Let's Take a Closer Look...
Shed Type and Roof Size
This is a large wooden pent style corner shed. The pent roof is a unique selling point as the majority of sheds tend to come with an apex style roof. The main benefit of this design is the fact it can be placed underneath trees or by a garden fence for plan staging. This model has been designed to save space and easily slot into the corner of the garden. However, whilst it saves space in the garden, its design ensures that the amount of internal storage isn’t compromised. The roof also comes with free heavy duty mineral felt to keep it protected against the unpredictable British weather.
The width of the building measures 1.95m and the depth is 1.95m. Double doors measure 1.68m in height and 0.96m in width.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
Shiplap tongue and groove cladding is featured throughout the building, offering a particularly strong and secure design. Sheds which feature Shiplap cladding are guaranteed to offer exceptional quality as well as excellent durability. It also has a more attractive appearance than overlap cladding and with the tongue and groove work, you also benefit from an expansion gap. This will prevent any changes that occur due to moisture or temperature changes, from affecting the strength of the structure.
A lot of attention has also been paid to the framing of the shed. The frame is an extremely important part of the design as it basically holds the shed together, giving it stability. The 28mm x 28mm framing has been rounded and double edged framing has been used on the corners. The rounded and planed aspect not only provides a better defence against moisture, but it also prevents splinters.
10mm Solid sheet board is provided for the floor which is fairly standard on modern sheds. The only thing we’d advise with this is not to store heavy belongings on top of it. You will find it doesn’t have the sturdiest design so it is definitely worth adding extra floor support if you do buy the shed.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
All wooden sheds need to be treated in order to maintain their weather-resistant qualities. Shiplap cladding is a lot more waterproof than overlap, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t need to be treated. In fact, if you’re hoping to benefit from Waltons 10 year anti-rot warranty, you are going to need to use a spirit based treatment when you have assembled the shed, as well as annually. There are some treatments you can use which don’t need to be applied every year. Waltons states that to meet its warranty requirements you have to follow the instructions provided with your chosen treatment.
Doors and Windows
A definite advantage of this shed is the double doors. They offer a great amount of space to enter the building, as well as to move things in and out when needed. A ledge design ensures quality and durability, while a butterfly catch is provided to keep the doors shut when not in use.
No windows are supplied with this model which is great for privacy. It will mean there is no natural lighting or ventilation in the shed, but that isn’t a problem for this kind of size. It would only be a problem if you plan on using the shed as a workspace. In this instance you would need to install an electrical pack.
Security and Privacy
Windowless sheds are well-known for their privacy benefits. This pent shed is certainly private, ensuring all of your belongings are kept out of view. This is a particularly important feature if your garden isn’t very private.
Some security is provided thanks to the thick Shiplap cladding. It isn’t easy to break into so that’s one advantage of this model. However, there isn’t a lock so this could present a problem as it leaves the shed vulnerable to thieves. Therefore we do recommend you buy a lock so you can store valuable items with peace of mind.
Customisation Options and Extras
While there are no unique customisation options, you do have a great choice of extras that can really improve the shed. It is likely you will want to improve the strength of the floor and the good news is you don’t have to spend additional money to do this. That’s because Waltons have supplied a free floor support kit with this model. The kit comes with 6 floor joists which slot perfectly between the existing joists for easy installation. If you feel this still isn’t sturdy enough then you can buy the extra strength floor support pack which is designed for withstanding the weight of heavy boxes and lawnmowers.
You are also given a free 5L Golden Brown treatment which is worth £24.99. As you need a treatment anyway, this saves you money if you’re happy with the colour. If not there are other colours available, but it makes sense to save money where you can.
Another upgrade that can be beneficial is the superior felt. Available in charcoal, the felt is made from high quality fiberglass and it offers a lot more protection than the felt included with the shed. However, this is an optional upgrade as the heavy duty felt is adequate enough to protect the building.
If you want to add security to the shed then you can also buy the weatherproof 49mm padlock. It comes with a staple and hasp for added protection. If you plan on using the shed as a work space then you might also like to invest in the draper accessories on offer.
Overall there is a good selection of extras available; you just need to be aware of the added costs.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
We can’t praise the quality of this shed enough. Attention to detail has been given to every aspect of the building.
Longevity of Materials7.7/10
Being made with Shiplap tongue and groove cladding gives you total reassurance that the shed will last a long time. It is more resistant to wear and tear than overlap cladding and is also more waterproof too. However, it does require treatments in order to maintain its longevity benefits.
We love that no storage space has been compromised to accommodate for the space-saving design of the shed. You should find it adequate enough to store most of your outdoor accessories.
Ease of Installation8/10
This is one of the easiest Waltons sheds to assemble and it features easy to follow instructions. However, all outdoor buildings require some form of heavy labour and this shed isn’t any different. It will need 2 people to assemble it safely and correctly and it will also take a few hours at least to install.
Value for Money8/10
For what you get, this shed is really reasonably priced. It is higher than overlap cladding but you have to take into account that it is more durable and secure. The regular treatment maintenance has to be taken into account but on the whole it does provide great value for money.
Final Thoughts: We recommend to anyone looking for a private place to store valuable equipment and tools. It is a high quality shed and boasts an impressive durability thanks to the tongue and groove cladding. Easy to install, you’ll soon have the building up and ready for use. However, it will need yearly treatments and you’ll also need to invest in a lock to keep the shed fully secure. Its corner design makes it ideal for smaller gardens and its attractive design is also a nice benefit.
