Crane have been really blowing our socks off with their line of National Trust sheds. Inspired from the kinds of sheds that you would find in old, East Anglian gardens in years gone past. The Felbrigg Shed is one of the more “toned down” sheds in this line, but we feel this does make it stand out from the others. With a corrugated roof, extra tough, real glass window and just a very “no messing around” type of style. This is a shed that you may just look past the first time you see it, but once you take a closer look, you will start to appreciate the craftsmanship and selection of materials such as the decision to use sawn board cladding, that went into creating this great shed.
While this is a shed that may not initially stand out in a Police lineup of National Trust sheds (why they would be in a Police lineup we have no idea, but just go with it) we still feel you get all the “benefits” that the other sheds in this line have and if you do not have a lot of space in your garden, but want a high quality, top of the line shed then Febrigg may be just what you are looking for.
IMPORTANT – Why we recommend buying this product from the National Trust over other sites.

Item damaged in transit =We commonly see the complaint with other retailers that the customers garden building gets damaged in transit. Most other company seem to do everything they can to get out of helping you if this happens. The real stand out service that the National Trust offers goes way beyond what we have seen from any other merchant. They say “If the item was damaged in transit. If you take delivery of a National Trust Online Shop package and the contents have been damaged in transit, you can return the item(s) to us within 30 days of receipt for exchange.” That is an outstanding commitment to customer service and we wish more retailers in this sector could boast the same levels of commitment.
In short unlike some other merchants we have reviews we feed 100% confident with the way the National Trust is handling its customers in the event they run into a problem. Time and again we see reports of products getting damaged in transit. We strongly feel that the National Trusts no quibble 30-day returns guarantee means that if for any reason you have with your purchase you are in safe hands. Dropping over a thousand pounds on a 6 x 8 shed is something that we feel is a bit of a hard sell. So that is why we are going to roll our sleeves up and have a proper good look over this shed and see if this is going to be not only ideal for storing your belongings, but also look good doing it.
Shed Type And Roof Size
This is what we like to call a compact shed and the type of shed for you folks who do not have a huge amount of space in your garden. The width of the shed is 5 feet 9 inches, length comes in at a not too shabby, 7 feet 8 inches. So as far as room goes on the floor while not huge, you do have a decent amount of space here. Height is 6 feet 2 inches at the eave which we feel is great as most people will not have to get all hunched over to move around in there. We feel that this is the type of shed where you can really maximise your space with some shelving on the walls (more on this down below) which we feel is a pretty good idea if you really want to get the most out of the shed.
We……… love the roof on this shed!!! If there is one feature on this shed that really gives it that classic, old school, throwback look of old English sheds it is the corrugated roof. Now granted this of course does make the price shoot up, but the effect it has on the shed is just immense and we think it just really brings the shed to life. 16 x 125 mm tongue and groove boarding is what Crane are using to hold the corrugated roof up and it also offers an extra layer of protection against our “fantastic” British weather.
Cladding, Frame And Floor
The cladding that is used on these, National Trust sheds is very interesting and a huge part of their charm. Crane are using, vertically cut, sawn board cladding which may not sound “exciting” or “exotic” like shiplap cladding or something else we take for granted these days, but boy does this cladding do a great job in keeping the rain out and it also just has such a distinctive look to it. Using 16 x 38 mm cladding made from Scandinavian Redwood, you have one very tough shed here. We also feel this cladding makes putting some shelves up inside the shed a great idea which will also give you a bit more storage space.
Crane use the same kind of Scandinavian Redwood for the frame of the shed. At 38 x 50 mm thick this framing is incredibly tough and makes sure that once built, the Felbrigg Shed will not being going anywhere! You can give the shed a good smack and it won’t buckle…… you will just have a sore hand and the knowledge that you have one very strong shed. We cannot stress enough how much we love the frame of this shed and we are sure that years after this has been built after harsh winter after harsh winter that it will still be standing there just as strong as the day it was built.
The 16 x 125 mm tongue and groove boarding which is used to keep the corrugated roof up and looking amazing is what is used for the flooring of the shed. Nothing makes us say “ugh” more than when we walk into a nice looking shed and feel a cheap and bouncy floor underneath. This tongue and groove boarding slots together so well that it really does give you a strong and stable floor. While the boarding that is used is fantastic, we have to mention that the floor joists which like everything else are made from that Scandinavian Redwood greatly aid the flooring of the shed. With a floor this strong you will have no problems storing your heavy items inside.
Treatment Requirement And Warranty
Crane take great pride in their sheds and as they are the ones who build the shed for you, you should not have any problems, but if there is some kind of “issue” with the shed and it is not caused by accidental damage then they will come and fix the problem. One thing that can void your warranty is if you insist they build the shed in a part of your garden that they say is not suitable for the shed.
Doors And Windows
We know better than anyone how annoying, frustrating……. And pure rage inducing it can be trying to get something a shed that has a tiny door like it has been built for a Hobbit from Lord Of The Rings. The door here is a decent enough size at 5 feet 9 inches in height and 2 feet 3 inches in width. So unless you are planning on storing a set of collector edition surf boards in there, you will have no issues. We think people who plan on just keeping a mower, gardening tools and a few other items will have no problems getting in and out of the shed. As practical as the door is with the use of these black strap hinges, black door handle and black mortise lock, you have a door that is also very nice looking.
The Georgian window really does spring out at you with its lovely made frame and that 4 mm toughened glass. We just love how Crane are using proper glass here and not some cheap substitute. This is really high quality glass so if even after you have told them no 20 times, the kids still kick a ball of the shed the glass will be able to take it!
Security And Privacy
With its Scandinavian Redwood and compact size the Felbrigg Shed does have a “tank” like look to it. What we mean by this is that it is very secure and strong. Coming with a good mortise lock to keep your things kept away safe and those door hinges that will keep the door in position for years. No one is getting in the shed who you do not want to! The window we know for some may be an issue as they will not want people seeing what they have in their shed, but a curtain, blinds or some other kind of feature can take care of this for you. We personally think it would be a shame to cover these lovely windows though.
While Crane are not able to paint your shed with the crest of your favourite football team. They do offer six unique colours for you to pick from. Terrace Green, Wades Lantern, Dome Ochre, Painters Grey, Earls Grey and lastly, Disraeli Green.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
The somewhat small stature of this shed with the Scandinavian Redwood, good floor boards, sturdy frame and just the way the shed is put together make this one very high quality shed. Crane do not skimp when it comes to materials……. But this of course is reflected in the price.
Longevity of Materials9/10
Crane use just high quality materials all throughout this shed, corrugated roof, sawn board cladding, extra tough glass and it will be built by Crane to ensure it will last as long as possible.
Look 6 x 8 is not a huge amount of space, but it is up to you to really maximise this space by storing things properly or perhaps using shelving. We have to tell you that this is one of the smallest sheds in this line.
Ease of Installation10/10
Crane will come to your house and build this shed for you! You really cannot complain with this. So just kick back with your favourite drink and let them take care of everything. Plus, you will know for sure that the shed will be built properly…… not that we are questioning your ability when it comes to DIY.
Value for Money5/10
£1,795.00 for a 6 x 8 shed is certainly not the best deal out there. We have seen sheds for over a grand less that offer tons more space! We feel that if Crane knocked a few hundred pounds (or even more!) off the price then this really would be a nice compact shed.
Final Thoughts: The Felbrigg Shed is made from exceptional materials that will last you for many, many years. the shed will be well built by Crane themselves and it is also very nice to look at…… but this shed is £1,795.00 and that is a lot of money for a shed of this size. So unless you simply must have a shed from this line and you do not have the space for one of the larger models we would certainly advise you to look around our site before you spend this kind of money and a 6 x 8 shed.
