This beautiful building is one of the larger sizes in the Walton’s Dutch Barn range and it offers a brilliant amount of storage space. Tongue and groove construction features throughout, with the exterior walls even featuring superior Shiplap cladding.
The manufacturer has thought of everything with this stylish shed. For privacy and security, there are no windows and the double doors have a top quality Rim lock. Then there’s the extra thick, rounded and planed framing as well as the Shiplap cladding for longevity. You also have extra tall eaves and an apex roof to provide comfort and higher interior storage space. Then there’s the overall attractive style of the shed. It really does have a host of great all-round benefits.
The way the building is designed, it offers a lot more storage space than your average 10×8 shed. The fact it can also be used for other purposes, such as a workshop or a home gym also help to add to its overall value.
Side to side floor bearers are also supplied, helping to keep the building slightly off the ground. These small bearers not only help to prevent the floor from rotting over time, but they also give the shed a sturdier support.

Let's Take a Closer Look...
This is a superior quality, attractive Dutch Barn style wooden garden shed designed with heavyweight storage in mind. It’s particularly large size, along with its exceptional quality floor also makes it ideal as a workshop. Offering complete privacy while you work, this windowless building offers incredible security and comes with extraordinary features to ensure it lasts for many years to come.
Roof height – 2.62m
Eaves height – 1.73m
Door height – 1.78m
Door width – 1.35m
Depth – 3.03m
Width – 2.43m
You’ll find Dutch barn style buildings come with larger measurements than standard garden storage sheds. They are built to be noticed and this is reflected in the extra tall eaves and roof design. The roof in particular measures a lot higher than similar sized buildings, giving it not only more interior height, but also a more dominant design.
As the roof and the eaves are taller, it gives the manufacturers the opportunity to make the doors taller too and that’s exactly what Waltons have done here. Compared to other buildings, the doors on this one are slightly taller, which makes gaining access to the storage space a lot easier. You can also move taller items into the shed without worrying about whether they will fit through the doors.
The generous depth ensures you are left with a great amount of storage space, whilst the width makes it ideal for installation in medium sized gardens.
Roof and Floor
What we like about Dutch barn style sheds is that although they feature the popular apex roof, it has a slightly different shape to standard garden sheds. Take a look and you’ll notice it has more of a hexagon design. This is more of a style difference, rather than a practical one. It still provides the same level of resistance against rainwater and like other sheds in the Waltons range, it comes covered with heavy duty sand felt. So no matter what the weather, you can guarantee the roof will withstand the elements and look as good as new for years to come. It also offers great strength thanks to the 12mm tongue and groove construction.
So that it can comfortably store heavy equipment, tools and machinery, the floor has also been created with 12mm tongue and groove materials. It’s also partly why the building comes at a slightly increased cost compared to similar competitor sheds. A lot of garden sheds come with solid sheet board floors in order to make them more affordable. However, you often end up having to spend extra money upgrading it so the initial cost saving benefits are often short lived. So we like you don’t need to worry about upgrading with this building. The price you initially pay gives you more than enough strength to store whatever you need to.
Cladding and Frame
The Shiplap tongue and groove cladding helps to push this into the premium level shed category. Known to be the most durable and best quality style of cladding, it offers great water resistance. Unlike standalone tongue and groove cladding or overlap, Shiplap benefits from extra water protection thanks to the slight groove that is indented in each panel. This channels rainwater away from the timber, down onto the floor below. It also benefits from a seamless design; giving a more professional, smooth finish.
Waltons haven’t just stopped with the benefits of Shiplap either. The manufacturer has also added tongue and groove benefits to the shed too. This basically means they have built the shed with an expansion gap, just like you often get with laminate and solid wood flooring. This gap is there in case the timber changes over time due to either moisture or heat. One thing we really like about Shiplap cladding is that it is not prone to warping like cheaper, weaker cladding. So there is a limited risk of the timber changing in the first place. However, it does give you peace of mind that an expansion gap is there just in case.
Usually there’s not much to say about the framing of a shed because the majority tend to feature standard 28mm x 28mm framing. However, this barn style shed benefits from a rounded and planed frame. This not only makes it safer to build with little risk of splinters, but it also gives it a more seamless finish and helps to boost the shed’s moisture resistance.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
Treatment is not something you can get away from with wooden storage sheds. Even premium Shiplap clad sheds like this one, they still require minimum treatments to ensure they stay weather resistant. We generally recommend using spirit based treatments, but because of the high quality cladding, water treatments will provide more than ample protection. Before choosing a treatment type it’s worth understanding the pros and cons of both options.
Water based treatments are cheaper and therefore often more popular than spirit treatments. They also come in a fantastic choice of colours. They offer high quality protection on the surface of the timber, ensuring even heavy downpours won’t leak through. The downside is they will only last for a year minimum. As only the surface is protected, there’s also the chance that rainwater and heavy winds could wear down the treatment before the year is out. Depending upon the brand you choose, this shouldn’t occur providing you’ve used a high quality treatment.
Spirit based treatments are what we will always recommend. They soak through and penetrate into the wood, forming a complete barrier as they do. This barrier features on both the surface of the timber, as well as within it. So if the surface layer was somehow worn away due to severe weather, the timber would still be protected thanks to the inner barrier. Compared to water treatments, these don’t come in many colour variations. They are also slightly more expensive. What we love about these spirit treatments however is that they don’t always need to be applied annually when they are used on Shiplap clad buildings. So they could potentially save time with maintenance.
Like most of Walton’s sheds, this features a 10 year anti-rot warranty. However, you will need to make sure you continue to treat the shed in order to qualify for the warranty protection.
Doors and Windows
For us, one of the main benefits of barn style sheds is the huge barn style doors. The double doors featured on this building offer an outstanding amount of space to transfer even the bulkiest and most awkward shaped equipment. Whether you’re hoping to store gym equipment, gardening tools, lawnmowers or even a quad bike; you’ll easily be able to get them in and out of the building.
Another thing to like about these doors is the fact they feature the sturdy ‘Z’ shaped bracing. This protects both the lower and upper part of the door, eliminating the risk of it sagging. We also notice the bracing and ledge features are also thicker than they are on standard sheds. So they actually offer more protection in comparison to similar buildings.
There aren’t any windows on this particular shed, but there are similar Dutch Barn style models available with a window option. The only problem that the windowless design poses is that the shed won’t have any source of lighting. So if you were to use it to work in, you would have to buy an electrical pack to add both light, as well as power to the building.
Security and Privacy
Security and privacy have both been given a lot of thought with this shed. As it doesn’t come with windows, you’re guaranteed absolute maximum privacy. This is especially beneficial if you plan on storing anything valuable, or if you are going to be using the shed to work in.
Security wise, as well as exceptionally thick cladding and doors, the shed comes with a Rim lock. This is a good quality lock and in our opinion it looks good too. So whilst you cannot stop the most determined thieves from breaking into the shed, its security does put off the majority.
As this large shed already comes with an impressive, high quality design, it’s one of the few buildings that doesn’t really need customisation. However, you do have three options available to you. The one we feel you’ll most benefit from is the treatments.
The shed comes with a free 5L tub of water based Golden Brown treatment. As mentioned earlier, you can get away with just using water based treatments on Shiplap sheds if you reapply them every year. Due to the size of this building it is likely you will need two tubs of treatment. So you can stick with the Golden Brown, or opt for an entirely different colour. Holly, Seagrass, Lavender and Golden Oak are just some of the other options available.
Superior fibreglass roofing felt is another customisation you can take advantage of. We’d actually recommend this as the heavy duty felt included with the building doesn’t appear to be overly strong. As it is mineral felt, it is also prone to deteriorate over time. The fibreglass felt doesn’t have this problem and it provides a thicker layer of protection. It is available in both standard charcoal as well as olive green.
Your last customisation option is the extra strength floor support pack. Personally we feel it would be a waste of time adding this to the building. It already boasts a tongue and groove floor and Walton’s also supply a standard support pack free with the shed. However, if you still feel the floor could benefit from additional support then it’s good to have this option available. The pack contains thick floor joists which slot between the standard joists included on the shed. So it’s very easy to install and provides an instant improvement in strength and stability.
Whilst customisation may not be required, there are a few extras we would recommend. The first is the Walton’s 10×8 Portabase. Giving you a solid, flat surface to build the shed on top of, it helps to maximise the building’s stability. It also makes it easier and quicker to assemble the shed. Helping to lengthen its durability, this may be an expensive extra, but its benefits are definitely worth the additional cost.
A common extra Walton’s offer with the majority of its garden sheds is a 49mm padlock. Totally waterproof, it does come with some fairly impressive benefits. However, the Rim lock included on the shed is a high quality lock and already provides great security. So whilst it isn’t technically needed, it could still be a good investment if you want to make the shed as secure as possible. It also comes with a staple and hasp.
You’ll notice Draper accessories are available too. These are a selection of power tools and DIY equipment. They may be useful, but again they aren’t essential.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
This is one of the highest quality buildings in the Waltons range. Made from the highest quality cladding, we like that even the floor comes with a tongue and groove design.
Longevity Of materials9/10
In terms of longevity, this is one of the hardest wearing sheds available. Its high quality cladding and extra thick framing ensures the building stays strong and solid for many years to come. Whilst it does require treating, a spirit based treatment can limit the amount of times you need to treat the shed. All in all it boasts excellent longevity.
This is one of the larger sheds in the Dutch Barn collection and it boasts an incredible amount of storage space. Not only do you have a very generous amount of floor space, but you can also add shelving if required.
Ease of installation7.5/10
Installation can be made easier if you invest in the Waltons 10x8 Portabase. Generally speaking it is a simple installation process. However, it will take quite a lot of time to assemble. The panels are heavier because they are created with thick high quality cladding. They are also pretty large due to the size of the building. So don’t expect it to take anything less than half a day to assemble.
Value for money10/10
This shed may come at a higher cost than other similar sized buildings, but it provides sensational value for money. It offers a very attractive design, plenty of storage space and incredible durability.
Final Thoughts: This large storage shed adds a real country and cosy feel to the garden. With its unique barn design, you benefit from a substantial amount of storage space. Most noteworthy is the fantastic height the building provides. You can store anything in here no matter how tall, heavy or bulky. The included Rim lock is a great security feature and we love that both the roof and floor also benefit from tough tongue and groove cladding. If you’re searching for a strong, attractive, reliable and practical storage space then this is a brilliant choice. It’s one of the most stylish outdoor buildings available from Waltons and we highly recommend it.
