Building Type and Measurements
- Roof height – 7’1”
- Eaves height – 4’1”
- Door height – 5’7”
- Width – 6’5”
- Depth – 8’2”
8’x6’ outdoor buildings are the most popular sized models available. This greenhouse offers enough growing space for both amateur and keen gardeners alike. It benefits from an impressively tall design, ensuring it is suitable for all kinds of plants including climbing varieties. You’ll notice there aren’t any measurements included for the door’s width. That’s because it benefits from a sliding door, offering maximum amount of access as well as acting as a great space saving feature.
Roof and Floor
The greenhouse has a very sharp apex roof. This means it offers brilliant rainwater drainage. This is further complemented by the added guttering, ensuring the structure of the building is completely protected against rust and corrosion. The apex feature also extends the height of the building, offering a very tall and spacious interior. It is fully glazed to match the rest of the greenhouse and also comes with an opening roof vent to enable you to better regulate the temperature.
A free base is included, but there is no floor. It’s not unusual as you’ll find the majority of greenhouses don’t come with a floor. It ensures you can safely water the plants without having to move them outside and also any soil and other spillages won’t be a problem. However, this does mean you will need to assemble the greenhouse on a very firm and even base; ideally concrete.
Construction, Frame and Treatment Requirements
This greenhouse has a very solid construction thanks to the brilliant anodised aluminium frame. This has been silver coated for a stylish finish. It is also both corrosion and rust resistant, ensuring the greenhouse lasts for a very long time. The glazed panels benefit from a clip design, making them much easier to install. They should simply click into place which also makes assembly much faster than a lot of other greenhouses. One feature that you won’t find on all greenhouses is the rubber seals placed between the panels. These really help to prevent drafts.
As this is a metal based building, it doesn’t require any maintenance. This is a massive advantage compared to wooden greenhouses. Its high quality construction contributes towards the great 3 year manufacturer’s warranty.
Doors and Glazing
The sliding door is one of the key benefits of this greenhouse. It makes it easier to get in and out without restrictions and also takes up less space than a swinging door. We also feel this style of door gives the building a sleeker, nicer appearance. There’s also the added benefit that it won’t close on you, no matter how windy it is outside. It also reduces the need for any form of catch to be installed on the door.
The glazing is made from 4mm polycarbonate. This is pretty thick and therefore ensures the inside of the building is as warm as possible, regardless of how cold it gets outside. It is also a safer type of glazing than glass which makes it great for family homes. The entire building is glazed besides the frame and free base. So you are guaranteed a fantastic amount of natural light to help your plants and flowers thrive.
Security
This building doesn’t offer any security so it is highly advised against storing anything valuable. Greenhouses aren’t typically designed with security in mind. There are some that have a more secure design than others, but they are few and far between. The specific design of this greenhouse also limits the type of security you can add. The sliding door doesn’t provide anywhere for you to add a padlock. So you can either stick to storing basic, non-valuable equipment in here or look for a more secure model.
Customisation Options and Extras
There’s a surprisingly good choice of extras available with this greenhouse. The most expensive is the 8’x6’ Silver Staging Kit. This is a complete shelving set which provides a huge amount of space to store all of your potted plants. It consists of a couple of two tier staging and then four larger two tier staging. Constructed from aluminium, this staging is rust resistant and you can either bolt it together or opt for free standing instead. It is the ultimate greenhouse shelving storage kit and highly recommended by us to make gardening easier.
A 1.9kw Lifestyle Gas Heater is also worth buying; especially if you are going to be growing hot climate plants. It will mainly come in useful during the colder winter weather. It will last for many years and provides a really economical heat source whenever it’s needed.
A rainwater kit is also offered and this is largely beneficial in summer. It really helps to cut the cost of watering your plants, limiting your use of mains connected water. It is a very simple pipe that fits onto the side of the greenhouse at the end of the guttering and you should find it really easy to install.
Other extras on offer are Draper accessories. This is a well-known manufacturer of DIY and garden tools and equipment. Waltons give you the choice to purchase a kneeler and seat, weed control matting, carbon steel fork and trowel set and a garden recoil hose kit.
All of these can prove very useful, especially to the amateur gardener who is just starting out.
It may not have the most exciting design, but this greenhouse does offer outstanding quality.
Longevity of Materials 8/10
This is a very robust greenhouse and it should last for a long time to come. However, as it only features a 3 year warranty, it does pose a little doubt as to how long it will truly last.
The 8’x6’ is the most popular size greenhouse available because it offers a good amount of growing space without taking up too much space in the garden.
Ease of Installation 8/10
Customers have found this pretty easy to put together, but it has been more time consuming than expected. If you do get stuck there is a very useful video on the manufacturer website.
We’re surprised this greenhouse comes at such a low, affordable cost. It comes with great features and a very rigid design.
Final Thoughts: Don’t let the simplicity of this greenhouses design fool you. It offers an excellent range of features at a very reasonable price. An anodised aluminium frame adds to the buildings 3 year warranty and is both rust and corrosion resistant. The glazing is made out of shatterproof styrene, making it much safer than glass models. Other impressive features include integrated guttering, a roof vent, rubber seals to prevent drafts and a space saving sliding door. It gives you a lot of space to grow all kinds of flowers and plants and would suit the keen and the amateur gardener alike.
