With a rather old school kind of charm the 7 x 5 Windsor Overlap Summerhouse is the perfect small summer house for those who are on a budget. Also its rather compact size means that even smaller gardens are going to be able to make use of this. The most eye catching feature of the summerhouse is certainly that stable door. Which the fact that there is a stable door at this price point makes this summerhouse even more impressive. The smart looking apex roof give the structure that little bit extra style as well as making sure your belongings inside are kept safe from the rain. Plenty of sunlight will get into the summerhouse thanks to the three windows on the front.
While this is a low priced summerhouse, we feel that it has been made as good as they possibly could. Some classic looking overlap cladding has been used for the walls which is actually far more robust than you would think. Solid sheet boarding is used for both the floor and the roof and this is ideal at this kind of price range. Those three windows that are on the front of the summerhouse are made with styrene so you will never have to worry about there being broken glass.

Let's Take a Closer Look...
Summerhouse Type And Roof Size
Today we are looking at the lovely 7 x 5 Windsor Overlap Summerhouse, which is a great looking, budget priced small summer house that we are sure is going to be popular with those looking for a summerhouse at a good price. This is quite a compact sized summerhouse as the width is 7 feet and the depth 4 feet 10 inches, so you will have to be a little bit creative with the way you organise things inside here. The headroom offered is actually quite impressive as along the ridge it is 7 feet 2 inches. We do wish there was a little bit more height along the eaves as it is 5 feet 6 inches, but given the overall size of this summerhouse, we cannot be too harsh on it for that.
We really like the sharp looking apex roof that they have used for this small summer house. The steep angle of it is going to ensure the rain always runs off at the side so you do not have to worry about water sitting on the top of the summerhouse. The roof is made with solid sheet boarding which we know may raise some eyebrows, but at this price that is exactly what we expected. The boarding is covered with some felt which along with that boarding does make for as good a roof as you can get at this kind of price range.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
The walls of the 7 x 5 Windsor Overlap Summerhouse are made with 7 mm thick overlap cladding. Now we do wish that they had maybe gone a little thicker at 12 mm thick, but if they had done this then perhaps they would have had to raise the price. The cladding looks great. It has a very old school kind of look to it and it does make it stand out from some of the modern summerhouses that are out there.
Now they do not actually state what size of framing is used, but at this price and this size, we would take an educated guess that there is a 28 mm x 28 mm frame inside of here. If you look closely at the pictures, you can see that the frame is a decent size so while this is a small summer house, it should still be a very robust building thanks to the frame they have used.
Once we saw the price and the fact that the roof was made with solid sheet boarding, we were pretty sure that the same kind of boarding would be used for the floor. This is fine with us and while it may not look as pretty as tongue and groove boarding, it is still good enough to be under your feet while you are enjoying a nice glass of wine after a hard day.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
The summerhouse will arrive to you with a basic, dip treatment and that is fine with us. This is the norm for a small summer house of this price range. You will though have to give it a generous coating of wood treatment shortly after installation to ensure that classic looking overlap cladding stays free from rot. You will want to give it a fresh coating once a year.
One thing that impresses us about the 7 x 5 Windsor Overlap Summerhouse is the way that despite the low price point, you are still getting a very generous ten year anti rot guarantee with it. Now while this is a very good guarantee, you must remember that in order for this to be valid, you have to make sure you look after the wood with regular coatings of wood treatment.
Doors And Windows
The door is the biggest selling point of this summerhouse and really what sets it apart from other similar sized summerhouse. Rather than go for a regular kind of door, a stable style door has been used. The bottom of the door is all cladding and the top is styrene. It is a rather basic way to make a stable style door, but we think that it looks really cool and unique. While this is a single sized door it still offers you plenty of room to get in and out. The width is 2 feet 5 inches and the height is 5 feet 8 inches which for a single door is rather impressive.
As well as the window that is on the door, the 7 x 5 Windsor Overlap Summerhouse also has another couple of windows on the front. To be honest at this price point we would have expected one window at the most so to see two was a very nice surprise. Each window is made with styrene which is fine with us. The decent amount of windows on the front of the structure means that natural light is really going to flood inside.
Security And Privacy
If there is one thing that makes us raise our eyebrows about this small summer house it is the security. There is a catch so you can keep the door from banging open in the wind and on the inside there is a pad bolt so you can get the benefit from the stable door, but we do feel they could have put an actual lock on the door or even add in a padlock.
While there are three windows including the one on the door on the front of the structure, you still have a decent amount of privacy with this summerhouse. There are no windows at all on the sides so you could position this so that no nosey neighbours can peek inside.
Customisation Options And Extras
This is a budget priced summerhouse, but you can add your own little touch to the 7 x 5 Windsor Overlap Summerhouse with some coloured wood treatment. This way you can give the summerhouse a touch of your own personality. You might also want to consider adding a rug or some kind of vinyl tiles to make the flooring a little easier on the eyes.
Surprisingly there are not actually any extras offered with this summerhouse at all. This is great as it means you have more money to spend on furniture to put inside.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
This is a budget priced small summer house so clearly some corners have had to be cut. But to be fair, we feel that this is made as good as it possibly could be at the price they are asking.
Longevity Of Materials8.5/10
This is going to last you a very long time. Just make sure you give it a good coating of wood treatment once a year and the cladding never show any signs of rot.
You are going to have to do some good planning, but if you do, you are going to be very surprised at how far this what at first seems a small amount of space, can go.
Ease Of Installation9/10
Be sure to have a friend with you when you install this. Also a tool box, a six pack of Pepsi and plenty of snacks. You do this and you will have this installed in no more than a few hours. It is actually quite a straightforward job that even a DIY novice will not find too hard.
Value For Money9/10
Yes the quality may not be the best, but the price they are asking reflects that and we feel the asking price is just incredible.
Final Thoughts: The 7 x 5 Windsor Overlap Summerhouse may not be the most fancy small summer house on the market, but we feel it does have a lot of charm. That stable door really is great and is something we would like to see other, even larger summerhouses do. The overall quality may not be the highest, but as we have said numerous times in this review, the quality for the price you are paying is fine. If you are in the market for a small place to relax with a good book and a tasty glass of wine, but do not want to spend a whole lot of money they this is a summerhouse that you should consider.
