Before getting into the detail, it’s important to be clear about how this review is formed, because that transparency is part of what gives it value.
We did not physically inspect the TigerFlex Shiplap Apex Security Shed at the show sites we visited. That genuinely was a disappointment, as this was one of the TigerFlex variants we were particularly keen to look at closely.
However, we have physically inspected:
- Almost every other TigerFlex shed or a very close derivative
- Multiple TigerFlex apex and pent models
- The construction of TigerFlex roofs, floors, doors, and framing
- Tiger’s steel security protection bar system, which we inspected in person at the Horsforth show site in previous years
So this review is not guesswork. It is an informed, experience-led assessment, with clear disclosure about where direct inspection ends and expert inference begins. That distinction matters — and we’re explicit about it.
Why the security versions interested us in the first place
The reason we were especially interested in the TigerFlex security sheds comes down to a long-standing concern we’ve had with garden sheds used to secure valuables.
Across many garden sheds and storage buildings we’ve inspected — including very well-made ones — the most common potential weak point isn’t the walls, the floor, or the roof. It’s often the door hinges.
On standard Tiger sheds, the doors are well made and hang true. They’re typically mounted on three good-quality hinges, and from a day-to-day usability point of view, they’re excellent. But each hinge is fixed with three externally accessible pozi-drive screws.
In theory, that means someone determined enough could undo nine screws and remove the door entirely.
This has always been a pet concern of ours — particularly with smaller bike sheds, where everything else can feel rock solid, yet the hinges represent the most obvious attack point if someone is targeting valuables.
So when Tiger introduced the TigerFlex security sheds, this was the specific issue we wanted to see addressed.
How the Apex Security Shed deals with that concern
Both the TigerFlex Shiplap Apex Security Shed and its pent-roof counterpart address this hinge issue by incorporating a steel security protection bar.
Although we didn’t inspect this exact shed at a show site, I have inspected this security bar system in person at the Horsforth site in the past, and it left a strong impression.
In simple terms, the system works like this:
- The steel bar is fixed directly into the door framing
- It also anchors into the framing on either side of the door module
- When the shed is open, the bar hinges back on itself, allowing full access
- When securing the shed, you close the door, swing the bar across the face of it, and lock it into position
- A padlock is then applied, creating a proper double-locking setup
That’s easier to understand once you’ve seen it, but the key point is this:
the bar engages with the structure, not just the cladding.
Anyone trying to force entry would either have to pick the lock or use serious leverage — and that would involve splintering timber, stressing the framing, and making a lot of noise.
This isn’t cosmetic security. It’s practical, thought-through engineering.
What “security” really means for a garden shed
It’s worth being realistic and honest here.
No garden shed is ever 100% secure. That’s not a failure — it’s simply the nature of garden buildings.
What security actually means at this level is:
- Making access difficult
- Making it time-consuming
- Making it noisy
Time increases risk.
Noise attracts attention.
With the security bar tied directly into the framing, this shed does exactly what a security shed should do: it buys you time and raises the stakes for anyone attempting to break in — especially if you combine it with basic measures like lighting or a camera.
Windows: light without compromising the brief
The TigerFlex security sheds are still, at heart, garden sheds — and Tiger has been sensible about how glazing is handled.
Rather than large window panels, the apex security shed uses small, high-level security windows. These:
- Let natural light into the shed
- Make it practical to work inside
- Are positioned and sized so you’d need to stand on something to peer in
- Don’t advertise the contents of the building
This is a well-judged compromise. You’re not left with a pitch-black interior, but you’re also not turning the shed into a display case for whatever’s inside.
Some TigerFlex windows on non-security models open for ventilation; security versions are understandably more conservative. The emphasis here is privacy and protection, not openness.
Apex roof: why it matters on a security shed
The defining feature of this model, compared to the pent security version, is the apex roof.
The main advantage of an apex design is internal height. You get a loftier feel, more headroom, and a space that’s more comfortable if you’re actually spending time inside.
That makes the apex security shed particularly appealing if:
- You want to use it as a secure workshop
- You’ll be moving around inside regularly
- You value headroom and a more open internal feel
If your priority is pure discretion or fitting into a tight space, a pent roof can make more sense. But if usability matters alongside security, the apex design has a clear advantage.
Importantly, the modular TigerFlex construction doesn’t introduce any concerns here — structurally or from a security point of view.

Construction quality: what we know for certain
Based on our hands-on inspections of TigerFlex sheds across the range, this model uses:
- 12mm tongue-and-groove shiplap cladding
- 12mm tongue-and-groove roof boards
- 12mm tongue-and-groove floor boards
- Additional internal framing compared to standard sheds
That higher framing density means:
- Greater rigidity
- Less flex
- A more solid overall structure
When you’re thinking about security, that extra structural stiffness is a genuine plus. And from everything we’ve seen of TigerFlex construction, the modular panel system itself raises no concerns — the framing does the real work.

Sizes and layout options
According to the Tiger brochure, the TigerFlex Shiplap Apex Security Shed is available in the following sizes:
- 4’ × 4’
- 4’ × 6’
- 8’ × 4’
- 8’ × 6’
- 12’ × 4’
- 12’ × 6’
These footprints make sense for a security-focused building: compact enough to remain discreet, but large enough to be genuinely useful for bikes, tools, and equipment — or as a small secure workspace.
Who this shed is really for
This shed makes the most sense if:
- You want better headroom than a pent roof offers
- You’re storing valuable tools, bikes, or equipment
- You want real security improvements, not token features
- You expect to spend time inside the shed as well as lock things away
If your priority is minimum height or maximum concealment, the pent security shed may edge it. But if comfort and versatility matter alongside security, the apex version is a strong choice.
Final verdict: why this model exists
The TigerFlex Shiplap Apex Security Shed exists for a clear reason.
Over years of inspecting garden sheds, one of the few genuine weaknesses we’ve repeatedly identified is hinge securityon otherwise solid buildings. This model — along with the pent security version — is Tiger’s direct answer to that problem.
While we didn’t inspect this exact shed at a show site, our extensive hands-on experience with the TigerFlex system, combined with direct inspection of Tiger’s security hardware, gives us confidence in what’s on offer.
It’s solid, well-engineered, realistically secure, and — crucially — honest about what security means in a garden setting.
If you want an apex-roofed security shed that still feels like a proper Tiger build rather than a compromised bolt-on solution, this is a very credible option.
