Summerhouse Type And Roof Size
The Hartwood 8′ x 6′ FSC Pressure Treated Fairford Summerhouse is a charming and compact sized summerhouse that is going to happily give you a space to kick back with your feet up, drink in hand while you relax reading a book or watching something on Netflix. This is a great place to waste away the hours after a hard day’s work and its reverse design really does make it quite eye catching. At 7 feet 11 inches wide and 6 feet 8 inches deep this is for a compact sized summerhouse a decent size. You can easily fit in a few pieces of furniture and not feel cramped. Plus it’s rather small footprint means that those of you with gardens where space is something of a premium will be able to enjoy this. The height of this is just incredible as along the ridge the headroom is 7 feet 8 inches. Along the eaves the height is 6 feet which actually took us by surprise as it is a little higher than what we are used to seeing.
An apex roof on a summerhouse or even a shed for that matter always gives a structure a very interesting look. The roof will of course keep the water out and as it is made with solid sheet boarding it is also strong. Covering the boards is this stylish, but heavy duty mineral felt that will not tear in the wind like cheaper felt can do.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
This truly is one very gorgeous summerhouse that is also very strong thanks to the wood being pressure treated. Using tongue and groove shiplap cladding was a very smart design choice and an even smarter choice was for them not to cheap out and use thin and flimsy cladding. Instead they have used cladding that is a very impressive 12 mm thick. As well as being strong the cladding has this very nice, smooth look to it that we really like.
You can see from the various pictures that inside the summerhouse there is a thick framing that is keeping everything together. We fully understand that a frame is not something that many people want to talk about as let’s face it, it is not all that exciting. But at 28 mm x 28 mm, you will be happy to know that the frame they have used for this summerhouse will keep the whole structure solid without you even realising it is there after a while.
The solid sheet boarding used for the floor may not be the prettiest looking style of flooring out there. But we are still pleased to see this in here as it is very strong. This along with the floor joists really can take a lot of weight and this style of flooring does also help keep the costs down a little. We are sure most people will be putting some kind of rug or carpet in here so we do not see its less than spectacular looks having any kind of effect.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
As the summerhouse has been constructed from wood that is pressure treated the amount of looking after you have to give this is very minimal. There is no need to treating the summerhouse after construction or even on a yearly basis after this. This is just one of the many benefits to the wood being pressure treated.
We know this is a very well made and impressive summerhouse and clearly the manufacturer does as well as they are giving a very generous anti rot guarantee that runs for 15 years with this summerhouse.
Doors And Windows
On the front of the Hartwood 8′ x 6′ FSC Pressure Treated Fairford Summerhouse there are two large double doors. We really like the look of these doors and with them being mainly made up from 1.2 mm shatterproof styrene, you are going to have plenty of light in the summerhouse. The doors being 5 feet 9 inches wide mean that getting something as large as a futon or some kind of shelving would not be an issue at all.
One thing we really like about this summerhouse is how they have actually put another couple of windows on here and not just left it at the ones which are on the doors. These windows are the same size and style as the ones on the door so when you have the doors open lines up perfectly well with the other windows and it really does give the summerhouse this interesting look. All the windows are located on the front of the structure, but to be fair with a summerhouse of this size that is exactly what we would have expected.
Security And Privacy
While the frame and the cladding do make this one very strong and secure summerhouse, the doors do not have a locking mechanism built into them so you will want to add something like a padlock which is easy and cheap to do.
Most of the front of the summerhouse is made with windows so there is certainly a lack of privacy from that angle. However this can be taken care of with a set of blinds or even some curtains if that is more your style.
Customisation Options And Extras
You may not have to treat the summerhouse, but you can still give it a coating of paint if you want to change the colour of it. We are sure that this would look very nice in a white, dark brown or even a brighter more extravagant colour. We have also seen some people use hanging baskets on their summerhouses and with this one having fully boarded sides that is something you could potentially do here.
Do not worry about being hustled to buy a whole load of extras with this summerhouse as they are only offering one extra. For £119.99 they have a very well made, plastic shed base that is made for those of you who want to ensure you are installing you summerhouse on a secure and ideal surface.
This is one of those rare summerhouses that pretty much impressed us right from the first glance, and the further we looked into it the more impressive it became.
Longevity of Materials
Not only is this made to last many years, it has also been made with materials that do not require a great deal of TLC from you.
Even though this is a little on the small size, we feel the reverse design and the extra height can really help you when it comes to laying out your furniture inside.
Ease of Installation
We feel that 4-6 hours would be what most people will have this installed in as the instructions are good and there is not a million pieces that you have to put together. Just make sure the person you get to help is not totally useless and annoying and you will have a fun time building this.
This certainly is one of the pricier 8 x 6 summerhouses we have seen, but we do feel that it is still very good value for money considering how well it has been designed and the high quality materials used.
Final Thoughts: The Hartwood 8' x 6' FSC Pressure Treated Fairford Summerhouse is one of those structures that at first glance you realise that it is very attractive, but then the more you look at it, you start to see more and more things that make you say wow. This really is one of the more high quality, compact sized summerhouses we have seen and this is reflected in the asking price, but it is a price we feel is fair. You are going to have many years of fun and relaxation in this summerhouse and if high quality and a compact design is what you are looking for then we highly recommend you consider this.
