This mid-size pent shed offers both a low affordable cost and a good quality spacious interior. It is supplied with all fixings, felt, styrene and easy to follow instructions. It is part of the Windsor Overlap Pent range and comes with a free basecoat treatment.
The pent roof is designed to not only protect the building from rainwater, but also with height restrictions in mind. For example, an apex shed cannot be installed in front of other buildings, or underneath low-hanging trees.
A small fixed styrene glazed window is included, offering natural lighting and adding aesthetic appeal to the building. What’s really great about this shed is the fact that the sides of the shed are interchangeable. This means you can assemble it in a way that best fits your needs.
The single door comes with strong bracing to protect it from daily wear and tear. There is a turn button fastening attached which keeps the door closed when the shed isn’t in use. Solid sheet materials are included for the floor and the roof, and pressure treated floor joists are included for stability.
This is a basic shed that has been designed with general garden storage in mind. If you’re looking for a practical building with a low, affordable price tag then this is a good option.

Let's Take a Closer Look...
This is a basic wooden no-frills overlap storage shed, designed with medium weight storage in mind. Interchangeable sides give you flexibility to erect the shed according to your preferences and requirements. Due to the weakness of the floor we do not recommend using the shed as a workshop. However, if it is simple garden storage you’re looking for, this is a great choice.
Ridge height – 6’8”
Eaves height – 6’0
Door height – 5’10”
Door width – 2’2”
Depth – 5’1”
Width – 7’0
This is a fairly large sized pent shed compared to a lot of other comparable models. The ridge and eaves height ensure you have plenty of head space to walk around, while the height of the door is also noteworthy. The doors width is pretty standard, but it still gives you more than enough space to transfer bulky, tall items. It features the same wide design as the majority of pent sheds have, with a lesser depth. This makes it best suited to longer gardens.
Roof and Floor
Whilst we generally love most of the buildings on offer from Shed Store, we do feel this one is a little disappointing in terms of the roof and floor. Both are created from solid sheet materials. This isn’t shocking considering the majority of overlap sheds come with solid sheet materials in order to keep costs down. However, compared to a lot of sheds offered by the manufacturer, this is one of the cheaper variations. The floor measures a standard 10mm thick. The reason why it is so disappointing is because there is no option to upgrade. So this means it is only suitable for light or at best, medium weight, storage. It does come with pressure treated floor joists however which help to boost its rigidity a little.
The pent roof does offer a space-saving quality, but the felt it is covered with is pretty thin. Again, this isn’t unusual as most modern sheds these days come with a low quality felt. However, whilst some manufacturers give you the option to upgrade, this one doesn’t. What you see with this shed is what you get. Now that isn’t to say it isn’t worth buying. It still provides a reliable storage area for general gardening essentials. However, we just would have liked to have seen a little more strength added to the floor in particular.
Cladding and Frame
This shed is made from 8mm overlap cladding. It is the most affordable type of cladding available and therefore doesn’t offer as much weather resistance as tongue and groove. However, it does provide a very rustic design. You will see that overlap sheds like this one feature a very rough style. The boards are nailed over the top of one another just like you commonly see with garden fences. We personally like this look, but some may find it a little simplistic. The good news is you can change the colour of the building with coloured treatments offered by the Shed Store.
It is important to note that whilst it may not be as naturally tough as other cladding types, overlap is more than capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions. You just need to make sure you treat it properly. When treated this cladding type will last at least 10 years. So whilst it is offered at a budget cost, you still get a lot of reliability.
One thing that you should be wary of however, is that the overlap can start to warp if it is built in a sunny part of the garden. Temperature changes throughout the year can cause trouble with warping and unlike tongue and groove, overlap cladding doesn’t have an expansion gap to protect the building. For this reason we’d advise erecting it in a shaded area.
Inside the shed there is 28mm x 28mm framing. This is a standard size frame, but it offers a lot of support and stability.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
This shed comes with the benefit of having a free basecoat treatment applied. However, the Shed Store do recommend applying an additional treatment once you have built it. This will help to ensure it benefits from long lasting weatherproof protection. We’d recommend following this advice and using a high quality preservative. That’s because overlap sheds aren’t as durable as Shiplap or tongue and groove. The cladding is weaker and more resistant to weather damage. So treating it will give you reassurance that it will last for a long time to come.
The good news is there are a lot of treatments offered to you as extras. You can choose from great colours too such as Ivy Green and Red Cedar. The thing with overlap buildings is that they don’t have the most stylish look. So adding a coat or two of colour will really help to give the shed a more stylish finish.
One of the benefits of this shed is that it comes with a full 10 year anti rot guarantee. So if you treat it annually, you can be sure it will last at least a decade.
Doors and Windows
As you can see from the picture, the shed comes with both a styrene glazed window and a single door. Both of these features surprise us in terms of quality. For example, the single door has a braced design. Put simply, it is strengthened to reduce the chances of it becoming damaged or sagging over time. This is a welcome feature on such a low cost shed. Many overlap buildings don’t feature braced doors so that is one thing that makes this really stand out. It also comes with a turn button fastening, or ‘butterfly catch’ as it is commonly referred to. This is a small latch that stops the door from blowing open when not in use.
The styrene glazed window is also great thanks to the shatterproof nature of the glazing. This makes it a safer choice if you have young children and as it also makes the window more difficult to break, it adds to its security. It is a fixed window so you will not be able to open it. However, it still supplies natural lighting which is another benefit as you won’t need a torch to find what you’re looking for.
Security and Privacy
This shed isn’t really constructed with security in mind. However, the good news is there are a few ways you can improve this. Fitting an alarm on the door wouldn’t cost too much money and it would really help to ensure your storage is safe. The turn button fastening will help to keep children out of the building, but not thieves.
Privacy could be a potential problem if you’re hoping to store something valuable in the shed. The small styrene glazed window cannot be covered by curtains or a blind because the overlap cladding won’t support their weight. You could cover anything of value up, but unless you invest in better security for the building, you would be taking a huge risk leaving anything expensive in here.
Customisation Options and Extras
The Shed Store give you just one customisation option with this shed and that’s the ability to change the colour of the building. Through coloured treatments you can alter the appearance of the shed, giving it a unique and attractive design. There are four different colours on offer including Red Cedar and Ivy Green, as well as a light or dark brown. All of these treatments come in a 5L tub and are 100% safe to be used around plants and animals. They are water based and provide a good level of protection against the
Though there are few customisations available, there are a number of extras we’d recommend. The DIY Portabase Timber Base Kit is one we’d definitely recommend you to consider. It comes with high quality wooden spikes which fix the base to the ground. One of the most important things you need to ensure when erecting a shed is that it is built on top of an even and firm surface. This Portabase is a lot cheaper than concrete bases and it can be used the same day it is installed. Like the shed itself, this base comes with a 10 year anti-rot guarantee.
Though the shed does come with all fixings required, we’d also recommend investing in the DIY Assembly Assistance Tool Kit. It won’t just prove useful with the assembly of this building; it can also be used for any buildings you install in the future. It contains useful tools such as a 16 inch saw, paint brushes, hammer, spirit level, screwdriver, safety gloves and goggles.
Other extras you may be interested in include a stylish, high quality Bull Picador green wheelbarrow, various storage units and an outdoor water station.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
Overlap sheds aren’t built with supreme quality in mind. However, this one does comes dip treated so that adds to its strength and durability. All in all for the low price you pay, this is a surprisingly good quality shed.
Longevity Of materials8/10
Despite being dip treated, it is still recommended that you treat the shed after assembly and annually after that. This will help to ensure it lasts for the full 10 year guarantee. The solid floor materials aren’t the best quality, so if storing anything heavy you may find the floor doesn’t last as long as it should.
This shed is mainly suitable for small garden storage. It is a compact building, though it does offer a good amount of height considering it is a pent style building. The fact you can’t install shelves or hooks on the interior walls does lower its rating a little. However, if you only have a small amount of storage then you should find this shed has more than enough room to accommodate it.
Ease of installation9/10
This shed comes with much better and easier to follow instructions compared to a lot of other buildings. Therefore you should find installation pretty straight forward. It’s one of the easiest sheds to construct in the Shed Store range.
Value for money8/10
When you take all of the sheds benefits into account, you see you are getting great value for money. Its free dip treatment means you could potentially get away with only treating the shed every other year. This saves you a lot of money over the long term. Considering its budget price, you’re getting fantastic overall value for money.
Final Thoughts: This wooden storage shed is one of the more simplistic buildings offered by the Shed Store. It’s a ‘no frills’ shed that is created with light to medium weight storage in mind. However, whilst it is focused largely on budget, the building does have a few noteworthy features. One thing we like is that the timber has been basecoat treated. It is recommended you treat the shed again after construction, but it isn’t overly essential. A few things could be improved upon such as the security of the building and the strength of the floor. However, for what you pay you are getting a good quality building suitable for your gardening essentials.
