Though this wooden Windsor storage shed has a very traditional looking design, it comes with the added benefit of Shiplap tongue and groove cladding. This is a fantastic addition considering its affordable cost. Known for its exemplary weatherproof benefits, this cladding type is the strongest and the longest lasting cladding used on wooden sheds.
The large, wide door is the main feature of this model. It is fully hinged for rigidity and has a notably wider design than most competitor sheds. This makes it incredibly convenient, as well as comfortable to use. It also benefits from an extra spacious height thanks to the popular apex roof.
There are several variations of this building and this model comes with two styrene glazed windows. They can be positioned at either side of the shed, allowing you to choose the most convenient and private placement.
A pad bolt is attached to the door to keep it closed even in harsh weather. Keep in mind that it will not keep the door locked however so it is advisable to buy a padlock separately.
If you’re searching for a shed that will hold a lot of equipment and tools and which will really stand up to the unpredictable British weather, this large door Windsor shed is the perfect choice.

Let's Take a Closer Look...
Building Type and Measurements
Ridge height – 6’6”
Eaves height – 5’1”
Door height – 5’5”
Door width – 2’10”
Depth including overhang – 7’11”
Width including overhang – 6’3”
This large storage shed is part of the great Windsor range and it offers really spacious measurements. The double doors are created with an ultra-wide design to make storing bulky equipment and awkward shaped tools a breeze. Though advertised as an 8’ x 6’ building, in depth it measures 7’11” and in width 6’3”. It is important to make note of these exact measurements so you can see whether there is enough space to assemble the shed. Though this size building is often purchased as a small workshop, we would point out that if you plan on using this for that purpose you will need to strengthen the floor. It is also worth pointing out that the shed in the picture is the 7’10” x 5’10” model, not the 8’ x 6’.
Roof and Floor
The one thing we feel a little let down by with this shed is the materials used within its interior. From the outside, it has an impeccable, tough design. Then when you open the door you are greeted with a very rough, cheap looking solid sheet floor. Though Shed Store have pressure treated the floor joists, it is still a pretty weak construction when you compare it to tongue and groove. This basically means you could find it challenging to store heavier tools and gardening equipment.
The solid sheet board used to create the apex roof isn’t as much of a problem. Typically we find that this is plenty strong enough to withstand even heavy downpours and high winds. We also like that it benefits from an apex roof. This gives the shed a very tall, spacious interior which makes it not only comfortable to move around in, but also more practical to store tall equipment.
Cladding, Frame and Treatment Requirements
Constructed with 12mm Shiplap exterior cladding, this shed is a lot more durable and weatherproof than the cheaper overlap clad buildings. Shiplap has both visually pleasing and weather resistant qualities and it is more commonly used on higher-end sheds. Therefore it’s pleasantly surprising to see it used on one with such a low, affordable price tag.
Interlocking, draught proof tongue and groove ensures the panels fit together quickly and securely. What’s great about this style of cladding is it also leaves a very small expansion gap. This stops any seasonal changes from causing issues with structural stability. Though Shiplap cladding is less likely to be affected by moisture and temperature changes than any other type. A 27mm x 32mm frame keeps the shed secure and is slightly more durable than the standard framing found in most wooden sheds.
Once installed, the shed should be given a coat of treatment. It has been professionally basecoat treated by the manufacturer, but this doesn’t offer long-term protection. A treatment after assembly and then each year throughout the shed’s life is needed to keep it protected against harsh weather conditions. Shed Store supply a free 5L tub of treatment with this building so that adds to its cost saving benefits.
Doors and Windows
You would think that because this shed comes with a single door, it would limit the amount of access provided in comparison to double doors. However, that really isn’t the case. It has been given a much wider design than most standard doors so the amount of space to get in and out is fantastic. No matter what you need to store, getting it in and out of the shed won’t pose any problems. It isn’t braced, but it is strongly hinged so sagging isn’t an issue you will need to address.
Two shatterproof styrene windows are placed on the side of the building. Which side you include them on is entirely up to you. The shed has interchangeable sides so you can place them on the left or the right.
Security and Privacy
In terms of security, there is a pad bolt added to the doors. This makes them pad-lockable. However, it is important to note that a padlock doesn’t actually comes with the shed. The cladding makes it more secure than an overlap building and the fact that the windows are fixed and shatterproof also makes them tougher to break through. The only issue you may have with the windows is that they don’t provide a lot of privacy. You could be creative and add some type of covering behind them however, such as a blind.
Customisation Options and Extras
Some of the customisation options and extras available are a little more useful than others. The Portabase timber base kit is a good example. If you don’t have a concrete, level base to install the shed, this wooden base is a fantastic option. One of the highest quality bases on the market, it features ground spikes which go deep into the ground, anchoring the base to ensure it provides a very stable build. A complimentary extra to this base kit is the base installation service. We don’t really feel you need this as the base itself is easy to put together.
There are four treatments available too. Each comes in a different shade, allowing you to customise the look and style of the building. For a more sophisticated look, we recommend the dark brown treatment. However, if you’re looking for something that will set your shed apart, why not opt for the colourful Ivy Green? All have been manufactured to be environmentally safe and will not harm plants or pets.
Whilst the shed comes with all fittings required, you will still need tools to assemble it. Therefore the DIY Assembly Assistance Tool Kit is worth considering. Featuring all kinds of useful, high quality tools, this is something you can use for many years.
Finally if you want to really save yourself time and stress, the Garden Building Installation Service could be just what you need. Let somebody else do all of the hard work and then simply enjoy your new shed. This service will not include treatment application or base assembly.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
Like so many of the Windsor sheds, this one offers a fantastic quality overall, but the interior is a little disappointing. We’d have liked to have seen tongue and groove construction throughout.
Longevity Of materials8/10
Whilst the quality of materials varies, the exterior of the building is impeccable. This means it has a much longer lasting design than the more inferior overlap models.
Most people should find this shed offers more than enough space. It’s also advantageous that you can add hooks to the walls or shelving.
Ease of installation8/10
The assembly of this shed is straightforward, though you may need to work a little harder to get some parts to go where they are supposed to. It should only take around 2-3 hours to put together too which is great for this size shed.
Value for money9/10
Despite the fact we feel some things could be improved, overall this medium size shed offers good value for money. It’s built to last and any improvements you do decide to make aren’t going to be costly.
Final Thoughts: There are a lot of traditional style sheds out there, but the Windsor Shiplap Large Door Garden Shed is one of the more stand out models. Many manufacturers choose to keep costs low with this style of building so they use overlap cladding. As this one is constructed from Shiplap, it guarantees you a much longer lasting design. The wide door is an incredible feature, making it very easy to store a wide range of equipment. It is a good quality shed with a lot of redeeming features. All in all we would recommend it if you’re looking for a good value, simple storage solution.
