Workshop Type And Roof Size
With its rustic, old timey workshop style, we feel that the Hartwood 10′ x 8′ FSC Pressure Treated Overlap Apex Workshop is near impossible not to be impressed with. This is a workshop that has just a ton of personality and we really like what they have done here from a design point of view. It is a very nice size, such a nice size that it would work very well as a workshop, general storage shed or even as a place to pretend you are busy and hide from your other half when you are in trouble. The depth is a very impressive 10 feet 2 inches so when you open those doors for the first time, you are going to be amazed at the amount of room looking back at you. The width is 8 feet 6 inches so all around you have plenty of space to use here. We really like how high the workshop is as along the ridge it is 7 feet high so you have plenty of headroom and at the eaves the height is 5 feet 6 inches which is a little higher than the norm so we really like that.
An apex roof is used here and it is interesting how they have made it more shallow than a traditional apex roof. This is still going to force the rain to run off at the sides of the workshop, but its design is what gives you that extra headroom inside the workshop. The roof is strong enough to handle a lot of snow thanks to being comprised of solid sheet boarding and the green mineral felt that covers this is able to deal with the rain and wind very well.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
We said at the start that this was a rustic looking workshop and the way that they have achieved this look is by using pressure treated overlap cladding. This cladding is 8 mm thick and the fact that it has been put through a pressure treatment process makes it very strong. It really does have a great look and without sounding sexist it gives the workshop a very manly kind of look.
As this is a larger sized workshop it needs a good, solid and robust frame to keep it from feeling flimsy or becoming weak as the years go by. Well at 46 mm x 28 mm a strong frame is what this workshop has. Not just that, but the way they have designed the workshop so that the cladding is firmly and tightly secured to the frame really does make this one of the stronger, larger sized workshops we have seen.
You buy a workshop of this size because you are either big into your DIY, arts and crafts or some other kind of creative hobby and need a lot of space, or you are looking for a ton of space because you have lots of things that need a home. Well the solid sheet boarding floor and strong pressure treated floor joists it sits on make for one very strong and long lasting floor that will happily take the weight of as many items as you can fit in here.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
As is the case with their other pressure treated workshops, sheds and summerhouses, you are not going to have to worry about treating the Hartwood 10′ x 8′ FSC Pressure Treated Overlap Apex Workshop. Less time treating, means more time spent working on cool projects inside the workshop or sitting on your butt watching TV; either way, you will be pleased that this does not require a whole lot of upkeep.
We are very happy with the 15 year anti rot guarantee that comes with this workshop as it not only keeps you covered, but it also makes you feel that you must have one truly awesome and high quality workshop on your hands.
Doors And Windows
A large workshop simply must have a set of large double doors and we really could not be any more impressed with the doors that they have put on here. They are very strong and thanks to their ‘z’ braces and heavy duty hinges, you will find that even after a few hundred slams over the years that the doors do not start to sag or become worse for wear. By using double doors they have made sure that getting your belongings and projects in and out of the workshop is very easy.
On one side of the workshop there are four 1.2 mm thick anti shatter styrene windows to allow in natural light. These windows are all fixed so none of them open which we will admit is a little disappointing, as having an opening window to allow in some fresh air would have helped out a lot.
Security And Privacy
Included is a very high quality pad bolt which we are certain is going to keep the doors closed, even when it is very windy. No kind of lock is included with the workshop so if you do want to keep things locked away then this is something you will have to add yourself.
With one side of the workshop having four decent sized windows, privacy is not something you are really going to have. So if you are working on something like a time machine or drawing up plans for taking over the world, then we suggest adding some blinds or a curtain.
Customisation Options And Extras
On the outside of the workshop apart from painting it there is not really anything that you can do to change the style of it and honestly we are not sure why anyone would want to. On the inside though, with the large space this has, you can really let your imagination run wild as you organise your belongings inside here.
They do have a few extras to tempt you with and the first one is a 10′ x 8′ Ecobase Plastic Shed Base. Now in theory this sounds like a great idea and we are sure it would help the flooring of the workshop out, but at £199.99 it is a very expensive extra. They also offer two ways to keep your belongings safe. First of all is a Yale Hasp Steel Black Finish 120 mm & Brass 40 mm Padlock which we must say looks fantastic and will securely lock the workshop up at night and when you are away from home all for the reasonable price of £19.99. The last extra they offer is their Yale Super Durable Deluxe Shed Alarm Security Kit which is priced at a fair £29.99.
We really like this workshop and feel that they have really done a fantastic job in making sure that it is high quality all throughout.
Longevity of Materials
With the timber being pressure treated and the design being so well thought out. This is a workshop that is going to give you well over 20 years of use and as an added bonus, not require a whole lot of looking after from you.
Not only is this a workshop that is offering you plenty of floor space, you are going to love the generous amount of headroom it provides as well, this makes spending time in here comfortable.
Ease of Installation
This is a workshop that is on the larger side so it is going to require two people to install and it may be a little fiddly in some places. But this is not an overly hard workshop to install so as long as you take your time, do what the instructions tell you and have some snacks and drinks on standby, you guys are going to be fine putting this together.
While this is one of their more pricy workshops. It is so well made, large and generally impressive that we feel it is offering excellent value for money.
Final Thoughts: We really love what they have done with the Hartwood 10' x 8' FSC Pressure Treated Overlap Apex Workshop. It is just an ideal size for taking on various projects, but at the same time it is also going to offer you plenty of storage space. We feel that with the pressure treated cladding, frame and rest of the workshop, you are getting a lot of value for your money here and are sure this is going to be a workshop that gives you many years of use. This is one of the better 10 x 8 workshops we have seen and we have no problem giving this a big thumbs up and salute as well. If a larger workspace or even storage shed is what you are after then we highly recommend this one.
