Shed Type And Roof Size
Here we have a very interesting looking shed. The Wickes 8 x 8 Corner Shiplap Wooden Shed at first glance actually resembles a summerhouse more than a shed. As a matter of fact, you slap a couple of windows on the doors and you could call this a summerhouse and we would believe you. Anyway enough of that. Let us tell you, this is one very smart looking shed, so it is ideal if you want to keep your tools, gardening gear or even kids toys somewhere a bit more stylish. It is not a bad size at all as it gives you 7 feet 3 inches of width and depth, so you have a decent amount of floor space here. 6 feet 9 inches is the highest point of the shed and that is pretty impressive. It will make moving around in here much more comfortable.
The roof is a pent design and we feel it complements the style of this shed very well. It slopes towards the back which is something we always like to see and it is finished off very nicely with a very small overhang. We really wish we could tell you what the roof is made with, but they do not actually disclose this information. Now do not worry, we do not think they are trying to hide anything here, but with an educated guess, at this price range we would assume you are looking at solid sheet boarding of around 8 – 10 mm thick.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
The Wickes 8 x 8 Corner Shiplap Wooden Shed has some very smooth looking cladding. Again, like we said before, this is a shed that really could pass as a summerhouse if it had a few tweaks made to it. The cladding is 12 mm thick tongue and groove shiplap cladding and we feel that they really have done a fantastic job with it. It not only looks incredible, it also offers the rain no way at all to get inside.
At 34 mm x 34 mm the frame inside of here is actually very strong. We would say that 24 mm is the norm for a shed of this size and price range, so seeing a frame of this thickness is very good. It will ensure that the shed is very strong and will not become weak after just a few years. As long as you install the shed right, this frame will ensure the shed gives you a lifetime of use.
Much like the roof, the flooring blurb does not really give you any information. All they say is “floor included” which is ok, but here at WhatShed we like to know all the details! Still, if you take a really good look, maybe even get a Sherlock Holmes style magnifying glass, you will notice that the flooring looks to be made from solid boards which will be more than strong enough for whatever you plan on storing in here.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
The Wickes 8 x 8 Corner Shiplap Wooden Shed is dip treated, which is fine for the short term, but to make sure that the cladding does not take a beating from Mother Nature, you will need to give it a coating of wood treatment once you have installed it. Some people will say you can leave it a few weeks, but we would advise you treat it as soon as you can after installation. A fresh coating should be applied once a year to really make sure rot keeps away.
We have looked, looked again and then even looked some more and there is nothing stating what kind of warranty comes with this shed. All it says is that if there is any damage within 30 days they will exchange it or provide a refund. This really is not good enough and we hope this is not the only guarantee that comes with this shed. We say this as 10 years is the standard warranty for a shed these days.
Doors And Windows
Taking up the majority of the front of the shed is a set of large double doors. We love these doors as they offer you a lot of room to get even larger items in and out. The doors are made with vertical cladding and supported with three braces on the back. This along with the strong hinges will ensure these doors stay where they are supposed to. As much as we like the doors, we do feel a little window on each one would have finished them off perfectly.
Each side of the Wickes 8 x 8 Corner Shiplap Wooden Shed has a window. These are not cheap windows either – these are joinery quality windows that are made with actual glass and can be opened. These will let in a lot of fresh air and they also help give the shed that summerhouse look we keep harping on about.
Security And Privacy
Talking about security is a little bit confusing, as they claim that the shed comes with a lock, but when you zoom in on the pictures, you will see that there is just a pad bolt. Now perhaps they will include a padlock with the shed or they are just mistaken, but this is certainly something you will want to ask about before you order. If it is only a pad bolt, do not worry as adding a padlock is very easy and will cost you a pound at the most.
To be honest with you, there is not a whole lot of privacy on offer with this shed. We are not putting it down for this though. This is a shed that is made to be stylish and a big part of the style is those large windows. Add a set of blinds, curtains or a simple bit of fabric if privacy is an issue for you.
Customisation Options And Extras
While there are no customisation options actually offered with the Wickes 8 x 8 Corner Shiplap Wooden Shed, giving it a little bit of your own personality is very easy. All you would have to do is use wood treatment that is coloured. There are a vast amount of colours available, so have a think about what colour goes best with the rest of your garden.
There are no extras here which we are thankful for as it is a nice change of pace when you are not being hustled to spend more money. The only thing you will need to buy is some wood treatment. Perhaps a padlock as well if the shed does not come with a lock.
This is a very well made shed. A great frame and some fantastic looking cladding really do make this an impressive shed.
Longevity Of materials
While the wood may require some looking after in the form of an annual coating of wood treatment, we feel that this is a shed that is going to offer you many years of use as they have used some high quality materials in its construction.
This is a corner shed so it does not take up a whole lot of space, but in return it does give you a generous amount of floor space. We feel that most people are going to be very impressed with the storage space that this shed offers them.
Ease of installation
This is certainly a two person job as some parts require one person to hold and the other to drill or hammer, so be sure to get someone you can tolerate for about 4-6 hours to help you out. In all honesty, this is no more difficult than any other 8 x 8 shed we have seen.
While there are some cheaper 8 x 8 sheds out there, we can assure you that they do not have the style this one does.
Final Thoughts: If you want a shed that does not have that classic shed look, then the Wickes 8 x 8 Corner Shiplap Wooden Shed is the shed for you. As we have said numerous times, this shed really could pass as a summerhouse. This makes it perfect if you want a shed that is going to be a real feature of your garden. We love the large doors, two opening windows and the generous amount of space inside. In all, this is just a very well made shed and it is sure to give you many years of service all the while it stands there looking fantastic.
