Shed Type And Roof Size
It really is quite amazing how Shed-Plus are able to keep changing up the design of their impressive Champion sheds. This one we are looking at today, the 10′ x 8′ Shed-Plus Champion Heavy Duty Apex Double Door Shed really does have a great look and thanks to the, 8 feet of width and 9 feet 11 inches of depth will work well as a workspace or even as an area where you can store a whole lot of items and declutter the house and garden. The timber used in the construction of this structure has been put through a pretty intense pressure treatment process to make it extra strong and long lasting. Inside the shed, you get a few inches extra headroom thanks to there being elevated eaves. At the highest point of the shed it is a very impressive, 7 feet 11 inches and even the lowest part is a respectable, 5 feet 8 inches.
The apex roof is going to do an incredible job of keeping what you have in the shed nice and dry. The boards are 12 mm tongue and groove which have a lovely look to them that goes with the rest of the inside of the shed, but they are also strong enough so that if Jack Frost gives us a brutal winter it can take the weight of a lot of snow. On top of these boards we have mineral felt, but no ordinary budget type of felt. Sparing no expense, Shed-Plus have used 20 kg mineral felt on this shed.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
How Shed-Plus make their tongue and groove shiplap cladding as smooth as they do really is a mystery to us, but how they do it does not really matter. All that matters is that this is some of the nicest cladding we have seen and it really does give the shed an expensive and top of the line kind of look. At 12 mm thick the cladding is also very strong and due to the way it has been put together there is no way for rain to get inside.
The whole shed will have a very solid feel to it thanks to the frame that is keeping it all together. Made with that fantastic, pressure treated timber, the frame is 34 mm x 35 mm and that alone would make it impressive. But there is more to it than just that, you see the end panels of the frame have been given some extra support in the form of cross braces which greatly enhance the strength of it.
Flooring is just as high quality as the rest of the shed, actually when we think about it this really is a shed that is top of the line from top to bottom. The flooring is tongue and groove boarding that is 12 mm thick and it can take plenty of weight. The boards are not alone as they are joined by pressure treated floor joists which raise the floor a few inches and also protect it from getting rotten.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
The pressure treating of the wood does make it stronger than the wood you get on a regular shed, but you will still want to give this a coating of wood treatment once you have installed the shed and then once a year after this. Doing this will keep that smooth cladding looking fantastic for the whole life of the shed.
As this is made so well, Shed-Plus feel comfortable giving you a 15 year guarantee with the shed.
Doors And Windows
The 10′ x 8′ Shed-Plus Champion Heavy Duty Apex Double Door Shed has one incredible set of double doors. With the doors open you have around 5 feet of width and 5 feet 11 inches of height. This is one of the largest double doors out there so getting things out and then tidying them back up again is not going to see you have to wrestle with them through the door. The doors themselves are made very well, first of all they have extra framing which makes them more sturdy and they are kept in place with some heavy duty hinges to prevent them from sagging over the years.
One side of the shed has two large toughened glass windows that can be opened. These work very well at letting in light as well as fresh air. Some much needed fresh air if you plan on doing work in here.
Security And Privacy
While this is a shed that has a very inviting appearance it still is very secure in its design. Those large double doors have a locking mechanism on them to keep the shed securely closed up. We are sure that once you have locked the door and seen how sturdy it is, you will feel more than comfortable putting heavy things inside of here.
You would think that as the shed has two large windows, we would be saying that the shed lacks privacy, but this is not the case. You see with those two windows being on one side, you could position this shed so that the nosey neighbour who walks past your house 3-4 times a day, cannot peek inside. Or of course, you could always just put some blinds or curtains inside if you do have those windows facing the street.
Customisation Options And Extras
Shed-Plus do not let you tinker with the design of their Champion sheds, but as they look so good we are sure you are not going to mind. One thing though that you can do is to brighten up or darken the timber with some light or dark wood treatment.
Three extras are available with this shed, first up we have the slate roof. We love this slate roof, but at £309.99 it is very expensive. For those of you using this as a workshop then you will be interested to know that they offer a workbench for £106.99. This is a high quality bench and it has the same kind of design as the shed so it fits in very well. The last extra is an installation service which is available for, £149.00.
We had a feeling before we started this review that this was going to be a very high quality shed and we were not disappointed.
Longevity of Materials
Taking care of this shed is really not much effort, but with this little bit of effort, the shed is going to be with you for a very long time. We can see most people getting 20 or more years out of this shed.
This is an ideal amount of storage for most gardens and along with the floor space, you have plenty of room upwards that you can use also.
Ease of Installation
Be nice to your friends because you will need one of them to help you build this. 3-5 hours as long as you follow the instructions will be how long this takes the average person to build and to be fair it is not the most intense DIY job in the world so we are sure you will be fine.
While this is far from cheap, we do feel that you are still getting very good value for money here as the shed is a respectable size and is also made with just incredible materials.
Final Thoughts: We were very impressed with the 10' x 8' Shed-Plus Champion Heavy Duty Apex Double Door Shed and honestly have a hard time thinking of anything negative to say. Of course the price is just under a thousand pounds which is not cheap, but at the end of the day you have to decide if you want a cheap shed that is going to last a couple of years and potentially have issue after issue. Or you could spend more and get what is really a Rolls Royce of a shed that requires very little maintenance and is going to give you 20 plus years of service. While it may take a while to save up for a shed like this, if you do we are sure you are going to be very happy with this.
