One of the most incredible looking sheds in the whole, National Trust line is what we are taking a gander at today and while your eyes may first of all glance to the large price tag, this Blickling Shed is really amazing. With its tremendous, corrugated roof (that is old, classic English style by the way), Georgian style windows and of course that very “special” log store which is located on the side, something that has caused us to be scratching our heads for the last couple of hours trying to figure out when the last time we saw one of these was!
The National Trust line of sheds from Crane is all about nostalgia. When you see a shed, especially the Blickling Shed, you really cannot help, but get a smile on your face as you realise that the shed was designed to look like a shed from some East Anglian garden or allotment from many years ago. This is not just a shed to store your items. This is a shed that you buy because you want to have a nice big feature in your garden that is going to make people stop, stare and ask you a lot of questions
IMPORTANT – Why we recommend buying this product from the National Trust over other sites.

Let's Take a Closer Look...
30-day no quibble returns guarantee = The National Trust blow this out of the water by offering what we at WhatShed believe is the best and safest customer guarantee on offer when buying a garden building online. They offer a “No quibble 30-day returns guarantee means that if for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase, you can return it to us in its original condition within 30 days of the date you received the item, and we will issue a full refund for the price you paid for the item.”
Item damaged in transit = We commonly see the complaint with other retailers that the customers garden building gets damaged in transit. Most other company seem to do everything they can to get out of helping you if this happens. The real stand out service that the National Trust offers goes way beyond what we have seen from any other merchant. They say “If the item was damaged in transit. If you take delivery of a National Trust Online Shop package and the contents have been damaged in transit, you can return the item(s) to us within 30 days of receipt for exchange.” That is an outstanding commitment to customer service and we wish more retailers in this sector could boast the same levels of commitment.
In short unlike some other merchants we have reviews we feed 100% confident with the way the National Trust is handling its customers in the event they run into a problem. Time and again we see reports of products getting damaged in transit. We strongly feel that the National Trusts no quibble 30-day returns guarantee means that if for any reason you have with your purchase you are in safe hands. We only wish some of the other retailers would offer the same outstanding level of protection and peace of mind that the National Trust are giving customers. To see the full National Trust returns policy follow this link, we are sure that you will agree they are the #1 choice when it comes to buying your Crain garden building from.

Ok folks we know that most of the time you look at photos of this shed, you will be thinking how cool that log store looks and thinking of what you can use it for! And while we will admit right now that this is a shed that makes such a strong first impression that we think you should keep on reading to see if this is the right shed for you garden.
Shed Type And Roof Size
This is a nice large shed and you really do have just a ton of storage space to make use of inside here. When it comes to the width of the shed you have 7 feet 8 inches of space. The length is 9 feet 8 inches which when you crunch the numbers means, you have plenty of space. The Blickling Shed is a nice height offering you 6 feet 2 inches at the eave and at the ridge you have an incredible 8 feet 1 inch which is great in two ways. First of all it gives you a lot of room to walk around in the shed without having to be hunched over all the time, but it is also just under the height that requires you to get planning permission which we think was very nice work from the guys at Crane. These specs that we have just told you are impressive enough…….. but of course the main feature of this shed is that log store on the side. The log store looks great and makes this a real standout shed, but it also offers you an extra 2 x 5 area of space to store a few more things.
As far as the roof goes, Crane are using a corrugated apex roof. We love apex roofs here as they keep the buckets and buckets (maybe pools and pools is a better term?) of water that will fall on it during the year out of your shed. The corrugated roof may be one of the reasons that the price is on the high side, but it really does look fantastic and is essential to the overall design of the shed and giving it that throwback look to old classic sheds. To make sure that the corrugated roof is well supported, underneath we have tongue and groove boards which are 16 x 125 mm.
Cladding Frame And Floor
When you are cool like we are……. Or kind of geeky one of the first things you look at when reviewing a shed is the cladding. Now at first we were a little unsure of Crane’s decision to use sawn cladding, but it actually works incredibly well and actually without it they would not have managed this classic English look that they have achieved. If you are worried that the flat sawn board cladding will be on the weak side….. then do not as this is made from Scandinavian Redwood and when we say that this wood is strong….. we mean really strong! This type of cladding is not used as much these days so it does give the shed a look you do not see all that often these days.
Before we even knew the dimensions of the frame, we were more than confident this would be a shed that would be just incredible strong and sturdy thanks to that Scandinavian Redwood.
Actually they use that exact same wood for the frame! At 38 x 50 mm, you will have no worries about the shed being flimsy or not being able to take the kids banging on it! You can have the best cladding in the world, but if it is on a weak frame then at some point down the line you are going to have some issues. We feel that the size of the frame and the wood it is made from will ensure, you will have years and years of this shed standing strong!
We think (of the top of our heads) that Crane have used the same flooring as they do roofing boards for their whole line of National Trust sheds. This is that same 16 x 125 tongue and groove boarding we were talking about that is under the corrugated roof. These are some nice boards and along with the 38 x 50 floor joists that they are sitting on give you a very solid foundation. We hate walking in a big shed that looks as strong as an ox from the outside only to stand on floor boards that are weak and bouncy, but that is sure as heck not the case here.
Treatment And Warranty
The Blickling Shed comes with Cranes two year “general wear and tear” warranty. To be honest this is a standard warranty that you get with many sheds and we feel that it is fair. Crane will come and make repairs or replace something that may have gone wrong with your shed. But they will only do this if they feel the “fault” or damage is from general wear and tear. So the shed is not covered if you put a shovel through it, try to put a shelf up and damage a wall or any other kind of accidental damage.
Doors And Windows
Crane use a very good sized door offering you, 5 feet 9 inches in height and 2 feet 3 inches in width. You should be able to get what you need in here without having to much trouble, stress or swearing when something won’t fit! To keep the door nice and secure we have some great looking, black strap hinges that just pop, no matter what colour your shed is. To compliment these we have a nice black door handle and mortise lock. Of course these are all very well made and practical, but they also help give the shed its unique look.
The windows of the National Trust line of sheds are a signature feature of this line. They are these very nice, Georgian style windows that are made with toughened 4 mm glass….. real glass we might add, no cheap plastic windows here. The window is pretty much, slap bang in the middle of the shed in between the log store and the door and it just looks fantastic.
Security And Privacy
Those black strap door hinges may be easy on the eye, but they are also very strong and will make sure that your door stays nice and secure for years. We have seen sheds that after just a few months of use, see the doors starting to hang a little bit because of cheap hinges. Coming with a mortise lock as standard is nice and will let you lock all your items away after a long, hard, but fun day of gardening.
The window is right in the middle of the shed so if you do not want people to be able to look and see what you have inside then you may want to go and buy a curtain to put in there. We think the window looks great as it is, but we understand some people do like their privacy.
Crane offer six different colours for all their sheds so you have a good choice here when it comes to the colour of your shed. We love the six choices that you have as we feel there really is a colour for everyone. You have colours like Wades Lantern which is more like your “standard” and safe kind of “wood” colour. But if you want to maybe have a bit more of a “fun” looking shed then they have Painters Grey…… which despite the grey in the name has more of a blue tint to it.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
We really feel that with the corrugated roof, Scandinavian Redwood used and the toughened glass window that no one could have a bad word to say about the quality of this shed.
Longevity of Materials7/10
The Blickling shed comes in four sizes and with each and every size that his shed comes with we are a little bit worried about the log store being open to the elements. So as good as the materials are that log store does give us a little bit of concern of how it will hold up during a harsh winter.
8 x 10 is a very good size for a shed and more than enough for what the average person will need. What makes The Blickling Shed extra special though is that extra storage space you get with the log store which by the way we must say, you will not get arrested for storing things other than wood in there!
Ease of Installation10/10
Yes that is right we give this section here full marks and that is because, Crane do all the installation of the shed for you. This is great as it means the shed gets built properly and that you can avoid hitting your thumb with a hammer.
Value for Money7.5/10
Look we know that this is an expensive shed and that you can get a shed offering a similar amount of space for far less……… but, wow is this a great looking shed! It is more than just a storage space it is meant to be an actual feature of your garden and while expensive it does certainly stand out more than a regular “cheaper” shed would.
Final Thoughts: The Crane National Trust, Blickling Shed is one of the best looking sheds in this whole line! It really is a stand out piece and would make for a great conversation piece and of course it offers just an incredible amount of storage space. But this is a shed that will set you back, £2,795.00 which is a lot of money! But we feel if you want a shed that is more than just a space for storage that this is a shed that will certainly make any garden it is in look better.
