doors are open. But it does limit its use during winter and at night. If this is a problem you will need to purchase an electrical kit.
Security and Privacy
This is a very secure and private building which helps to give you peace of mind no matter what you plan on using it for. The actual construction of the garage provides a great initial barrier against thieves as it will not be easy to break into. The doors also come with a reinforced design to make them sturdier and harder to break. Security is then enhanced with a pad-bolt to ensure you are the only person who can access the garage.
We also like that it has a fully private design thanks to the no-window feature. This leaves you safe in the knowledge that all of your storage will be safe and protected all year round.
Customisation Options and Extras
The good news is there is just one additional extra you will need to add onto the cost of the building. This is the Absco anchor kit. It is used to attach the frame of the building directly onto the concrete or paving slabs below. It literally anchors the garage to the floor, making sure there is no way it could ever blow over.
Now while this is obviously a useful extra, we find it a little confusing that it is actually needed. It isn’t just an optional extra, it’s something that is listed by the company as being required. However, the manufacturer claims that the building is windproof up to speeds of 147 mph. So it begs the question, if it is designed to withstand such high wind speeds, why does it need to be anchored down? Shouldn’t it come with an anchor kit if this is the thing that makes it withstand high winds? That said, it isn’t overly expensive to buy, it just seems like false advertising when you’re having to buy extra products in order to benefit from its wind-proof design.
There’s no faulting the actual quality of this building. The materials have obviously been treated to last and plenty of care has been taken to ensure it provides exceptional quality inside and out.
Longevity Of Materials 8.2/10
We do feel the 30 year written warranty is exceptionally good and the longevity of materials is great. However, as mentioned in the review, you do need an anchor kit to keep the building fully secure in windy conditions.
This is a wide, tall building so it gives you a lot of potential storage space. If you’re using it as a garage, the fact you can store a bike as well as a car is a huge benefit compared to a lot of other garages.
Ease Of Installation 8/10
The installation method is simple, but the amount of time it takes is pretty disappointing. It is slightly misleading that the company claims it benefits from quick and easy assembly. However, overall providing you account for the amount of time it will realistically take, it is a fairly straightforward garage to build. Just don’t attempt to put it up in windy conditions.
We find the cost of this large garage pretty reasonable considering the amount of space and durability you get. The zero maintenance element of it also saves quite a lot of money over the years.
Final Thoughts: There are good points and bad points with this garage. While it definitely has more pros than cons, it’s still important to be aware of the disadvantages before you decide whether it is the right model for you. It isn’t a huge deal that you have to buy a separate anchor kit, but it does somewhat discredit the manufacturer’s claims about just how weather-proof it is. However, it does offer supreme quality and the 30 year guarantee is a huge peace of mind.
