WhatShed review guarantee

5×3 sheds are a very popular choice across the United Kingdom, as they’re an ideal storage solution for the smaller garden where space may be restricted. Just because you have a compact garden doesn’t mean that you don’t want it to look as good as it possibly can, of course, and having a suitably sized garden shed with all the tools and equipment you need in one place can make gardening easier and more enjoyable. Because of their popularity, there’s a wide choice available both in terms of design and material used, so choosing the right one to meet your specific needs can seem confusing. That’s why we’ve created this handy WhatShed guide to the 15 best 5×3 sheds available to purchase online in the UK today.

WhatShed review all varieties, makes and models of garden buildings, and in substrates including timber, plastic, and metal. You’ll find all these materials represented in our top 15 5×3 sheds, and in compiling our league table we’ve looked at sheds sold by the top 10 shed retailers in the UK today. Between them they sell over 95% of the 5×3 sheds purchased online in the UK today, so you can be sure that we’ve looked at a very wide range of models before selecting the 15 that really stand out from their competitors. more...

There were many factors that were taken into consideration when we were selecting the 15 best 5×3 sheds, and of course price and value for money were among them. In this way we’ve managed to include high quality compact sheds that are suitable for all budgets, but we’ve also looked at the aesthetic appeal of the sheds, along with their build quality and durability. By careful selection, we feel that we’ve created a list that’s truly helpful to all those who are looking for the benefits that a five foot by three foot shed can bring. It’s time to reveal the top 15 5×3 sheds currently available to buy online in the UK.

Congratulations to the Absco Easy Store in eucalyptus green, which gained the top position in our list of the 15 best 5×3 sheds available to buy in the UK today. Its combination of value and durability was also a feature of many of the sheds in our league table, but we feel that this list has something for everyone. With reviews of everything from small garden sheds to large metal workshops, WhatShed will continue to bring you the expert analysis of garden buildings that will help you make a great selection every time.

5' x 2'7 Absco Easy Store 1PE Green Metal Garden Shed (1.52m x 0.78m)

At the very top of our list of the best 5×3 sheds is this highly original offering from Australian shed manufacturers Absco. It’s made of metal, but painted in a eucalyptus green colour which means that it should still blend nicely into a garden background. The offset single hinged door is also an unusual feature, although it gives a width of 0.75m which is more generous than many single doors that we see. Also generous, especially for a pent shed such as this, is the ridge height of 1.92m, so it’s surprisingly easy to store tall items such as garden rakes and hoes inside. Because this shed is made of super strong steel, with a cladding that’s noticeably thicker than most metal sheds we review, it feels very strong and stable, and indeed it’s been tested to withstand winds in excess of 90 mph, which is good news if your garden is positioned in an exposed area. Metal cladding is also immune from the threat of warping, splitting or rot, of course, and we were very pleased to see that it comes with a 20 year warranty against rust perforations. That’s as long as any of the warranty periods we’ve seen on the 5×3 sheds we’ve reviewed, and it’s this that helps it achieve a well deserved number one spot against some very stiff opposition.

6' x 3' Palram Grey Skylight Plastic Shed (1.85m x 0.9m)

We now move from a metal to a PVC 5×3 shed, and this can bring even more advantages to a customer who wants to be able to install their garden shed and then not have to do anything else with it. High quality plastic sheds such as this one are immune to rotting, rusting, and insect attack, and this particular model is made with fire retardant PVC. This means that it’s an ideal storage facility for potentially flammable materials such as paint and white spirit, or even fuel for a lawn mower. It also comes with a 15 year warranty, and this reassuring durability helps it to climb into the number two position in our top 15 5×3 sheds. Another advantage that this ivory coloured shed brings is that it’s the widest of all the 5×3 sheds we’ve reviewed, with a width of 1.60 supported by a depth of 0.81m. With very wide opening double doors as well, storing and retrieving items is very easy, allowing the owner to make the most of every square foot that’s available. We know that some people dislike the appearance of plastic sheds, but we found this one quite attractive, thanks to the white cladding designed in an overlap style, and this is another reason that it deserves such a high standing in our top 15 list, even though it’s a little more expensive than many similarly sized sheds.

Adley 5' x 3' Green Titanium Pent Metal Shed

This is the second of the Absco metal 5×3 sheds to make our top three, which shows what an impact they have had since entering the UK market. This particular model shares the design of our number one shed, except that it employs a stark silver finish which the manufacturer refers to as zincallume. We found that it looked strikingly modern, but as we know that many people prefer metal sheds that don’t look too metallic it’s this that has determined it’s final position, even though it offers even better value for money than its green cousin. If you’re happy to have a silver coloured shed in your garden then, this could be your perfect choice. We were again very impressed by the 20 year warranty against rust, as it’s testimony to how much faith the manufacturer has in the build quality of their shed. We also liked the SnapTite assembly system, as it’s unique to Absco sheds. All the individual steel sheets simply snap into place inside a strong frame; it can take a little getting used to at first but after that it makes the installation process much quicker and easier. These little touches help this stand out as one of the very best 5×3 sheds available to buy online in the UK today.

Tiger Shiplap Windowless Pent Shed

All but one of our top 15 5×3 sheds are windowless, and whilst this is feature common in compact sheds it’s one that we welcome as well. A window free design stops passers by seeing if anything valuable is being kept inside a shed, and thus makes it much less likely that it will be targeted by opportune thieves. That is particularly evident in this pent roofed shed, as the single hinged door placed at the right hand edge of the shed creates a solid wall of tongue and groove cladding. It’s a striking design, and one that makes it look very tough and secure. This is the highest placed timber building in our list of the very best 5×3 sheds, and we liked its unique look even if it lacked the finesse that some might prefer. The reason that it achieved its position within the top 5 is that the high quality tongue and groove cladding has been subjected to a pressure treatment which forces preservative deep into the timber and gives them long lasting protection against rot and wood worm. The result is that it comes with a 10 year warranty, without the need for the customer to carry out annual retreatments, and it’s this added value that we particularly liked.

Tiger Premium Toolshed

Strongman is a brand that’s associated with strength, security, and durability and we were pleased to see that even with this compact shed they stay true to their principles. Once again we have a timber pent shed, but this can often be preferable with a shed that has a relatively small base area, in this case 1.45 X 0.85m, as it means that the roof retains the compact nature of the shed as a whole without looking too obtrusive. Tongue and groove cladding with a thickness of 12mm is used throughout, and this gives a smooth and high quality look to the exterior. There are two features we particularly liked about this model that elevated it into the upper reaches of our top 5×3 sheds, and the first is that it has integrated floor bearers. These lift the floor above ground level where high moisture contents are typically found, and are therefore an effective defence against rot. We also welcomed the inclusion of a secure key operated locking system. On the negative side it’s supplied untreated so the customer will need to add their own preservative treatment immediately after installation and at yearly intervals after that, but if security is your prime concern this could be the ideal shed for you.

5' x 3' Forest Overlap Apex Dip Treated Wooden Windowless Shed (1.62m x 0.94m)

Most of the 5×3 sheds in our top 15 list tend to be reasonably priced, but even in this category dealing with some of the smaller sheds to be found in a garden there are still discrepancies in price, which is why we always welcome a well built shed that offers exceptional value for money. That’s why this building, the second cheapest to make it into our league table, is such a great buy, and we also liked the rustic appearance that’s created by the use of traditional overlap cladding beneath a felt covered apex roof. The cladding itself is only 5mm, which is thin even for overlap cladding which is inevitably not going to be as thick as tongue and groove cladding. It is very cost effective however, and whilst it may not be ideal for exposed areas that are subject to strong winds, it is still effective at carrying rainwater away and keeping the interior dry. We were pleasantly surprised to see that a 10 year warranty against rot is provided, which even though it is reliant upon the customer carrying out annual treatments is something we wouldn’t necessarily expect to see on a shed costing less than a hundred and fifty pounds. It’s this added value which makes this one of our most highly recommended 5×3 sheds for those with a small budget.

5' x 3' Asgard Vangard Metal Storage Shed with 2 Point Locking (1.54m x 0.95m)

We return to metal sheds now, and this Korral vault has an appearance unlike any other garden building in our top 15 list. It looks like a cross between a large metal safe and timber mower store, and yet it carries out all the functions that we look for in high quality 5×3 sheds. One of the things we like about it is the teal colour scheme, which is something that we haven’t seen used on metal sheds from any other manufacturer. We feel it’s very attractive, although it may not suit those who prefer subtler shades of green. It’s a little shorter than some of the traditionally styled sheds in our list, but that can be turned into an advantage security wise as it means that it can be hidden away from prying eyes behind a wall. There are two factors that lift this above the norm and ensure its position in the upper half of our top 15 list of the best 5×3 sheds. The first is that it has very wide opening double doors, giving a very useful opening of 1.21m, so it’s easy to place wider objects inside. The second is that the metal cladding used is thicker than we usually see on the compact sheds we review, so this is a strong and stable garden building, and it’s backed up by a 10 year no-rust guarantee as well.

Oren 4' x 4' Windowless Shiplap Modular Pent Shed

This pent roofed shed may look similar to many of the other small scale sheds that we’ve reviewed, even though the smooth planed shiplap cladding made it obvious that we were dealing with a high quality product from first sight. Once we examined it further however, during the course of the review, we found that it was substantially stronger and tougher than the majority of wooden sheds that we review, of whatever size. That’s because the cladding used is unusually thick at 16mm, and this not only provides excellent stability once assembled, it also ensures that this building makes our list of the best 5×3 sheds. The interlocking cladding fits tightly together, so there are no gaps for water to exploit. The felt clad pent roof, which we were pleased to see, like the floor, is made of tongue and groove as well rather than a cheaper option such as OSB, is also very good at channelling rainwater away. We would have liked to see an extended warranty provided however and backed up by a long lasting preservative treatment, and it’s the lack of this reassuring element that prevents this good value shed from being placed even higher up our list of the top 15 5×3 sheds available in the UK today.

Tiger Overlap Double Toolshed

This is the second model from the Strongman range to make it into our list of the 15 best 5×3 sheds, and it’s only the use of more cost effective materials that prevent it from achieving a higher position. Nevertheless, it feels solid and stable once assembled as we’d expect from a Strongman shed, even though the cladding used for the walls is overlap in nature rather than tongue and groove. One reason for this is the strong framing used, which can come in especially useful in windy conditions. One thing we did like was the use of hinged double doors. Fully braced, they are very strong and it was good to see that they are given extra protection by the provision of a key operated lock. This means that the contents within your shed can be as protected as the contents in your home, especially if an alarm system is added as well. As with the earlier Strongman shed, this is supplied untreated and the instructions tell the customer to add a preservative treatment within 14 days of the installation. This operation isn’t as expensive or time consuming with 5×3 sheds as it can be with larger garden buildings, of course, but we’ve still taken it into consideration when compiling this list.

5' x 3' Traditional Pent Wooden Lean To Shed (1.52m x 0.91m)

We’ve reviewed sheds in all sizes within the Treetops Traditional range, and they always feature high quality components that place them above the norm. That’s certainly the case here, and it’s why we rate this pent roofed tool shed as one of the best 5×3 sheds that can currently be bought online in the UK. Even though the timbers have been given an initial dip treatment, however, the customer still has to carry out an initial treatment of their own which must then be followed up every year. This also means that there is no extended warranty other than the statutory minimum one year cover. If a longer warranty period had been provided, this would have been placed much higher up our league table. The stand out feature for us is the use of PAR tongue and groove cladding throughout. This means that it has been planed all round to give it extra strength. In effect this means that the 12mm cladding acts as if it’s actually 16mm thick, and even more strength and stability is given by the heavy duty cladding, which at 44 X 27mm is as thick as any that we’ve seen on the 5×3 sheds we’ve reviewed. With a key operated lock included as standard as well, this is a shed with a lot to recommend it.

5' x 3' Forest Overlap Apex Dip Treated Wooden Windowless Shed (1.62m x 0.94m)

If you love the traditional rustic appeal of the classic British garden shed, then this could be a perfect 5×3 shed for you. Its waney edge timber cladding is arranged in an overlap style, but has an irregular and almost artisan appearance that we haven’t seen elsewhere. It still effectively deflects rainwater, however, and we found its appearance charming. When painted or stained, which is something that we always recommend for unpainted wooden sheds as it prevents fading caused by UV rays, this can become a real talking point for your garden, and with an affordable price tag as well it deserves its place among the best 5×3 sheds. At 5mm thick it has to be said that the attractive cladding is not as strong as on many of the other compact sheds we’ve reviewed, but we were glad to see that it had been given a basic dip treatment in preservative and that it did come with a 15 year guarantee, even though there is an onus on the customer to add their own treatment within three months of having completed the installation. This is also the tallest of the timber 5×3 sheds which make our top 15 list, with the apex roof reaching a peak height of 2.02, so it can easily hold even the tallest garden tools and implements.

Waltons 5x3 Sheds Shiplap Mower Store

Mower stores may be designed with the storage of that most useful piece of gardening equipment in mind, but they can also make very cost effective 5×3 sheds, especially for those who don’t have large or tall items to store. Whilst the base area of 1.45 X 0.95m is more than enough for the purposes of most small gardens, the height of 1.43m is much shorter than many of the other sheds on this list. If you are looking for value and practicality over height, however, this could be the shed for you. One of the things that we liked most about this shed, especially at a price of well under two hundred pounds, is that 12mm thick tongue and groove cladding has been used for the walls. Slightly thinner solid sheet material has been used for the flooring and the pent roof, but the addition of a strong sand felt on top of the roof should see it keep rain out for years to come. This is one of the reasons that the manufacturer has also been able to provide a 10 year warranty against rot as long as the treatment schedule is adhered to. Another feature we liked was the wide opening double doors, which make it easy to store much more than just a lawn mower.

5' x 3' (1.42x0.76m) Suncast Resin Conniston Four Vertical Shed - Plastic Garden Storage

Suncast make plastic garden sheds like no other, and whilst some may not like the cream and brown colour scheme that they adopt we liked its original and modern appearance. This brings all the benefits of a plastic shed and heightens them, because it’s built upon a double walled blow moulded design which makes the shed very easy to put together, as well as being very strong and resilient. In fact it is only the rather individual appearance and a higher than average price tag that sees this well fabricated storage solution appearing towards the bottom, rather than the top, of our list of the best 5×3 sheds. From the moment we saw it we were struck not only by the eye catching colour scheme, which has also been given a wood grain effect, but also by its taller than average height. The roof has a slight curve in the centre to carry rainwater away, but it doesn’t have the pronounced pitch of a pent roof, so a height of 2.01m is given throughout. This creates a very useful 52 cubic foot storage capacity as well, once the wide opening double doors have been opened. Only a five year warranty is provided, but thanks to the natural durability of the resin cladding we would expect this to be one of the longer lasting 5×3 sheds you can buy online.

BillyOh Storer Overlap Shed

Even though this is at the budget end of the BillyOh range of sheds, as shown by the two year warranty that’s been provided rather than the ten years that their garden buildings usually come with, it still comes with enough useful features at a very reasonable price to carry it into our guide to the best 5×3 sheds. Overlap cladding has been used for the walls, which with the help of the apex roof that reaches a generous ridge height of 1.96m does an adequate job of keeping rain out and the contents dry. As we often see on the cheaper timber sheds, OSB has been used for the roof and the floors. One feature above all others makes this unique among the 5×3 sheds we’ve reviewed, and that is that it features a single fixed window on the side panel. We were pleased to see this as we feel that it adds considerable value to a budget priced shed, providing the natural light that makes it easy to find the items that you’re looking for. As this shed, unlike many with a base area of approximately five feet by three feet, is also tall enough to stand up in, it can even be a pleasant environment to spend time in as you look out over the garden. We were also glad to find that the window was made of tough shatter resistant styrene, giving added safety and security.

6' x 2'6 Forest Large Double Door Pent Wooden Garden Storage - Bike Store / Mower Outdoor Store (1.8m x 0.75m)

This may not be one of the taller 5×3 sheds to make our top 15 list, reaching up to a height of only 1.47m under its apex roof, but it is the cheapest, and it’s the exceptional value for money that makes this a garden building well worth considering for people who need a storage facility that won’t cost them too much money. As we expected at such an affordable price, it features overlap rather than shiplap cladding, but we were pleased to find that it had a reasonable thickness of 8mm which combined with its low profile makes it very stable once assembled. As is always the case with timber mower stores, it has hinged double doors which dominate the whole of the frontage. With an overall width of 1.43m, you can fit a wide range of garden tools inside even if a lawn mower is already sitting there. This doesn’t have the benefits of taller garden sheds in that it isn’t a building that you can spend time in, but it will keep your garden equipment dry for years to come, especially if an annual preservative treatment is applied. If price is your main consideration when looking at 5×3 sheds, this could be one to add to your short list.
