Thinking of Buying from Garden Buildings Direct?

Here’s What You Should Know Before You Order

Garden Buildings Direct (a trading brand of Kybotech Ltd) offers a large range of sheds, log cabins, summerhouses and garden structures — often at very competitive prices.

However, when you’re investing hundreds or even thousands of pounds into a garden building, headline price should never be the only consideration. Construction quality, specification consistency and after-sales reliability matter just as much.

Our current position:

We recommend buyers approach Garden Buildings Direct carefully and compare specifications thoroughly before committing.
Online customer feedback trends are highly mixed, and recurring concerns relate to delivery delays, missing parts and after-sales resolution processes.

If you are currently comparing retailers, we strongly advise reviewing at least one higher-consistency UK manufacturer alongside them before making a final decision.

Let's Take a Closer Look...

Garden Buildings Direct: A Quick Overview

Garden Buildings Direct is an online retailer specialising in wooden sheds, metal sheds, plastic sheds, log cabins, summerhouses, playhouses, storage units and greenhouses. Many of their products are sold under the BillyOh brand.

Their core positioning centres around affordability and a wide selection. Most models allow optional upgrades such as thicker flooring, reinforced roofing or additional treatments.

This upgrade-based pricing model is important: entry-level specifications can differ significantly from upgraded versions. Buyers should pay close attention to:

  • Cladding thickness
  • Roof construction (OSB vs solid board)
  • Floor thickness
  • Glazing material
  • Fixings and hardware quality

In lower-priced ranges, compromises are often made in these areas.

Reputation & Customer Feedback

Garden Buildings Direct has a very high volume of online reviews across multiple platforms. High review volume provides a broad sample of customer experience — which is useful when assessing risk.

However, overall feedback trends are mixed to negative in recent years, with recurring themes including:

  • Delivery delays or rescheduling
  • Missing components on arrival
  • Difficulties resolving issues post-delivery
  • Variability in build quality between ranges

This does not mean every customer has a poor experience — but it does indicate inconsistency.

When spending several thousand pounds, inconsistency is a factor worth considering.

Are They Good Value?

If judged purely on price, many models appear competitive.

But value should always be assessed against:

  • Longevity
  • Structural durability
  • Weather resistance
  • After-sales support reliability

In our experience reviewing over 4,000 UK garden buildings, lower headline prices can sometimes translate into higher long-term ownership costs if upgrades are missed or structural components underperform.

What We’d Recommend You Do Instead

If you are considering Garden Buildings Direct, we recommend comparing them directly against a manufacturer with stronger consistency across materials and construction.

One retailer we consistently rate highly for structural integrity, material specification and overall build consistency is Tiger Sheds.

The difference is usually found in:

  • More robust standard specifications
  • Clearer structural transparency
  • Greater consistency across ranges
  • Stronger reputation for build quality

If you’re researching log cabins in particular, start here:

If you’re looking at sheds or summerhouses:

Comparing specifications side-by-side is the safest way to make a decision.

Trustpilot & independent review signals

Garden Buildings Direct has a very large volume of customer feedback on Trustpilot, which makes it one of the most widely-reviewed retailers in this sector.
High review volume is useful because it reduces the chance that you’re only seeing a handful of isolated experiences.

However, when you look at the overall rating trend and then read through the lower-rated reviews, a consistent set of issues appears repeatedly:

  • Delivery dates changing after purchase (sometimes more than once)
  • Missing or incorrect parts on arrival
  • Difficulty getting issues resolved quickly once the order is delivered
  • Quality inconsistency between ranges (especially at entry-level spec)

This doesn’t mean every order goes wrong — clearly some customers have an uncomplicated experience.
But when the same complaints recur at scale, the sensible approach is to treat it as a risk factor and compare carefully before spending serious money.

For comparison, BillyOh (closely associated with the same product ecosystem) also carries a large volume of Trustpilot feedback and shows similar themes around delivery, quality and after-sales experience.

We intentionally don’t quote exact Trustpilot scores on-page because they change over time. Instead, we recommend checking the current rating and reading a spread of recent 1–3 star reviews before you commit.

What our readers most often report:

  • Long waits after ordering (sometimes far beyond the advertised lead time)
  • Parts missing or wrong, leading to stalled builds
  • Time-consuming back-and-forth with support to resolve issues
  • “Cheap for a reason” concerns about timber quality, warping, roof/floor strength and fit

These are recurring themes in feedback left directly on WhatShed — and they broadly mirror the patterns visible on major review platforms.

How We Currently Rate Garden Buildings Direct

Garden Buildings Direct offers a very large range and competitive pricing. However, based on specification variability and the pattern of online customer feedback, we would classify them as a budget-to-mid-market retailer where careful product selection is essential.

Pros:

  • Large product selection
  • Multiple size options per design
  • Upgradeable configurations
  • Competitive entry pricing

Cons:

  • Specification varies heavily between models
  • Upgrade-dependent durability
  • Mixed customer service reputation
  • Delivery reliability concerns reported at scale

Final Word:

If price is your primary driver and you are comfortable carefully checking specifications, Garden Buildings Direct may suit certain buyers.

However, if you want greater consistency, stronger baseline specifications and lower ownership risk, we strongly recommend reviewing Tiger Sheds and other higher-consistency UK manufacturers before making a final decision.

Affiliate / promotional link update (for transparency):

We are currently not actively promoting Garden Buildings Direct via tracked affiliate links.
We received notice on the 5th February 2026 from an affiliate network (Webgains) that the Garden Buildings Direct programme was suspended due to non-payment, and affiliates were advised to remove promotional links until further notice.

This is not a judgement on every individual order, but it is a relevant operational signal — particularly for higher-value purchases.
For that reason, we recommend buyers compare against a higher-consistency alternative before committing.

Cheap for a reason. Aftercare from a useless call centre in the Philipines. Shoddy product – warped, damp and broken panels. Be prepared to spend extra getting it up to standard and don’t expect any customer satisfaction from after-sales team.

My Autistic son needed a ‘Chill out shed’ for the school holidays 2016.
I ordered Billy Oh 5000 shed from this company on 13/7/16, paid via PayPal – £648.99.Delivery booked for 21/7/16.

GBD (Garden Buildings Direct) emailed me 3.47am on 20/7/16, rescheduled delivery for 6/8/16. No phone call made to me, just this email.

After numerous calls made from me to GBD and emails I was told it was ‘very rare’ that my delivery was delayed and I was now a ‘priority’.
Myself and Son were extremely upset.
      Delivery booked for 6/8/16.

GBD emailed me 4.10am on 5/8/16, rescheduled delivery for 16/8/16.
Again, no phone call made to me, just this email.

Very angry with how myself and family had been treated,I wanted a FULL and IMMEDIATE REFUND.
Telephoned and emailed GBD numerous times from 5/8/16.
Refund made on 8/8/16 via PayPal but by E Cheque, not Instant Bank Transfer which I clearly requested.

PayPal confirmed to me that E cheque takes 5-7 working days to clear in my PayPal account, then a further 5-7 days to transfer and clear in my bank account.

My Autistic son has now had to go without his Shed ( his Chill out area) for the whole of his school holidays. My family and I had saved a long time for this totalling £648.99.
I cannot order another shed until this refund eventually reaches my bank account.

      *DONOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY.
GARDEN BUILDINGS DIRECT ARE NOT A RELIABLE OR TRUST WORTHY COMPANY.
I STRONGLY RECOMMENDED LOOKING ELSEWHERE FOR A SHED.
THE CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE TELEPHONE AND EMAIL IS DISGUSTING.
THEIR LACK OF EMPATHY FOR MY DISABLED SON IS APPALLING.

I STRONGLY RECOMMENDED NOT BUYING ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY*

Ordered an 8×6 Garden. Made it clear to them that I needed a 23rd May delivery (on a number of occasions).
    Failed to deliver.
Contacted Kybotech via phone on the morning of the 23rd, told that there was a part missing to delivery would be 7-10 days ( my current shed was chopped up at this point).

Seriously out of pocket for the extra labour I had paid for to do this work, although the company were not interested in this as this isn’t covered in their ‘terms and conditions’. Company not willing to offer any compensation – indeed anything in respect of the problems they have caused.

Many e-mails and calls exchanged offering little help.

Have had to cancel this order. Bank Holiday now missed! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

I was told the shed was out for delivery but come 6pm nothing had arrived. I emailed and waited for a follow up apologising and explaining the situation, nothing arrived. I called to find out what was going on, only to be told it had been delivered and I should look about the house for an 11×9 shed, as if it might have gone unnoticed, or maybe it could have been hiding, who knows!

They had to investigate and I was promised a call back the same day, no call came. I had to phone back at the end of the day, only to be told it wasn’t put on the lorry and the quickest they could get me it was in 7 days time, despite stating they offer a 48hr delivery service on their site, they certainly weren’t willing to go the extra mile to rectify the problem. I’ve now been left out of pocket because of their failings and the attitude I got said they really couldn’t care less.

I’ve since had to cancel the order and will wait for a refund, hopefully that will be less painful, who knows.

We ordered a playhouse for our 3 year olds birthday. We paid extra for delivery on a her birthday.

The day before delivery we were told that they couldn’t deliver as promised and that we may get delivery a week or so later but they couldn’t be sure.

Rang the number from the email correspondence and was surprised to reach a call centre in the far east. I thought they were based in Newark….

We decided to cancel the order and was told to send an email to the cancellation email address. We have heard nothing so far…

We would advise everyone to read the reviews from this company on twitter etc before parting with even a penny…

The review figures I have left are on the generous side. Terrible company, terrible customer care, and no product to review.

I never leave reviews about products but after so much stress dealing with this company I feel I have to. If your product arrives without issue then I am sure they are great. However if you have an issue they have no actual customer support to speak of. MY husband has wasted two whole days, I have wasted hours and I have an upset child with no play house. Not sure if issue is with suppliers or the company but this is the worst service I have ever experienced. They just don’t care how much of your time they waste, what they tell you or how frustrated you are. Try a different company unless you are willing for your time to be wasted if things go wrong.

Placed my order for a 10 x 8 summerhouse on the 5th June and was told 14 to 18 days delivery. When checking on my order online this had been changed to approx 21 days. After 25 days I had to make several calls and finished talking to someone from Philipines ? who after putting me on hold for 3 or 4 minutes then told me they were still waiting for parts to be made. After she read out these components it sounded like the product had not even been started. I was then told the summerhouse would be ready for delivery within 7 to 10 days. So if I receive this summerhouse 5 days after the 10th day I will have been waiting 5 weeks. For those of you thinking of buying from Garden Buildings Direct, don`t expect to good service.

No problems with Ordered summer house, which arrived on time and all parts there.
Quality of building is poor after 7 months the building is still standing but leaking like a seive, knots in panels just let the water through even on the 14mm upgrade. Advice don’t buy this produce put a few more pounds togethe and buy something better quality. I would also check the sizes as building is not very tall more suited to children than adults

I can only recommend that anyone reading steers well clear of this company. I have previously paid little attention to online reviews and given the quality of the website, helpful UK sales staff and testimonials on the site I went ahead and ordered a cabin. A mistake I will never make again.

It’s the old story, as soon as they have your money they lose all interest in you as a customer. Whilst the helpful sales staff are in the UK and speak good English, as soon as you mention you have already placed an order they refuse to talk to you any more and pass you to “customer services” in the Phillipines where, frankly, customer service is the last thing they care about. I had received a mail stating a delivery date less than 24 hours away which I could not make. I mailed them back twice, I rang 4 different people, hanging on for more than 20 minutes on two occasions, each time promised a return call which of course has never happened. They refuse to put you through to anyone senior, they are well trained in the “no-one available” or “all busy” spiel. They say if you email someone will call back – I sent 2 and no reply. They say if you raise a complaint on their site they will get back to you urgently – I did and they never have.

After 2 days of this I concluded that if I had any issues after it arrived I would never be able to get it sorted, this is supported by the growing volume of feedback to this effect. So I cancelled the order. The next day the delivery driver still rang to check the delivery arrangements and I had to tell him not to bother.

It’s a shame as they offer a good choice at sensible prices, and the quality MAY not be that bad, but until Kybotech learn the importance of treating their customers fairly I suspect the number of reviews like this will just grow and they will lose custom hand over fist. That may not bother them now while they are busy but it will come back to haunt them!

Bought a 12×8 shed. Doors didn’t fit properly, 10 mm gap either side. I put plenty of bearers down but floor so flimsy it was like walking on a trampoline. Within 18 months, the roof has sunken so badly I need to replace it all.
Kybotech, ( the manufacturers), not interested due to being over 12 months old.
SURELY a shed roof should last more than 18 months ?.
Took over two months of emails back and forth for them to tell me to ‘do one’.
Customer services phone, waste of time. Spent hours waiting to speak to them.
Please don’t use this company, they are very, very poor.

Utter, utter shambles of a company. I paid £1000 for a log cabin, which took nearly a month to arrive and the gables were the wrong size, so I couldn’t fit the roof. The doors and windows were missing frame parts, rendering them unfittable. The call centre is a script-reading sweatshop in the Philippines that are polite but useless. I’ve had promises of replacement parts and compensation for the polythene I had to buy to get a waterproof shed, none of which have appeared. The shed itself is pretty shoddy, with unfinished wood in the window frames and I’ve already got gaps appearing in the floor. I’ll end up buying the timber myself to complete it and pursuing a refund through legal routes.
Don’t touch them – the money you save will disappear in stressful phone calls and putting right their crap workmanship.

I have also posted the same on another website, such is my disgust at this firm!

My original order for a Sherwood Premium 6×4 metal shed plus premium tongue and groove floor was placed on 1st August and due to be delivered on 7th August. I was meant to be told when the item was being delivered so I could be at home to receive it. No such call was made and it was left in my garden with no invoice or signature of delivery.

Whilst trying to erect the shed I realised it to be the wrong item, a lower priced item inferior to what I had ordered and paid for, on top of this it was damaged. This was made all the more frustrating as I had paid for someone to come and erect the shed as being a widow in my 60’s I am not able to do so myself.

I telephoned your offices after the weekend on 10th August and was told another shed would be delivered within 3-5 days. Then I had an email to say the order would be delivered on 7th Sept and they would collect the other shed in total contrast to the telephone conversation I had.

I then phoned on 11th of August to tell them the 7th of Sept was not suitable for me so they agreed on the 19th of August for delivery. Keeping in mind you had not kept any of your agreements to this point I called again on the on the 18th of August to ensure you were going to arrive the following day as promised only to be told you had not intention of turning up whatsoever and it was in your system for September.

The person I spoke to was very apologetic and arranged for the shed to be delivered on the 21st of August. Needless to say the 21st arrived but the shed did not. So once again I return to the phones to spend another 20 minutes in a queue waiting to get through then being cut off when I got to number 1 in the make believe queue of people. Back on the phone the same thing happens again!

Finally get through to position 1 after 3 attempts and 1 hour to be told to call back later!!!!

So here we are, August 25th with the wrong damaged shed still in my garden, me with nowhere to store my items and still no correct shed.

The standard of service you are providing is simply not acceptable. You have delivered the wrong shed which was damaged and does not give me much hope if I ever receive the correct one! Not called when you were meant to so as to inform me of your imminent arrival, lied to me regarding the delivery dates on more than one occasion and I still don’t have a shed!

I have wasted money paying someone to be present to erect the shed and will have to pay more once I finally get it. I have moved my diary around to be here when it arrives for no reason whatsoever and at every stage you have failed to take my concerns seriously.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the “service” you have provided.

Paid an additional charge for shipping to AB postcode as this is considered to be Highlands? Was not happy about this but the summerhouse was not like any other i had found so no option. After 3 weeks i phoned to chase delivery and was told to be patient, i would get an email regarding delivery by the end of the week. The email never arrived so i called again and was told that the shed was now with courier and i would hear directly from them to arrange delivery. This never happened either. i called again and was told that i would hear once it was with courier, which totally contradicted the previous phone call. The support staff just kept repeating the same statements over and over again. I emailled and got a reply saying someone would be in touch within 24 hours but I never heard back. The following Monday they called me to say that they were refunding my money and cancelling order as they could not deliver to AB postcode at all. i was furious. the following day i got another call at the same time of day to tell me exactly the same script as the day before. It felt as if they were rubbing salt into wounds. I was sure that i would never see money but i did eventually get money. They are on to a money making scheme though as they had my money for 5 weeks in total and earning interest on other peoples money is unacceptable and no compensation for distress caused. No orders should be accepted if they cannot deliver.
if you are looking for a shed DO NOT BUY FROM GARDEN BUILDINGS DIRECT!!

But I ordered a Billy Oh 5000 6 x 4 shed for delivery on the 14th September 2015 I was informed by email 3 times once to confirm my order. The second to explain my order was being despatched and the third to give me the delivery slot 8am til 1pm actually delivered on time at 9.30am. The shed is great and if you follow the instructions goes together with ease and is of great quality for the price.

The worst company I have ever dealt with. Delivery was to my neighbour who knocked on my door around 8pm saying he had a package, after I sat in all day waiting with my car on the drive. Then the product was faulty, but I thought I could make do and just get a replacement part for the worst bit. After 16 emails and promises to replace the one part, they are now ignoring me. I have now requested a full refund and a courier to pick up the product, but of course no response (only an automated email saying they will respond within 24 hours). Every couple of weeks I go through the same groundhog day and it’s now 3 months, so I guess the credit card company is the way to go. Truly terrible.

Bought a 7ft by 7ft summer house from them costing over £550. Was meant to be delivered within 9days but actually took 4weeks. The delivery man was very rude and scruffy in the way he was dressed and he needed a good bath as he smelt like he hadn’t washed for a few weeks. The summer house it’s self is dreadful, I spent 3 days sanding it as it had so many uneven bits and splinters. Finally came to the time to put it all together and none of the pieces where straight or the same size so I had to spend 2 more days messaging everything and cutting it all to size. It didn’t help that the instructions I was given was for a 4ft by 8ft shed, so I had to guess what I was doing and where everything went. I have so far spent 2 days putting it together and I am nowhere near finished but I have ran out of screws and nails so will have to go to a shop and buy more as no where near enough where provided. I also had to replace the felt for the roof, there wasn’t enough of it and what was given was full of holes and covered in rips. Overall this product is bin worthy, such a waste of money. Could of got a much better quality product from pound world

This is what I sent to the company:

Sirs, I recently informed you of my disappointment in your product. You have asked me to send photo’s which i have attached.
As you can see, the the roof tacks that you supply are to long for the thickness of the roof panels you supply. This has damaged the inside of the inside of the roof.
Also, the floor is supplied as 2 sets of 3 panels, but doesn’t allow you then to join them together unless you purchase extra wood to batten them together.
Very poor considering it is advertised as a premium floor.
This product is sold as a 12 x 8 Shed. It is not, it is a 12 x 7 shed. I appreciate you are going to inform me of external and internal dimensions.
Unfortunately an element of trust is expected from the buyer to the seller. Especially a company called garden buildings direct or Billy oh Sheds.
To sum up my complaint I feel you have supplied a product and reduced the quality of it by cost stripping….. for example :
The thickness and quality of the roof panels
You recommend building within 1 month of delivery (why)
The doors are badly made and warped
You supply only enough ash felt with a 40mm overlap
    I spent £860 and got £86 refund !!!!!

Unfortunately it all went wrong then when the floor base was the wrong size and you then have to deal with a call centre in the Far East which doesn’t appear to be able to deal with problems effectively.Eventually a new floor was delivered. Now come February I have problems with a leaking roof turning the shed mouldy.I have asked the customer service for new felt and roof panels. After sending numerous photos and going through the T&C I just keep going around in circles. I am now on my ninth email, call. For such a simple problem to fix their lack of care is infuriating. Basically their motto is to fob you off as much as they can.If you value customer service do not use!

Garden Buildings Direct does price itself at the low end of the market and the product is what you would expect for the price.

Positives are the wide range of products and ability to customise your order. The order arrives with comprehensive and easy to follow build instructions.

Negatives are that the delivery was late, communication with the company was poor, the product was incomplete with parts broken, customer service was poor, they do not make an effort to resolve any issue you have after you have paid your money.

Interestingly they are still having issues with opening new processing plants two years after you noted they were having the same issue.

I note that over half the reviews on review centre are one star – even given the bias in reporting negative experience this is staggering.

In summary – the sheds are cheap and if you are lucky then you won’t have any problems. If you do have any problems then you are stuffed.

Avoid like the plague. Terrible customer service with an overseas call centre. They take your money and then don’t care, when my shed finally arrived it was a joke. Poor quality wood and parts missing. Look at all the reviews on Trust Pilot, there seems to be a format to the positive ones and all the negative ones get reported and removed by Garden Buildings Direct.

Worst online buying experience ever. If they could manage their deliveries as well as they can manipulate their online reviews, they’d be fabulous.

We ordered a BillyOh Home Office on 23rd March. Half arrived 19th April (and to be fair, the driver was helpful and identified that about a third of the parts were missing).

Another delivery arrived on 26th April, but only a couple of parts; we were still missing both side walls and plenty of other bits. After many calls to their useless Philippine call centre, we were promised the rest would arrive on 10th May. So we waited in all day, and nothing arrived.

We were then promised delivery on Saturday 13th May. We waited in all day, having phoned and been told it was definitely on the van and we were the first drop. Guess what, nothing arrived. When we phoned them at 8pm, we were still told it would definitely be arriving that day ! We’ve got the chat log, and it reads like a comedy script.

Their cancellation & refund policy seems over-complex and bureaucratic, designed to enable them to keep the money as long as possible. It is now nearly 7 weeks after ordering with no home office, so we plan to regain control of the situation by doing a credit card chargeback and reporting them to Trading Standards.

Avoid this company unless you like spending hours on the phone to a call centre and more hours looking out of a window waiting with decreasing hope for a van which will never arrive !

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY: Ordered a summer house, told it would arrive 10 -4pm on the morning had an email saying it would arrive 4pm -11pm, deliver is down as 6am – 6pm. Told during the day it would arrive at 6.30…nothing…..7.30…. nothing then I had a call the van had broken down, told it would be 9.30, it arrived at 10.50pm. 1 guy on his own so we gave him a hand to off load. One of the main sides was missing. As we have people helping us put it up this weekend I need the side panel, I have been told there is nothing they can do until 3 – 5 days. I have cancelled the order and told them to issue a full refund and collect the Summer house which is very flimsy, I will also be contacting my credit card company to get payment stopped and getting in touch with Trading Standards (luckily my husband knows the main guy who heads it up).

    PLEASE READ THIS!!

I should have known, in all my years I have learnt you get what you pay for. Quality Log Cabins are £3.5k, if you see one for £1k you should know better. This is the single worst product I HAVE EVER BOUGHT. The timber arrives in 200+ pieces. It is untreated. You have to set up a production line to apply 2 coats of preserve, drying in between and 2 coats varnish or paint later. That took us nearly 6 weeks!!! We had to get pallets to rest drying timbers on, saw horses to sit the timbers on while applying, removal blankets to cover the garage floor and driveway to stop the preserve/laquer staining the floors, bike covers to move bicycles out of the garage to achieve enough room to treat, lay out while drying and then store treated timbers until the whole thing was finished. If you live in a house with no garage and no driveway, I have no idea how you would do this?? It is in tiny, tiny letters on the selling website, that the timbers are untreated. It was the delivery driver who really explained that to us.

33% of the parts were missing. Of the 66% we did have, 25% were damaged or incorrectly produced.

We were provided with the wrong instructions and wrong parts list (we didn’t know that until after we started the build and phoned for missing parts. They emailed us a parts list which was completely different to the one we received with the delivery.

The missing parts arrived 10 days later, then they have to be treated, but 50% of the missing parts were missing!! I worked out that I could buy the missing structural pices from the local timber merchants and the rest were all fascia pieces, so we could still finish the build.

2 weeks on I still have no fascia pieces and cannot get any response from GBD.

We decided on clear laquer, as we wanted the light timber look. The 2 batches of timber received, plus the ones we sourced locally, are all different colours, it looks bloody awful.

The first delivery arrived 15th April and we still have parts missing.

The quality of timber is dreadful, its thin and flimsy with incorrect cut outs on view on wrongly made boards.
With associated costs, varnish, brushes, local timber etc, we have spent an additional £500 finishing a 10×8 cabin that cost £1000. It’s not finished yet and it looks an eyesore.

I haven’t decided yet whether to paint it and live with it or set alight to it.

If you don’t have the £3.5k for a proper log cabin, please, please., please, either save until you do, or just buy a tried and trusted shed from your local timber merchant. NEVER buy from these people.

They are, by some distance, the overall worst seller I have ever had the misfortune to buy from. Totally my fault, I should have known. But in fairness, even at my most cynical, I couldn’t have guessed this.
(the above is an accurate and abridged version of the full story!!)

    – Quality of parts delivered is awful (4 damaged)
    – Parts are mis-labelled at factory, and call centre and factory are completely disconnected
    – each time you communicate with them a different person replies
    – I have 70 emails in my inbox and spent 5+ hours on the phone

Nice site! This review is is a bit long winded and from my personal experiences through gardenbuildingsdirect. It is not a review of the overall quality of the companies; however, the sheds they (billyoh, gardenbuildingsdirect and kybotech.) provide are, in my opinion, not the quality that they appear to be. I wasn’t after a furniture finish, but I was expecting more than I got. After contacting GBD they have offered to replace any parts that are considerably damaged, but the general quality annoyed me.

GBD state on their website that they have a 14 day money back guarantee; however, what they fail to include on that returns page is that if it is not damaged and you choose to return your items, you will be paying £0.30/kg, which for my 7×7 shed costs around £58. It’s at their discretion if they accept it as damaged and they include this information in an order confirmation email that you receive after you have paid for your items. If you’re like me and don’t expect a confirmation of your order to contain something other than a receipt, think again.

There’s no way I was paying £58 and a possible £50 on top for returns so I decided to put it up. It took 8 hours just to erect the bloody thing as I had to take it down when partially completed to trim and retreat all the edges of the panels down so that everything actually fit together, as best as it could anyway as the framing was severely warped in places. At one point, I honestly felt like ripping it all apart as whoever assembled it didn’t even tap the panels down to engage the tongue and groove properly. Today I’m going to fill all the holes, repair the split boards and try to get the best fit on the warped doors I can.

My advice is that if you simply want a box for your garden, go for it; however, if you’re wanting and expecting something of quality and security, avoid them completely.

BTW, places like trust pilot remove some negative reviews for absolutely zero reasons. I’ve had several of my reviews on there be removed under some rule of theirs, so there have possibly plenty more negative reviews of their products.

Shed was delivered with a damaged roof initially, we had the replacement sent out for next day delivery after fighting for it and my fiancé took the day off work on the Saturday to build the shed. We managed to put the base and walls up then came to put the roof on, only to find out that two of the panels for the roof were not the correct ones and were both too narrow and too short to fit on the 10×6 shed. There is a storm forecast for this week and we have no roof on the shed, our mechanical and electrical equipment is now at risk of damage and the flooring we have chosen to put in the shed and would be perfectly fine in a shed with a roof is now at risk of severe damage if it rains and still this company is making excuses as to why they can’t send out the correct panels next day despite them having done it once and there being a lot of same day couriers about. The customer service are obviously just reading through a script and trying to get them to understand the severity of the issue is one of the hardest things I have done for a while. DO NOT RISK THIS HEADACHE!!!! Even trying to get through the customer service is a nightmare, if you choose the wrong phone option it hangs up on you!!!

This is an awful service and I recommend you save yourself the headache and go elsewhere. The shed was delivered into the neighbours garden despite the deliverer being shown where to put it. As the customer, you have the responsibility for ensuring that all parts have been delivered – I’ve never known a company make the customer responsible for the product they have paid for. We have had numerous issues over many weeks now with getting it assembled with the assembly people being utterly unreliable, almost never showing up on the time or day agreed and phoning us to cancel at the last minute. I would strongly advise you go elsewhere.

Appalling customer service. I’d advise pay a little more a company who placed more value in the customer.
Order was taken over the phone, the person taking my sale was very helpful. Then when delivery was due it transpired my delivery address was taken wrong and attempted delivery to my billing address. Actually contacting customer services to rectify the problem was hard work, call the customer service number and any option selected takes you to an automated pre set response, I eventually just called the sales line and got them to put me through. Where someone from customer service did help me pretty quickly to be fair, but getting through was made far too hard!!
Then when it eventually did arrive the painted wall add on product turned out to be a tin of paint, and the add on product padlock was incredibly poor quality for the price tag. Also some of the wood was cut poorly, and one part was heavily bowed, I cudnt wait to replace as I had it half built so clammed and heavily screwed it in (any one day it’s little carpentry knowledge would struggle). When I flagged the miss selling of the paint over the phone they wanted me to pay for return claiming it’s made clear they don’t pre paint, which they do on. The website, however I was a phone order. I gave up with the back and forth on it as they are clearly a company with no pride in customer saticifaction, and mark up on add on products is probably hugely profitable to them anyway.
All being said a massive shame, had their customer service been much better I may have been more satisfied with the ok product. Pay a bit more and go with a company carrying a better reputation for customer service.

Very poor item with a shoddy afterservice

I was excited when I stumbled across this company however the product isn’t as described as all panels are either warped or misshaped. I though get this was due to it being a natural material but made putting together interesting.

Thinking ahead I generally thought with it being a natural product it might conform and sort however my issues have since worsened to the point I reached out for help from the company. This came in a response of its out of warranty due to factors which aren’t strictly true!? It’s seems they like to take your money yet aren’t willing to help afterwards
Plus they avoid certain elements such as the felt roof looking very poor and the treated floor caving in!?

Just to update, they use every which way possible to avoid sorting the resolution to the point stating that a concrete slab base is inadequate and that it should be purely a concrete base and that a treated floor that has collapsed is at fault of the base being slabs?!?! They say the misshaped wood is actually an issue with the fact it was treated 6 months ago by them and as it has been wet it hasn’t been done yet it’s my fault. The felt on the roof is very very poor yet they avoid that question everytime. All they keep saying is I can buy spares!!! I don’t want bloody spares I want a shed that’s described on the add and not a substandard second

BillyOh Expert Tongue and Groove Pent Workshop 14 x 8

When I ordered My workshop, I chose a delivery date of the 20th, on the 15th (Sunday night) I received a text to say my delivery would be the 16th, on logging into my account the notification told me I was now unable to change this, I msg’d your customer services & was instructed i could refuse the delivery if i was unable to take it, at this stage we had not laid the base for our workshop as we were expecting it on the 20th & i was due to be out most if not all of the 16th.

On the morning of the 16th I received a2nd msg saying I had refused delivery, I had not, someone at GBD had done this… I spent the next hour trying to get hold of an operator to find out what was happening, the phone options system gives people the run around, deliberately ending calls directing people to the website, I had to chose completely irreverent options in order to get through to an operator…that operator then had to transfer me to different departments, I will be reporting this to trading standards as you don’t make it easy for anyone to get hold of you & your operators from the non UK based call center just read from scripts giving standard replies, there was no real help to a problem.

When i did get through I spoke to a operator with basic English skills, it took far too long to establish my delivery should have been on the 20th, as far as she was concerned I had refused the delivery, there had not been any delivery… when I requested the delivery to be put back on the 20th she tried to charge me £30, I had already requested this date with my order, I was not going to pay again for the delivery date I had already selected. I had to refuse to pay this multiple times, no reason or apology was given i was told if i did not want to pay i would receive the shed on the next available day but she did not know when that would be.

what is the point of picking & charging clients for delivery dates if you are going to completely ignore them?

In the end my workshop arrived on the 18th i was given no warning about this delivery, luckily I was in, the driver explained when he saw the order sheet “delivery on 20th” that, and I quote “they don’t give a **** mate, they just send them out as the choose, that date means nothing, few people get them on the day they want & that’s just luck”

Onto the workshop building, quite frankly I’m amazed i could put it together, the quality of construction is far worse then the quality of the materials which i would classed as damp fire wood, i have assembled 4 sheds in my life time & have been a wood worker for 14 years, it would have been quicker & easier to build my own from scratch, it would have been from far better materials for the cost. I ordered a pre made building as i have limited time, the idea was it would be the quicker option, this was not the case in the end.

Non of the panels were square, they were impossible to get them to line up correctly, they cant have been made with templates or any tooling that allows consistency, sides cut shot, T&G cut long, I had to half disassemble 3 of them just to get it something like, I would have taken more apart but they start to disintegrate…. I’m very glad i didn’t order a floor as the ones included or could be upgraded to were incredibly thin, we used 18mm OSB on 3.2’s instead, this was cut to size and square having been cut on our panel saw in the joinery workshop were I work… the workshop would not sit on it, not only was it out of square no matter what we did, the dimensions were off we had to re make it to get it together… the roof was very much the same, when all put together there were gaps & holes in the panels i could put 2-3 fingers through.

The contents of the bags, the wood & screws were all soaked, the bags were full of water, our instructions were soaking wet we had to dry them out to use them, parts were rusting & again the quality of the wood & timber is all shocking, even pilot drilling everything didn’t stop splits, its just poor stuff. about 30% of the roof T&G has splits in it before we even came to used them, we had to glue them back together, given how wet the wood is it would not surprise me if shrinkage does not cause us further roof problems down the line.

Finally we got it together something like, a few hand size gaps in sections & corners as the frames were so out of square or were just so warped, several times during the build i had considered stopping, returning it … but the simple fact is by the time we had realized how bad it was it was all unpacked and in progress, access was limited where were were putting it up & it was just as big a job to take it down & re pack it as it was to keep going… it had taken half a day to go through all the parts & another half day to get 4 walls standing .

The next issue i discovered was when i walked into the shed for the first time after putting the roof trusses in, I’m 6ft tall, and could only just stand in between them, the listing states that the shed is 1.76 to the eves at the shallowest part and 2.06m to the ridge, its advertised as EXTRA TALL… this is complete garbage & false advertising… mine was 1.69 to the eves, i could not move around in this workshop without stooping or receiving a concussion every time I moved sideways… in the end i had to raise the roof another 4″ to make it just usable. id have raised it more but i was now using materials i had bought for other tasks to make my purchase fit for use, this product as it stands is not suitable for anything but a mediocre storage shed, you could do no work in it unless you are about 5 foot 5.

After a further 3 days of wrestling with it, and modifying repairing it i have now got a workshop that’s usable, its cost me an additional £100 or so in materials & way too much time, and I’m now able to line it out with 18mm OSB, all in all its been an over priced, “low cost” workshop that i would have been better off buying a more expensive shed from another UK manufacturer (these are not made in the UK) it would have saved me time & money for a better product that fits together, I’m kicking myself about that now, i will be logging complaints with Trading standards and putting up this review elsewhere as i don’t want anyone else to suffer the shoddy service & appalling product i have had to make right. they really are not fit for Billy OH & Garden buildings direct are selling them as.

We have suffered a number of problems with our BillyOh 5000 10×10 summerhouse for £1089. Our first email has so far been ignored.
    1. The size being wrongly stated. The building had specifications for the floor size. We built our floor accordingly as we wanted a stronger floor. However, the summerhouse turned out to be much smaller than described. Instead of 10×10 it was 9’8” x 9’11 external size. This meant it would not drop over the edge of the flooring. We were required to dismantle part of the building in order to reduce the size of the flooring. This caused a substantial amount of time wasted and inconvenience.
    2. The purlin/truss pack was missing. I was required to drive twice 21 miles to my nearest timber stockists to purchase suitable replacements. Each trip taking 45 minutes, but better than waiting any number of days waiting for them to send.
    3. Many of the tongue and groove panels were very poorly made. Some with one nail, others with three nails.
    4. The facia strips were too short.
    5. The cloaking strips were too short (although from their images) it seems they are happy for them not to cloak the full length of the panel joints.
    6. The roofing felt had holes and tears on the first 2 feet of the roll. The roll subsequently being too short to complete the job.
    7. There are a number of small splits and other small areas of damage, which their descriptions attempt to suggest are perfectly ok. I feel it simply indicates poor quality shoddy goods with little care for quality control.
    8. Other minor irritations include all the screws and nails etc dumped into one pack. Stock numbers stapled to each panel etc. Causing bothersome additional effort in picking and preparing prior to assembly. The instructions are written and illustrated on cheap photocopy sheets and are too small to be as clear as they could have been if they had been more carefully produced.

All in all, I think we have bought a cheap shoddy shed and are disappointed with it’s tackiness. I needed two sheds and will not be buying the second one from them. The business will be placed with one of their competitors. Garden Buildings Direct have lost another sale of approx £2500. Serves them right.

During the sales process the staff were all very helpful and gave lots of info – only I found later this was built on fabrication of the truth. I was offered an upgraded base for £55, I questioned whether the shed had a floor anyway and was told it did but this base would help the structure so I paid for this extra.
I was also offered an upgraded security lock. I questioned whether there was a lock and was told there was so I declined the upgrade.
Upon delivery I built the shed inc the base which took 15-20 hours in total. When it was built it was clear from the instructions and look of the shed the floor was missing. I questioned GBD who told me this wasn’t included and I needed to buy this myself not from them. THey have confirmed they “got confused and were misunderstood on my original sale”.
I am pursuing the company for false sale of goods currently and would not recommend their use from my experience.

I am incredibly disappointed with the abysmal customer service provided by Garden Buildings Direct. My experience has been nothing short of a nightmare from start to finish.

Four weeks ago, I ordered a summer house, parting with a substantial amount of £2500. Since then, it has been radio silence from the company. Despite numerous attempts to get an update on my order, no one can tell me when it will arrive. The call handlers I’ve spoken to have been unhelpful and downright rude, providing no useful information and often fobbing me off with vague assurances.

To make matters worse, the manager, who promised to call me back, has failed to do so repeatedly. The lack of accountability and transparency is shocking. I was told that contacting their production team to get a lead time is not possible. This is unacceptable for a company that claims to value its customers.

Overall, this has been the worst service I have ever experienced. I am left £2500 out of pocket with no idea if or when I will receive my summer house. I strongly advise anyone considering doing business with Garden Buildings Direct to look elsewhere. Save yourself the frustration and find a company that actually respects its customers.

Not to mention all the inconvenience it’s caused my old sheds been down was, I’ve had to store things of all places in my greenhouse which I can’t use had cover with tarpaulin keep leaky rain out and that’s kept blowing off just one asshole, do they not realise folk have to book workman to erect and then if there’s issues with parts ,or real bad weather delays delays ,and my holiday starts just 2 days after it’d sposed be coming ,afraid I’m thinking of just cancelling after reading many many bad reviews onvarious diff sites we all can’t be wrong it’s a bad firm no brownie points from me.!!!

AVOID this company. I bought a log cabin in August, took 5 weeks to receive it. Parts missing. Tried for 6 weeks to get them delivered with no luck. They just lie to you in the hope you will give up. Eventually we agreed that I would get the parts made in a nearby sawmill, which I did. However when it came to paying me back THEY REFUSED! They’re despicable. Shame on you. They never call you. I must’ve spent 30 hours on the phone and sent 50 emails. If you have the misfortune of having bought something, the Customer Support Manager is Carlo Datu (public information). He won’t speak to you but will hide behind his poor support team. Don’t waste your life. Can’t wait to see the counter comment from them.

Ordered on the 9th September. Notified that delivery would be in January-only after I started a dispute through paypal.
Notified of refund from Paypal on the 27th January
No greenhouse after they had my money for 20 weeks. Now advertising delivery at 3 to 4 weeks!

This review says Updated July 2025, they moved from their Sutton-On-Trent location in 2007?
    Says 2000+ reviews with a 6.9/10 with 52% giving 5 stars, I don’t know when they had 2000 reviews but they’re now at 13,000 reviews, 2.1/10, 49% 5 stars.
They’re other company BillyOh, who sells exactly the same products as far as I can tell, has 4000 reviews, 1.9/10.
    Just saying
