This garden shed can be used for much more than storing a lawnmower and a few tools, thanks to the wide opening double doors. They allow the shed owner to make full use of the spacious interior, and taking equipment of any size or weight in and out becomes simplicity itself. This makes this garden building a flexible and highly useful addition to any property.
Based upon a truly classic design featuring solid overlap cladding, the shed looks just as good as it performs. Thanks to the high quality materials that Shed-Plus are known for, it looks much more expensive than it actually is. With a 10 year manufacturer’s guarantee against rot included as standard, it should stay looking good for years to come as well. It’s worth noting that this guarantee is dependent upon the shed owner applying regular preservative treatments, but this doesn’t detract from the excellent value for money offered.
An apex roof adds to the space available once inside the shed, as well as helping enhance its weather proofing capabilities. Whether rain hits the roof or walls of this shed, it will simply bounce off. This increases the longevity of the timbers, as well as protecting the contents inside the shed.

Let's Take a Closer Look...
Shed Type, Roof Size
We find that overlap sheds with apex roofs such as this one are becoming increasingly popular in the United Kingdom today, and that’s because they offer excellent protection against the elements while still providing good value to the consumer. Shed-Plus make a number of sheds in this style, but this is at the larger end of their range and stands out because of the double doors which open out at the front.
The apex roof is constructed of solid sheet OSM, which is then covered with black sand felt. Whilst the felt was not the thickest we’ve seen, it should be adequate as the sloping design of the roof itself helps carry water away. The height of the roof at its ridge is 2.14m with an eaves height of 1.54m. The shed depth is 2.42m and the width is 2.03m, both including the slight overhang. The double doors give excellent access to the interior with a height of 1.63m, and a width of 1.10m.
Cladding, Frame and Floor
We weren’t surprised to find overlap cladding on this shed, but we were initially concerned that it might make the structure as a whole feel less than secure. With the 8mm of cladding provided, however, it felt solid to the touch and should withstand the storms that it will be subjected to over the course of a year.
Standard 28 x 28mm framing is used, and again this provides an affordable frame that is still fit for purpose. The floor is made of solid sheet OSM, which is in effect a toughened plyboard. One nice touch is that the joists of the floor have been pressure treated which gives them excellent and long lasting protection against wet rot and decay. The use of a shed base kit, available as an optional extra, is another way to enhance the durability of the shed’s floor.
Treatment Requirements and Warranty
It was noticeable, by the colouration and smell of the timber, that this shed had been dip treated prior to transportation. This provides a good level of initial protection, which although not as long lasting as pressure treatment is still superior to brush application of a preservative. If further treatments are carried out by the shed owner on an annual basis, then it is covered by a 10 year anti rot guarantee. This is a generous gesture by Shed-Plus, although of course there will be costs and time involved in carrying out the yearly re-treatments.
Doors and Windows
We were very impressed with the double doors on this shed. They felt solid and secure during operation, and they give a very wide access point when fully opened. Because of this, the only limit to what can be moved in and out is the internal volume of the shed itself. We can easily imagine this shed being used for a bicycle store, or even to keep a motorcycle or scooter safe and dry.
Two rectangular windows are included with this shed. Although they have a fixed position adjacent to each other in the top centre of a side panel, the panels are interchangeable so the shed owner can decide which side he wants to use them on for maximum effectiveness. The glazing supplied is safety styrene with a thickness of 1.5mm, which gives enhanced toughness when compared to ordinary glass.
Security and Privacy
We would have liked to see a padlock or security system included as standard, as the double doors can attract attention of opportune criminals. Nevertheless, the doors come complete with a solid feeling hasp and staple, so the fitting of a padlock is simplicity itself.
The toughened nature of styrene glazing is also a deterrent, as it will take a concerted attempt to break it. The positioning of the windows just below the roofline is a good idea, as it allows sunlight in, and yet hides much of what is inside the shed from the view of passers by.
Customisation Options and Extras
We love nothing more than a well painted or stained shed, as not only does it enhance the aesthetic appeal it also protects the timbers from the aging effects of UV light. Whilst the timber is supplied unpainted we were pleased to see that harvest gold and dark brown stains are available as optional extras, and highly recommend the use of them.
A shed base kit is also available in the same dimensions as this shed. It involves self assembly but is very easy to put together, and shouldn’t add more than an hour to the overall installation time of the shed itself. Rising moisture can put your shed under strain, so a good quality base kit like this is always a wise purchase.
There are two padlock and security kits available, both including an integral alarm. These should be regarded as an essential purchase at less than £25 each, as just the sight of a sturdy padlock can be enough to deter many would be intruders.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
The quality of timber and OSB used is very good, especially when the pricing is concerned, but slightly thicker roofing felt would have made it even better.
Longevity Of Materials8.5/10
Dip treatment helps protect the shed in its first months exposed to rain and wind, but regular treatments will be required if the shed is still to look as good at the end of 10 years.
Two features of this shed help to enhance its storage capabilities: the apex roof, and the wide opening of the double doors.
Ease Of Installation8.5/10
With two fixed windows and large double doors as standard, we had expected the shed to take longer to construct than it actually did. Two people can expect to take around three hours to put this shed up.
Value For Money9.5/10
here is so much that this shed can be used for, and yet it costs not much more than two hundred pounds. That represents excellent value for money, even considering the recommended purchases of a padlock, base kit, and stain.
Final Thoughts: A shed should be much more than a simple storage facility, it should enhance the appearance of the garden as a whole, and that’s just what this shed does. The double doors and dual windows enhance the classic styling, and we were pleased to find that it not only looked good to the eye, it felt solid to the touch. The wide doors allow you to store all your garden tools in here, and maybe a bicycle or play essentials for the children too. Thanks to the apex roof and overlap design, you won’t have to worry about rain getting in, so it’s a shed that you’ll be happy to spend time in just looking out at the garden.
