Shed Type, Roof Size
It’s rare that we review metal sheds of a similar price that offer as much storage space as this one. Because the substrate is non-combustible it also makes for a very versatile storage facility. It is of course, perfect for garden tools, equipment and mowers, but it could even be used as a weather protective shed in which to store a motorcycle or scooter.
The apex roof, in a subtle cream colour that is also replicated on the door, contrasts nicely with the mist green found elsewhere. Ensuring that rain is carried away rather than forming puddles, it also gives extra height, an area in which the shed already scores highly. The ridge height is 1.98m and the eaves height is 1.78m. The overall width of the shed is 2.45m and the overall depth is 1.85m, both of these measurements including the overhang.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
This was one of the lightest, and thinnest, forms of cladding that we see on a shed of this size, although at 0.30mm it is a little thicker than the cladding found on some other Shed Baron sheds, and yet that didn’t compromise its stability once it was constructed. That’s because the high tensile steel has been bonded with water repelling zinc through the use of hot dipped galvanisation. It means that the cladding is strong and resilient, especially as it’s supported by a galvanised frame that was noticeably thicker.
As with most metal sheds we review there was no floor, but we would have liked to see the inclusion of an anchor kit to attach the shed to a surface. Once a suitable set of screws have been acquired you’ll need to find a flat area of concrete or patio that measures at least 2.325 X 1.745m.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
The thing we most liked about this shed is the 20 year warranty the manufacturer provides against rust caused perforations. This really gives added value to the shed, particularly as we’re used to reviewing similarly sized sheds that are only covered for half that length of time. As always, there is no need to treat the shed once it’s in place, although we always advise people to look out for algae formation, and hose it away if necessary.
Doors and Windows
Another feature that we especially appreciated was the single hinged door, which was both wider and taller than we often find, measuring 0.67m and 1.73m respectively. What was best about the door, however, was its strength. Hinged doors can potentially be a weak spot on metal sheds, but this was braced and felt reassuringly weighty and solid.
Whilst there is no window in this shed, there is a good supply of fresh air thanks to the in-built ventilation. We really noticed the benefit of this once inside, and it should also help to keep condensation under control.
Security and Privacy
The doors features a pad bolt as standard, which can be used to fix it in a closed position. This in itself isn’t enough to make it secure, so we’d strongly recommend purchasing a shed padlock which can then be easily attached to the pad bolt. Whilst that aspect of security could be improved, we liked the fact that there are no windows as this improves both the privacy and security of a building that is likely to be used for storage purposes.
Customisation Options and Extras
We would much prefer to have seen the first optional extra, a set of Hilti screws, included with the shed, as it’s an essential item to affix the shed to a concrete base. Once purchased, the screws are rust resistant and include a drill bit of the right size.
Shelving options are also available for this shed, which we think are a smart purchase as they allow the owner to make use of the extra vertical room inside. A stand alone shelving unit can be purchased, or corner and rear shelving can be screwed directly onto the cladding itself for a more permanent fixture.
We are routinely impressed by the quality of components featured in Shed Baron metal sheds, and on this occasion the slightly thicker cladding, while still being lightweight, made the structure even more solid and stable.
Longevity Of materials
Timber shed owners can only dream of a shed that doesn’t need re-treating and yet will stay in perfect condition for at least 20 years, but that’s what this shed delivers.
This is the largest apex metal shed in the range, and the spacious dimensions are helped even further by the height as well as the width and depth.
Ease of installation
Simply because of its size and the number of components, you’ll need at least two people to put this together. We found that assembly takes a little over four hours.
Taking into account the high quality materials, good looks, and long warranty, this represents excellent value for money.
Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for a mid sized shed that you can install and then not have to worry about any longer, then this is a shed you should certainly be considering. It brings significant advantages over a timber shed, and you won’t have to compromise on appearance. The three coats of paint, uniformly applied inside and out, give a very pleasing appearance which won’t look out of place in any garden, and the paint also gives added protection against rain that is already helped by the hot dip galvanised cladding across all surfaces, as well as by the apex roof.
