Shed Type and Roof Size
This is a large, apex wooden car port that is designed to keep your vehicle safe all year round. Its open plan design ensures you have plenty of space available to store a large family vehicle. Alternatively you could store 2-3 motorcycles. The apex roof plays an important role in protecting your vehicles from snow, rain and ice. Rainwater in particular will never have a chance to collect on the roof which limits the chances of rot developing. However, it is important to note that shingles do not come included in the cost. So if you want to make sure the roof is fully protected you will need to buy these separately.
The port measures 3m high and offers an impressive depth of 6m. It also provides a modest width of 4m, making it suitable for the majority of vehicles.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
The timber on this port has been pressure treated and it comes with six large support beams. These provide an extremely strong structure and frame for the high quality roof. It doesn’t feature a floor so you will need to build it on top of concrete of paving slabs. Of course, you could always just ensure the support beams are built on concrete. As there are no walls you technically don’t have to worry about having a large, solid block of concrete.
However, whilst you do have the flexibility to build it over a lawn, we recommend you stick to a solid concrete base. After all, you will be driving your vehicle in and out of the port and this would completely ruin any grass; creating a muddy mess! The floorless design is actually a large benefit as you won’t need to worry about whether your vehicle’s weight will be fully supported.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
The timber used to create this car port has been pressure treated. This means it naturally provides a high level of resistance to rot without the need for treatments. You’ll often find this type of construction described as ‘tenalised’. Both refer to the exact same process where the timber is put into a big tank, with a vacuum being created inside once the door has been closed. A pressure treatment fluid is then pumped into the tank and it soaks deep inside the timber due to the amount of pressure applied. It roughly penetrates 2-3 millimetres inside the timber. The main ingredient used in the fluid which gives the timber its rot and insect repellent qualities is copper.
There is no actual warranty provided with the building, but the pressure treatment the timber has received should protect it against rot for at least 30 years.
Doors and Windows
There are no doors or windows included on this car port. This provides numerous benefits including the fact you don’t have to worry about limited storage space and you also don’t need to worry about assembling them!
Security and Privacy
As you’ll have guessed by now, this car port isn’t designed with security or privacy in mind. As there are no walls or doors, your vehicle will be completely out in the open. However, as mentioned earlier, it is still a lot safer than if you were to store your car on the side of the road. However, we would recommend ensuring your car has a good alarm system just in case an opportunistic thief does come along.
Customisation Options and Extras
The fact there is just one customisation option available is a benefit, as it means not only do you not have to spend extra money on regular treatments, but you also don’t need to worry about spending much on upgrades either.
The extra you can choose to add to your order is Walton’s Armourshield Shingles. They are available in either green or charcoal and we highly recommend you buy them. The roof is the only form of protection your vehicle has. Therefore it makes sense that you will want to make it as strong and durable as possible. The shingles sold come with 9 packs and they are really easy to install. With a self-adhesive design, they help to give the building a more defined, textured style.
This is an attractive, high quality car port which will look great in any garden.
Longevity Of Materials
This is one of the few outdoor wooden buildings that has received a 10/10 rating for longevity. This is thanks to the pressure treated timber and its natural long-lasting qualities.
Another high-scorer, the open-plan design gives you a remarkable amount of space to store any size family vehicle.
Ease Of Installation
As there aren’t any walls, windows or doors to worry about, the installation of this car port is pretty straightforward. The only thing to keep in mind is that the support beams will be heavy. So never attempt to build this by yourself.
You are getting fantastic value for money with this building. Shingles are the only extra we recommend you invest in. Apart from that you won’t have to spend money on regular treatments so the long term cost savings are great.
Final Thoughts: This convenient and attractive car port is ideal for those looking for a stylish, modern storage space. Obviously it cannot be used for general storage due to its open design. However, if you simply need a space for your car, this is definitely a building you should consider. Once shingles have been fitted, you are left with a superb water-resistant and winter-proof shelter. The fact you don’t need to worry about installing walls, doors, windows and a floor also make it incredibly easy to assemble. We really like that Waltons have used pressure treated timber too. This helps to give the port a really tough, long lasting finish.
