Summerhouse Type And Roof Size
Talk about an adorable looking summerhouse! The Hartwood 7′ x 7′ FSC Bidford Summerhouse just oozes charm and personality and honestly from the first look you will probably have to slap your hand away from hitting the buy it button. But keep on reading and you will see exactly why we are so excited about this summerhouse. It may not be the largest, but you still have 6 feet 8 inches of depth and 6 feet 9 inches of room inside the summerhouse and as you can see from the pictures, you can actually maximise this space very well and easily fit in a chair or two, shelving and even a space for a little TV or stereo. The height is nice as it makes the summerhouse standout in your garden very well and it also provides you with a generous amount of headroom. Along the ridge the height is 7 feet 4 inches, and the eaves height is 5 feet 7 inches.
The apex roof is well designed and will force the rain off at the sides of the summerhouse which we really like. The roof is made with solid sheet boarding which is strong boarding, and although it is not exactly the prettiest boarding out there, to be fair it is going to do exactly what you want it to do. For the felt, they have used this very appealing and strong sand felt. The roof does cover a little decking area which we really like as it does add to the overall charm of the summerhouse.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
We really could not be any more impressed with the cladding they have used here. It is tongue and groove shiplap cladding so the summerhouse has this very appealing, smooth and classy look to it that will make people question the fact that this cost you under £500. The cladding is 12 mm thick and with the way it is so tightly put together it is both watertight and very strong.
A good 35 mm x 28 mm frame is what is keeping this summerhouse all together and we really feel that they have given us the best possible frame they could at this price point. The cladding is actually secured to the framing very well making for one very strong feeling structure. It is just so very robust and we feel that even 20 years in the future, the summerhouse will be just as strong as it stands in your garden next to your hover bike, hover car and other things that are sure to hover in the future
Solid sheet boarding is used for the floor which at this price we did expect, but it is still a little disappointing. Not disappointing because it is poor quality, but disappointing because the rest of the summerhouse looks so amazing we would have liked to have seen some prettier flooring in here. Still this is structurally sound and able to take a lot of weight so in that regard it is ideal and you can always do like the pictures have done and use some kind of rug to cover it up a little bit.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
The Hartwood 7′ x 7′ FSC Bidford Summerhouse will be protected during delivery, installation and for the first week or two of the summerhouses life as there will be a basecoat treatment applied to the timber. This means that you will need to give that sleek cladding a generous coating of wood treatment so that it is well protected from rot and decay. Do not throw the tub out and make sure you close the lid properly, as the summerhouse will need a fresh coating once a year.
The ten year warranty that comes with this summerhouse is fantastic, but you must know that it is dependent on you treating the timber and looking after it correctly.
Doors And Windows
They have really outdone themselves with the doors on this summerhouse. Wide and high double doors are very practical as it is so much easier to get things in and out and that is great, but what we really love about these doors is the design. The doors have the same kind of cladding as the rest of the summerhouse, so they go with the flow of the structure very well. To open the door they have these strong and easy to use door handles that we have not seen on too many other summerhouses.
Windows are on both doors and also on the front of the summerhouse as well, so in total you have four decent sized windows to let in natural light. We do wish that the two not on the doors could be opened, but that is a small nit pick on our part. The windows are nice and strong and made from shatterproof styrene so you have no worries about them smashing into a million pieces.
Security And Privacy
The biggest surprise of this summerhouse was how it comes with a lock and key. No messing around having to install any kind of lock here. However. And we know this may sound a little extreme, but if you wanted to really lock this up over the winter or when you are away on vacation then you could actually add a chain and lock to those door handles.
While there are four windows on the summerhouse, we do not feel that they make this a summerhouse that lacks privacy. Sure if someone really wanted to peek inside then they could, but this could be fixed with some classy blinds.
Customisation Options And Extras
The decking area gives you many possibilities for adding things like plants a chair and anything else you think may give the summerhouse a little bit more personality. Also you could always add a bit of colour to the structure with some coloured wood treatment.
There is only one extra available for this summerhouse, and that is the 7′ x 7′ Ecobase Plastic Shed Base which is aimed at those of you who will be installing this on grass. We must say that even if you are installing this on grass, this plastic shed base is still not an essential purchase, but if you are interested in it then it will add £149.99 to your total price.
This is one very impressive looking structure and we are pleased to say that the overall quality of the summerhouse is just as impressive as its looks.
Longevity of Materials
You will need to look after this summerhouse properly, but the payoff for this is a structure that is going to give you many years of enjoyment.
This is what we could call a compact sized summerhouse, so to get the most out of the space it offers will require you to tinker with how you place things. But the small stature of this does mean that if you have a smaller garden then you still should be able to fit this in.
Ease of Installation
A friend or family member with a good attitude and decent tools is what you need to help you install this. There is not a whole lot to putting this together and we would agree with their 4-6 hour install time that they suggest it will take.
We love this summerhouse and feel that they literally could not have made it any better at the price they are asking for it.
Final Thoughts: The Hartwood 7' x 7' FSC Bidford Summerhouse is one of those rare structures that we feel everyone who looks at it is going to say that it looks great. It has such a great cross appeal that people from all walks of life and gardens of all styles are going to love it. While the size may be a little on the small side, we must say that this is one of the most gorgeous, compact sized summerhouses we have ever seen and the price they are asking for it does make it that extra little bit more appealing as well. If you garden is tight on space, or you just want a smaller summerhouse, then this one right here we highly recommend.
