1. Powder Coated: Typically used to give additional corrosion resistance to steel, powder coatings can be described as 100% solid paint which comprises a homogeneous blend of polymers, pigments and additives produced in the form of a fine powder. The powder is applied on the object to be coated. The object is then subjected to heat which causes the powder to melt, flow out and form a tough, coherent film.
Almost all the paints that are used for powder coating are epoxy polyester hybrid powders, these hybrids have properties similar to those of epoxy powders, however, their additional advantage is that they have improved resistance to overbake yellowing and more importantly for a garden structure improved weatherability. The polyester also helps counteract the poor UV light properties of pure epoxy coatings where chalking will occur in an exterior environment.
According to the BCF (British Coatings Federation) they say this about the durability of powder coated products “This method is often used for large work pieces such as pipe line valves, fence posts etc. or small articles from the electronics industry. These coatings give a thick, tough film with excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical, electrical insulation and chemical properties.” ↩
