Modern Veg Plot
Modern Veg Plot is the kind of allotment and gardening blog that us here at WhatShed love to read. You see there is lots and lots of interesting and good advice here. However what really makes Modern Veg Plot stand out for us is the weird and the wonderful. Anyone can grow things like potatoes and strawberries. But what about something odd and crazy such as achocha, hablitza and Jerusalem artichokes? That is the kind of weird and exciting food you will be learning about here and best of all you get all the info you need to help you grow it.
We had a great time with this blog and if you are looking for something that is a little bit different then you will struggle to beat this!
Mud And Guts
No this is not a blog about horror movies, Mud And Guts is a fantastic gardening blog from Beryl Randall who has two plots of land to potter around in, in South London. Seeds are what she is all about and she just loves to have a load of seeds growing at the same time. She does make a pretty good point that it is very exciting once you have planted your seeds as you want to see what the results are!
As well as her love for seeds, Beryl also has some excellent advice on how to help your things grow to their full potential, gardening ideas and even ways to keep the pests at bay from stealing all your food and plants!
Alan’s Allotment
Here at Alan’s Allotment, you are going to find all kinds of really interesting stories about Alan and how he potters around at his allotment. We loved how he had some great bits of advice on here such as his ideal way of growing cucamelon, which is the hip new fruit that everyone is wanting to grow at the minute. If you want some inspiration and general ideas for things you can do with your own allotment then you are going to find them here.
One other cool thing is the advice Alan gives. One section in particular really caught our attention and that was how he deals with getting rid of slugs! Slugs in an allotment are the worst, but with his tips, you might be able to stop them from eating all your food!
Horticultural Hobbit
Here we have the very interesting Horticultural Hobbit from Punam Farmah’s. When she first started this allotment adventure her garden was so overrun that it actually did kind of look like The Shire from The Lord Of The Rings. But with a lot of determination as well as a bit of trial and error. Punam has become one of the top gardeners, she is so good that she has actually written a couple of books on the subject. We just love her attitude and you will certainly want to just keep on reading as this blog is very entertaining.
If you are the kind of person who has a sweet tooth then you will love the posts on things like blackberry, plum, and strawberries. She even brews her own homemade booze with stuff she grows here, now that is awesome!

There is a ton of content like this and you will be eating like a king with all the amazing stuff you are going to grow thanks to Katie’s help.
Above all else, though it is Katie’s enthusiasm that makes this such a fun and interesting blog. She makes it a point to let you know that it does not matter if your allotment is a little messy or if you do not plant your seeds at the perfect time. Just getting out there and enjoying your allotment should be what it is all about.

The Event Gardener
The Event Gardener is one of the more interesting blogs on our list. This is brought to us by a lady called, Sandra. Sandra is the kind of gardener who instead of wanting to grow every kind of food under the sun. She goes for more quality over quantity and makes each season have its own kind of special attraction. So one time she might focus on a couple of different things and then the next something else. It is very interesting to read and certainly a different approach than many other gardeners have.
You will have a lot of fun with this blog. Sandra has learned a lot from older gardeners and she loves to pass that knowledge onto the next generation which we think is pretty cool.
