Let's Take a Closer Look...
Shed type and roof and size
This is a workshop style shed that is 3.14 m in width and 3.56 m in depth. This leads to an internal specification of 300 cm width and 351.6 cm in depth. The building measures overall at 12’ x 10’. It’s a heavy duty building, and can easily accommodate the tools and machinery required for a large workshop.
The roof of the building comes in the apex style. This means that you have an instant level of protection against rainwater. But the key issue here with the roof is the headroom. Inside the apex roof really adds lots more value due to the fact that it brings in plenty of headroom in the centre of the building.
We were a little disappointed (well, a lot actually) with the lack of options in roof covering. Perhaps we expected something that costs this much, and is this big, to have a more extensive choice in roof coverings. As it stands, you have mineral felt roofing as supplied. This is by no means the worst covering in the world, but it is certainly lacking compared to other covering that usually works with a building of this size. It would even have been okay to have better covering options as extras that cost. This is a significant investment, and it makes more sense to offer a better and more resilient roof covering than to not do so.
Cladding and frame and floor
Cladding is in tongue and groove. Expensive to produce, tongue and groove works to reduce a building’s vulnerability to rainwater and wear and tear, as well as proving to be very strong. We would expect this kind of cladding for this price, so it is pleasing to see it. The boards are 11 mm, which isn’t the thickest you can buy, but is certainly strong enough for a building of this size.
Thicker horizontal framing has been included. This is noticeable as you enter the building, and is a real benefit. You feel like you’re in a stronger building, and this thicker framing will go a long way towards keeping things safe.
If you are pretty confident in your abilities, you should be able to manage the no floor option that is available on this unit. You will have to source your own flooring, but if this is something you can do, that’s fine.
Otherwise you can opt for a solid sheet flooring option, which is perfectly acceptable, or a premium tongue and groove option, which adds even more value and resilience, especially if you are using heavy machinery (which you could well be using in a workshop environment).
Treatment requirement and warranty
There is no treatment requirement. The work has been done at the factory, so all you have to do is keep it generally clean. The treatment protects the wood.We were very happy to see this, because while it is not always offered, pre-treatment is a big deal when it comes to longevity of the product.
Doors and windows
A massive 8 windows are included in this building, and they are all of the highest quality. Six of them are fixed and two of them are opening. So that means that the biggest benefit here is the light that the windows bring. There’s plenty of it,and this makes a huge difference to the interior.
To be honest, we would have liked to have a couple more opening windows. It’s a big building, and we think more ventilation is required. But this is a minor gripe because there is plenty to enjoy in the ventilation already present. It works, and it adds to the overall value.
The large double doors provide plenty of access, and we especially liked the added personnel door, that really allows you to gain not only more access but a better level of enjoyment out of the building. While you may not have a team of people working in here it feels good to have that choice in access. It also makes sense in a workshop, where safety may be an issue.
Security and privacy
There is a smart and effective pad bolt system fitted as standard. This gives you plenty of security for the building.
Basically with this building you can choose the flooring, as discussed earlier. You also get some customization in the colour of the building, which we thought was a nice touch. Security gets a look in on the customisation stakes, and you can not only chose a padlock but also a padlock protector as part of the options.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
Ease of assembly
Quality of construction
Longevity of material
Final Thoughts: This is a very impressive building and it has a lot of features that make it a really excellent option if you are looking to include a workshop in your home. A low point is the lack of decent options in roof coverings. You need to have options here, especially when you consider the size of this building. We think it’s a bit of an oversight. On the other hand, the number of windows is a real bonus, as is the personnel door, which makes the building simply more fun to use. If it were just possible to get some better covering on that large roof, all would be perfect.
