This is one of the more solid, stable wooden storage sheds available on the market. Its solid tongue and groove floor gives you multiple usage options, including heavyweight storage or as a good size workshop. From the picture this shed looks pretty small, but it’s actually one of the most popular sized sheds sold in the UK. Its tall design is what most people love about this sheds design. It also comes with a very wide door and a taller than average door which makes it fantastic for storing tools and equipment such as rakes and fishing poles.
Roof and Floor
What’s fantastic about the Treetops Traditional range is that the roof and floor benefit from 12mm thick tongue and groove cladding. This guarantees an outstanding quality and adds super longevity benefits to the shed. The apex style is what really gives the building its extreme height and it also boasts great water and wind resistant qualities too. The felt covering could be better, but it’s easy and inexpensive to upgrade this.
The strength of the floor is brilliant and makes storing heavier machinery a lot more reassuring. Solid sheet more commonly used in wooden storage sheds is great for lightweight storage but will easily become damaged if you attempt to store anything remotely heavy. Not only is tongue and groove better at handling heavier equipment, but it is also more reassuring to walk over too.
Cladding, Frame and Treatment Requirements
You’ll find a lot of sheds benefit from 12mm Shiplap tongue and groove cladding, but very few of them are created with DEAL Redwood. This style of timber is used across the entire Treetops Traditional collection and it adds a very unique style that you won’t see with competitor sheds. It is also PAR finished and boasts a 44mm x 27mm thick frame. Shiplap is more durable, less prone to warp and more attractive than overlap. So if you’re looking for a shed that’s going to last and provide excellent weatherproof features then this is a great model to consider.
In terms of treatments, Shed Store do suggest using a high quality treatment within 6 weeks of putting it together. Annual treatments should then be applied. It’s also important to leave a small gap around the shed so you can treat the entire building.
Doors and Windows
On the picture you can only see two windows, but there are actually three included. Initially they come with a fixed design, though you can also upgrade to opening windows. Horticultural glass is used for the glazing which isn’t as safe as styrene, but it is thicker. What’s great about this model is that you can also opt to have no windows included. This is free and instead the building will be supplied fully boarded.
It is also possible to change the door. A single, thick braced door comes as standard, but a double door upgrade can be chosen instead. These open out to provide 4’ of entry space so if you plan on adding anything bulky to the shed, these doors would be a beneficial upgrade.
Security and Privacy
Unusually you will not have to upgrade the security of this shed. On your search for the perfect shed you’ll discover that the majority tend to come with either a button catch or a pad bolt. Neither of these features will actually lock the door. This means you end up having to spend more money to secure the building. With this one, it comes with a key operated lock. This is the highest quality lock you will find on any shed and it is one of the leading benefits of this particular model.
You do have total control over the privacy of the shed too. Even if you decide to keep the windows, you can install blinds or curtains to make sure nobody can see inside when you don’t want them to. Or for the most private design you can get rid of the windows completely.
Customisation Options and Extras
The signature feature of Treetops Traditional sheds is the customisation options provided. No other shed gives you as many customisation options as this high quality range. So what can you change? As mentioned earlier you can customise both the doors and the windows.
It isn’t easy to see, but there are 3 fixed windows on this shed. The customisation options give you the opportunity to change each window from a fixed to an opening design. Why would you want to do this? Well an opening window gives you two benefits. Firstly it makes the building more comfortable to use. Now as this is one of the medium sized models, it is possible to use it to work in. Being able to open the windows on a hot sunny day will provide you with a nice breeze to enhance your level of comfort. Secondly opening a window will supply fresh air into the shed, minimising its risk of damp. Although the cladding is solid and weather-resistant, if it becomes too stuffy inside the building, it could cause problems with mould.
Another option you have is to get rid of the windows entirely. A windowless design would better suit those looking to store valuable machinery and equipment. It will also give the shed a more solid look. It is also worth noting that this customisation option is actually free, whereas each opening window will cost a little extra. You can also upgrade to double doors. This will give you the obvious wider access benefit, as well as alter the appearance of the shed.
Along with the customisation options, you can also buy floor bearers which will protect the floor from rot. These wooden bearers lift the shed’s floor off the ground allowing air to ventilate the floor and eliminate moisture.
Finally a garden building installation service is offered, as it is with all of the Treetops Traditional sheds. However, we honestly don’t think this is needed due to how easy it is to self-assemble. It really depends upon which customisation options you are going for. If you’re looking at installing three opening windows and double doors for example, the installation service could be more useful.
This shed doesn’t just have a solid, high quality look, it also comes with a wide range of benefits. Overall it boasts superb quality that is really hard to beat.
Longevity Of materials
There isn’t a lot this shed cannot withstand. It is built to last at least a decade, though with annual treatments it will likely go way beyond that.
This is a medium size model in the Treetops Traditional Standard shed range so it does give you a lot of storage space to work with.
Ease of installation
There have been one or two complaints that the instructions provided are a little outdated. However, discarding that most people find this really simple to assemble.
This shed really does have it all. Great security, durability, customised privacy and a nice spacious interior. Therefore whilst the cost may be slightly higher than your average 8’x6’ shed, the value for money given with this model is far superior.
Final Thoughts: When only the best will do, this 8x6 Traditional Standard Apex Shed is a brilliant contender. It boasts a superior quality design and offers a fantastic range of customisable options. Its higher cost compared to its competitors highlights the exceptional quality you will receive. It has a very sturdy, durable build and also benefits from fantastic built in security. The key operated lock is a unique feature that makes this shed perfect for storing anything valuable. With annual treatments, this building is guaranteed to withstand anything the UK weather has to throw at it. We do recommend this model and other sizes are also available in the collection.
