Shed Type & Roof Size
We love a classic apex roof design on a shed. Not only does it give it a really cool look from the outside, inside you have a very high point in the middle of the shed. The high point of this shed is a monstrous 7 feet 3 inches high! Even at the eaves you still have a very good, 5 feet, 5 inches of height! We think that most people when they first go inside their new shed will think “what on earth am I going to do with all this space?” and we mean that in a good way! Being able to walk around your shed without hunching over all the time like you are Quasimodo is something that is very nice indeed.
The overall size you have when you are in the shed is pretty mind incredible. The internal depth is 9 feet 6 inches with the internal width coming in at 7 feet 6 inches. This is the kind of shed where (thanks to the shiplap tongue and groove cladding) where you can have a bunch of shelves on the walls, worktables along the side and still have a ton of space for storage and working in the middle of the shed. If you have kids then you will be able to store all their summer toys that take over your garden every summer and still have room for all your tools and gardening items! We are honestly struggling to think of something that you would have a hard time being able to store in this shed.
A good shed as well as offering storage should look nice in your garden as well. The apex roof just makes the shed really look nice, but what makes it so special is that it is actually built with 12 mm thick tongue and groove wood. This is a cut above the usual wood that is used in most sheds and will take the weight of some heavy duty snow and thanks to the mineral roofing felt will keep all the rain out and your “treasured” items……. Or your random junk nice and safe.
Cladding, Frame & Floor
The 10 x 8 Waltons Windowless Groundsman Tongue and Groove Apex Garden Shed is strong…. We are talking so strong that if it were one of the Avengers it would be The Hulk! This is because of that glorious, 12 mm thick shiplap tongue and groove cladding. This stuff may make the price of the shed go up just a wee bit, but it is more than worth it as it is just so strong and because of its interlocking design keeps all the rain outside and will make sure the water does not “sit” on it and just rolls right off. Shiplap tongue and groove cladding as well as being very practical also has a very “high quality” look to it which will make this shed a very prominent feature in your garden.
For the frame, Waltons are using their 45 X 27 mm thick framing which on its own is rather strong, but to really make it that extra bit tough there are the double framed corners. We just love these double framed corners as they make the shed just so much more sturdy. Your kid could run into this thing and they would just bounce right off it…… not that we are saying we want that to happen of course. But the framing of this shed is certainly built so that it can take a bit of abuse if you do have kids.
In designing this shed we feel that Waltons clearly wanted to go above and beyond in making sure that this is a shed that is still going to be standing many years in the future…… possibly long after the events of a zombie apocalypse. This is evident in their decision to not use their standard sheet board and instead opt for the tougher 12 mm tongue and groove flooring. It is the exact same stuff that makes the roof so strong and we love how it really gives the floor a sturdy feel when you are walking around the shed.
Treatment Requirement & Warranty
There is the standard ten year anti rot guarantee with the 10 x 8 Waltons Windowless Groundsman Tongue and Groove Apex Garden Shed. But like all Waltons sheds this only comes into effect if you treat the wood yourself as the wood is only dipped and not painted before it is sent to you.
Doors & Windows
Well as far as windows go……. There are none. This gives the shed a really cool and work building like look to it, but as far as safety goes it keeps people from seeing what you have in there. As far as the door goes we have already talked about what a huge shed this is and a huge shed needs some huge doors and that is what we have here! The door is 5 feet 7 inches high and a crazy 4 feet 4 inches wide! Heck you would probably be able to actually drive a mower in here……. please do not try and drive a mower in here! But being serious it is so nice when a shed has some nice big doors as it makes getting things in an out nice and easy.
Security & Privacy
This is a shed that is made to protect what is inside the only way we feel it could be any more secure is with some kind of laser gun sitting on the roof…… but that would take away from the lovely apex roof design. One cool little extra that you get with this shed is a lock and key. Which may sound like a trivial thing for us to get excited about, but not to many sheds come with a proper lock and key as standard so it is really awesome that this one does.
There are no “specific” customisation options for this shed, but Waltons do offer a few of their “upgrades” if you want them such as a bit stronger flooring and tougher roofing felt. Truth be told this is already a very strong, secure and nice shed and any of these extras are really not necessary.
Quality of construction 10/10 Longevity of material 8.1/10
Final Thoughts: This is a shed that as well as being able to store what feels like almost an unlimited amount of stuff will be able to handle the horrible weather, the kids throwing balls at it and even the odd collision with a mower when you are not paying attention. This shed is huge, tough and really looks awesome in a nice big garden.
