Roofing

Tongue & groove is the cladding used for the roofing, our experts rate this the best form of roof material and is the only type we’ve found on same-size greenhouses [2]. This roofing material is used on 4% of all greenhouses analysed, and 3% of the top 10% of greenhouses. Out of all 5′ x 2′ greenhouses we find this is actually the only one to use a tongue & groove roofing.

A 18mm thick roof boarding was used on this greenhouse which is the best thickness used for a roofing material and is the only thickness identified on same-size greenhouses [3]. It’s used on 1% of all greenhouses with a further analysis of the top 10% of greenhouses (78 in total) showing us that none of them use a roof of this thickness. Our data on all 5′ x 2′ greenhouses shows us this is the only one to use a 18mm roofing solution.

Flooring

Outstanding, our experts say most of the flooring options used are among the best.

The manufactures of this greenhouse chose tongue & groove for the floor construction, we rate this the best form of floor construction and is the only type found on this size of greenhouse [4]. This type of floor construction is used on 4% of all greenhouses we analysed, and 3% of the top 10% of those greenhouses. The data we have on all greenhouses shows us that this is the only 5′ x 2′ greenhouse that comes with a tongue & groove floor material.

A 18mm thick floor boarding is used here, this is the best floor board thickness according to our experts and a further analysis shows us this is the only thickness used on same-size greenhouses [5]. It’s found on 1% of all greenhouses with none of the 78 greenhouses that make up the top 10% using a floor of this thickness. Out of all 5′ x 2′ greenhouses it turns out that this is the only one to use a 18mm flooring.

1. Powder Coated: Typically used to give additional corrosion resistance to steel, powder coatings can be described as 100% solid paint which comprises a homogeneous blend of polymers, pigments and additives produced in the form of a fine powder. The powder is applied on the object to be coated. The object is then subjected to heat which causes the powder to melt, flow out and form a tough, coherent film.

Almost all the paints that are used for powder coating are epoxy polyester hybrid powders, these hybrids have properties similar to those of epoxy powders, however, their additional advantage is that they have improved resistance to overbake yellowing and more importantly for a garden structure improved weatherability. The polyester also helps counteract the poor UV light properties of pure epoxy coatings where chalking will occur in an exterior environment.

According to the BCF (British Coatings Federation) they say this about the durability of powder coated products “This method is often used for large work pieces such as pipe line valves, fence posts etc. or small articles from the electronics industry. These coatings give a thick, tough film with excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical, electrical insulation and chemical properties.”
