Summerhouse Type And Roof Size
Now this is awesome! The 8′ x 6′ Alpine Kimberley 19mm Log Cabin really did blow us away from the first moment we saw it. This is not your normal small summer house. This has been designed to look like a modern log cabin and we feel that they have more than succeeded with this. This log cabin looks incredible. It is a compact sized structure so even smaller gardens are going to be able to enjoy this. While we say this is compact sized, it still offers a decent amount of room. The width is 8 feet 2 inches and the depth 6 feet 7 so inside you can actually put a fair amount of stuff in here. We have seen pictures where this is used as a home office, a place to relax and even a man cave with a TV on the wall. So this kind of space while compact is still very versatile. The headroom is great as along the ridge you have 7 feet 1 inch of headroom. Even the eaves is a good height as it is just over 6 feet high.
The roof is an apex style roof that will force the rain to runoff at the sides. They have used 19 mm thick tongue and groove boarding for the roof. This is great as it is first of all very strong so we could have a brutal snowstorm with many inches and it would not buckle at all, but also this cladding looks fantastic. Supporting the cladding is a solid support beam that also helps with its log cabin style that they were going for. Covering the cladding is some heavy duty mineral felt which will keep the rain and snow from wrecking that gorgeous boarding.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
Rather than go for the same kind of style that a traditional small summer house would go for, the 8′ x 6′ Alpine Kimberley 19mm Log Cabin does things a little differently. The cabin is made with tongue and groove shiplap cladding, but the logs they have used are an incredible 19 mm thick and they certainly do give it that log cabin look. We really like this cladding as it is very, very strong and of course it looks amazing as well.
If you look at the pictures you may notice that there is not what you would call a frame inside of here. Now before you start worrying that this will blow down when a gust of wind hits it, we can tell you that a frame is not actually needed. You see this is not a summer house, it is a log cabin and the way this is put together means there is no need for a regular frame. Plus, as you can see, the lack of a frame gives the inside a really smart and smooth look.
Under your feet is the same kind of boarding that is used for the roof. This is 19 mm thick tongue and groove boarding so it is very strong. This is able to take a lot of weight – you could use this as a home gym and the floor would be able to take it. As well as being strong the floor goes great with the roof and the walls. We love the way the floor blends into the walls and then the wall into the roof.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
The 8′ x 6′ Alpine Kimberley 19mm Log Cabin will require a coating of treatment shortly after you have installed it. This is the case for most other log cabins or even a small summer house so we are not surprised to see this. Now that cladding looks amazing so you will want to make sure you remember to give it a fresh coating once a year so it stays that way for the duration of its life.
You will get a one year manufacturer’s guarantee with this log cabin. We wish they could have given a ten year one like we have seen with similar sized log cabins and summerhouses.
Doors And Windows
There is a good sized single door that is 2 feet 1 inch wide and 5 feet 10 inches high when open. This we feel is a very good size and will mean getting something as large as a widescreen TV will not cause you any problems. The door is connected to the log cabin with some very smart looking silver coloured hinges which go with the door handle very well. A strong frame supports a large window and there is even a little bit of cladding along the bottom of the door which we feel finishes it off just nicely.
A large window is on the front of the 8′ x 6′ Alpine Kimberley 19mm Log Cabin which can actually open so you can let in some fresh air during the warmer months. Also this window is made with 4 mm thick glass which is great for keeping the warmth in so even in the winter it will not be too cold inside here. This along with the window on the door will let in plenty of natural light. We know some people may wish there was another window on one of the sides, but to be fair we feel the one on the front is ideal for a log cabin of this size.
Security And Privacy
That silver coloured door handle does actually have a proper lock on it, so you do get quite a bit more security with this than you do a normal small summer house. We feel that this is one very secure structure so even expensive things like TV’s, gaming consoles, expensive furniture and other pricey things will be safe in here when the door is locked.
While the window on the door and the one on the front are quite large, you still do have a rather private log cabin as the windows are all on one side. So you could position this in your garden so that no one could see in through the windows, or you could just add some blinds or curtains if you want some extra privacy.
Customisation Options And Extras
No customisation options are being offered with this log cabin, but we have seen similar sized small summer houses that do not offer customisation options either so it is not a big deal. While we love the look of this log cabin and are sure many of you will just go for a clear wood treatment, if you did want to customise it a little bit, you could go for a coloured wood treatment.
The 8′ x 6′ Alpine Kimberley 19mm Log Cabin does have a few extras to tempt you with. The first one is an installation service. At £589 though this is one of the most expensive installation services we have ever seen and we really do hope that this price is simply a mistake. We feel that the roofing felt is fine, but if you want something a little more classy then they have packs of shingles. These are available in either black or charcoal and are priced at £199.99.
We had to give this perfect marks as honestly we cannot think of a single thing bad to say about the quality of this log cabin.
Longevity Of Materials
Structurally this log cabin is sound and will last you decades, but to keep the cladding free from rot, you must remember to treat it once a year.
This is one of the smaller log cabins out there, but it just means it is perfect for smaller gardens. Plus that 8 X 6 of space can go pretty far if you organise it properly.
Ease Of Installation
This is a two person job, but there is not actually anything that makes this an overly hard or frustrating DIY job. Just have plenty of drinks on stand by and some good music on the radio and you will have a fun time.
At a little under 8 hundred pounds this does seem expensive for a compact sized log cabin, but we feel this is a very fair price considering just how high quality it is from the top to the bottom.
Final Thoughts: If you want a classy looking place to relax or have some fun, then the 8' x 6' Alpine Kimberley 19mm Log Cabin is just ideal for you. Rather than just go for a standard small summer house, we really think that this is something you have to consider. To start with it looks incredible, but it is also one very robust structure thanks to being made with 19 mm boarding for the roof and floor and of course that 19 mm log tongue and groove cladding that is used for the walls. If you are a little tight on space in your garden, but still want a place to have a little fun, then this is one of the most high quality structures you can get.
