Log Store Type And Roof Size
Now here is something that is really cool. We have seen plenty of log stores and plenty of tool stores as well lately, but now the Hartwood FSC Log & Tool Store is combining them both into one fantastic unit. This is just such an eye catching thing to have in your garden. There is no getting over the fact that this is one fantastic looking log and tool store combination. On one side you have an area to keep all your wood and on the other a small little storage shed that even has a shelf. One of the best things about it is that despite its good size, this does not take up a whole lot of space. You see, the depth of this is 2 feet 2 inches and the width is 5 feet 7 inches. As you can see from the pictures you can store a whole lot of wood in this log store and even that small tool store allows for plenty of tools such as a chainsaw, saw and other items you may need to help cut your wood. The height of this is 4 feet 9 inches at the front and expanding to a little over 5 feet at the back. This is a good height as it makes getting things and wood out of this comfortable.
The pent roof slopes towards the front which is fine by us and it is made with solid sheet boarding. Now rather than use felt like most other sheds and other such structures do they have used this lovely, overlap cladding which of course is going to stop the rain getting inside, but it also adds a lot of charm to the log and tool store.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
The sides of the log and tool store have such a great look to them and this is because they have used some very sleek looking, shiplap cladding. They have used these nice thick planks that seamlessly join together to not only give this a truly amazing look, but also to ensure this is one very strong log and tool store. On the back of the structure they have gone for slatted boards where the log store portion is. This is so there is a good airflow getting to the wood to help keep it dry.
The log and tool store is made to be one very robust and long lasting place to store your wood and tools and they do this by having a thick framing around the structure. They have not gone for a frame like you would see in a traditional shed, but the frame they have used is very well made and will keep this strong and solid for many years.
There is a slatted floor in the log store section so that fresh air can get to the wood from underneath. The tool store has a solid sheet boarding flooring which is able to take quite a bit of weight so your heavy power tools are going to be safe in here. In general we really do not have complaints with how they have done the floor in both parts of the log and tool store.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
They have pressure treated all of the wood which is always something we are happy to see. This will keep the Hartwood FSC Log & Tool Store free from rot far longer than a traditional base coat treatment provides. Also the pressure treatment process that the wood goes through means that you do not have to coat this once a year with wood treatment. Still a coating of wood treatment to keep rot away never hurt anyone so if you want to give it a coating of wood treatment then it will certainly not do any harm.
As is the case with all Hartwood products that have been made with pressure treated wood. You will be given a 15 year anti rot guarantee with this log and tool store.
Log Store Area & Door
The log store is the largest section of this and that not only means you have this good sized open space to store lots of wood. It also means that you have plenty of space to get the wood out.
The tool store has this very well made door that has two hinges to keep it secure and is actually very thick as well. The door is 3 feet 7 inches high and 1 foot 8 inches wide so even a larger chainsaw like the one pictured will be able to fit comfortably inside.
The tool store door is designed to close firmly, but it does not actually come with any kind of lock which is a bit of a shame as most likely you will have some kind of expensive saw or chainsaw for dealing with the wood so we feel that they could have added a padlock here.
Customisation Options And Extras
While you could purchase this and just leave it the way it is and be very happy. We feel that if you did want to give the log and tool store a bit of colour that you could do this with wood treatment. This way you can brighten or even darken the log and tool store a little bit as well as giving that pressure treated wood even more protection against rot.
They offer no extras with this so we are sorry to tell you that the wait for a log store to be sent to you already full of perfectly cut firewood will continue. Anyway the only thing extra that we would highly recommend you consider is a padlock or something else that will allow you to securely lock the tool store door.
We are very impressed with this log and tool store combination and can honestly say that from the floor joists to the pent roof that they have done just an incredible job with this.
Longevity Of materials
This is the only log store that you will ever need as this is going to last you just a phenomenal amount of years. The overall design and the pressure treated wood make this one very robust and long lasting log and tool store.
We feel that this is just the perfect size as it gives you plenty of space to keep your wood from laying all over the garden and getting you in trouble with your other half. And of course it even gives you space to store a few tools as well.
Ease of installation
This is around a 4-6 hour job with two people working together, not arguing or talking to many tea breaks. We do not feel this is a horrifically difficult DIY job and even those of you with rather basic DIY skills should not have any problems as long as you read the instructions.
You are getting excellent value for money with this log and tool store with it being so well made from pressure treated wood.
Final Thoughts: We pretty much fell in love with the Hartwood FSC Log & Tool Store from the first moment we saw it. As a matter of fact if our better half was not with us when we first did, we would have been throwing our money at Hartwood. This is just such a cool looking structure that we are sure will make any people think that they want to get into cutting and looking after their own wood. The space it offers you to store your wood is quite vast and you can certainly get a good stockpile going. The tool store is not huge, but you can still fit in many tools here so it is a great addition and makes this stand out from the other log stores that are on the market. If you want a place to keep your wood safe and organised or even if you just want something special and different for your garden then we cannot recommend this highly enough.
