This is a good size Waltons overlap workshop. The overlap cladding means that you have a building that is guaranteed to be safe and dry, even when it is raining heavily. The workshop is spacious and this space is immediately accessed by wide double doors that open out fully; bringing you right into the interior.
Solid sheet board work is present throughout the building. So all of that stability from the overlap is backed up by the boards inside the building in order to provide extra durability. Styrene glazed windows complete the attractive appeal of this workshop, providing plenty of natural lighting.

Let's Take a Closer Look...
Shed type and Roof Size
Like many in the Waltons range, this is an apex style workshop which not only provides a great aesthetic design, but also ensures excellent water protection. Due to the unique shape of the roof, water literally runs down and off the building, giving it no chance to collect and cause damage. It is also protected by heavy duty mineral felt, with the chance to upgrade to superior felt if you want added peace of mind.
The roof measures 2.25m in height and the eaves measure 1.57m. It is 2.97m in depth and the doors measure 1.33m wide and 1.78m high.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
There are a number of pros and cons of the overlap cladding construction. On the one hand, as you will see from the price, overlap is a more affordable option. It also provides pretty good protection against the elements as long as it is regularly treated. On the other hand it is the weakest type of cladding used in workshop construction which means it isn’t likely to last as long as a Shiplap or tongue and groove building. The cladding measures 8mm thick and it does create a somewhat durable finish.
The 25mm x 25mm framing is enhanced by solid sheet materials. While it doesn’t supply an overly strong structure, it is ideal if you don’t have a lot of heavy equipment. Keep in mind that the shed is durable, but it isn’t strong enough to handle additional shelving.
A floor is provided with the workshop in the form of a 10mm solid sheet board. Again, this is strong enough to hold most gardening essentials, along with light workshop materials, but it isn’t recommended for heavier items. There is an option to upgrade the floor with an extra strength support pack which we do recommend if you’re looking for maximum stability.
Treatment Requirement and Warranty
With overlap cladding you do tend to need to treat it more frequently than Shiplap or tongue and groove clad buildings. This is because it isn’t as naturally water-resistant and can be more susceptible to damage over time. It is always recommended you use a spirit based treatment because this provides an increased level of protection due to penetrating deep into the material. Waltons provides a 10 year warranty on this workshop, but they do state you should use a spirit treatment in order to qualify for the warranty.
So how often do you need to apply treatment? Well whilst it has been pre-treated with a water based solution, this is only a temporary barrier against damage. The warranty requires you to use a spirit treatment either before you actually assemble the workshop or straight afterwards. Then it is recommended you follow up the treatments each year.
Doors and Windows
In order to maximise ease of access, large double doors are provided. These come with a ledge design and feature diagonal cross-beams which stop the door from sagging and provide additional stability. There isn’t any form of lock included on the doors so this is something you will need to consider.
One thing that makes this workshop unique is that it features six windows. This means you benefit from plenty of natural lighting. If you aren’t planning on working late into the night, this means you will not have to spend any extra money fitting an electrical pack. However, it does mean the shed doesn’t have any privacy.
Security and Privacy
This really isn’t the most secure shed you can buy from Waltons. Firstly there isn’t a lock. This means to make sure nobody else can access the workshop you would need to spend additional money making it more secure. The overlap cladding also isn’t as strong as other cladding types, which makes it easier to break into. As for privacy, the number of windows included ensures you have zero privacy from prying eyes. For this reason we never recommend you store anything of value in the building unless you have an alarm system fitted along with other high-security measures.
You can customise the shed by choosing to have the windows installed on either the right or the left side of the building. Apart from that there are a couple of extra customisation options that come at an extra charge. The first option is to switch from free heavy duty felt to superior duty felt. The superior version is constructed with fiberglass and provides a thicker layer of protection. The other option is to upgrade the floor. This is a worthwhile upgrade as it gives you peace of mind if you need to store anything heavy. It also feels a lot sturdier to walk over too. The workshop comes with a free upgrade; however you can also purchase an extra strength support kit which will provide extra durability.
There are a number of different treatments you can buy, but this model does come with a free 5L Golden Brown treatment. So if you’re happy with that it will save you money.
One extra we recommend is the Waltons 10×10 Portabase. Now granted this is an expensive extra and will push the price up a lot. However, it provides a strong base and a guaranteed even surface. It adds to the overall stability of the building and in turn gives you great reassurance.
The final extra available is a weatherproof 49mm padlock with hasp and staple. This will make sure the shed is really secure and less likely to get broken into.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
Quality is the one constant guarantee you receive from Waltons buildings. This workshop is constructed to a superb standard.
Longevity of Materials8.1/10
Considering the workshop is built with overlap cladding, it provides great longevity. One factor you do need to take into account though is the fact it requires constant yearly treatments in order to really last.
This is a very large building which means you get a large amount of space. The only thing that is a potential letdown is the fact the overlap cladding isn’t strong enough to hold shelving. Therefore you are limited to the space provided.
Ease of Installation7.5/10
You should find this easy enough to put together and everything does fit perfectly. However, our rating is slightly lower than it could be due to the hard work involved and the length of time it will take to construct.
Value for Money7.8/10
In terms of value we feel this is one of the most affordable in its size group. If you’re looking for a large amount of space to work in without spending almost £1,000, this is an excellent choice.
Final Thoughts: Overall this is a high quality, spacious workshop that will look great in the garden. It provides very good value for money and despite its size is fairly easy to construct. The 2mm styrene glazing windows are shatterproof and they provide a good amount of natural lighting into the building. It is a great offering from this well-known manufacturer, though we do recommend strengthening the floor.
